Cleveland Ave is the worst
That’s it really. Getting down it from Capitol Trail to New London in the afternoon sucks. Sometimes it’s a big clusterf trying to turn on it. If I had known how bad it would be I might have moved to the other side of town.

If you're coming from 273/95 the problem is there isn't really another way to go so everyone has to go down Cleveland Ave. Some asshole put a college and a creek in the way.

It will never happen now, but there was a time (maybe 60 years ago) when they were considering a bypass that would have come across from where Old Papermill Rd is into Fairfield Crest. I'm not old enough to remember that, but my Grandparents and Dad lived in Fairfield Crest when they built the development in the early 1960's.

I blame the students, the people that live over there and the people that commute through. Once we get rid of those, Cleveland Ave will be great again.

There's no way around Cleveland Avenue if you come from 72/2 or 273 and need to continue north on 273 or go north on New London Rd. Since Main and Delaware Ave are one-ways, Cleveland is it for crossing Newark.
There must be a way to reduce traffic on Cleveland. What if Main was two way and there was no on-street parking? Build a parking garage behind CVS. Am I dreaming?

You can go to the end of Main and turn right at the end, just past Deer Park.

two way sounds like a recipe for disaster

Main Street was two-way for decades. I think it's fine as-is, with Main Street being two lanes west and Delaware Avenue being two lanes east. There aren't many ways to cross Newark and the fire station is right in the middle so we need to prioritize their access.

Yeah, Newark isn't the same town it was when it was two way though, the university is bigger, and there's an influx of new housing. Has the fire station said they've had issues?

People already keep mowing down students on Main Street. I'd prefer if they made the whole thing pedestrian only.

Your dream sounds like a nightmare. If anything, main should be a pedestrian mall for that portion. Getting rid of the street parking for more traffic would harm foot traffic and businesses along it.

IT WAS BETTER WHEN IT WAS STILL 2 LANES IN EACH DIRECTION!
Seriously who gets rid of lane? We add lanes we don't remove lanes what is this!

They had to remove a lane to help reduce accidents. People insist on driving like maniacs, and so there have to be more and more restrictions.

We shouldn't punish everyone and cut the throughput in half because of the actions of a few.

That’s how society function sadly.

But it doesn't have to function that way. Put speed cameras in, that will take care of the problem after a while.

You won’t find an argument from me about traffic cameras (speed, red light, others…..).
That said, society's rules are almost always dictated by those least capable of following them. Moving forward as a group is typically less than ideal for those of us who could manage fine without a number of existing rules.

Pretty sure they added a bike lane here a few years ago which has made the traffic a little worse.
I think it’s mostly just the town growing though which isn’t bad

Townies know this but you know for the future. Cleveland Ave has too much stuff shoved over there.
