POTUS Comes to Newark

Post image
5 Upvotes

Delaware theater fans, if you’re looking for something fun to do in October, I wanted to put this on your radar!
Chapel Street Players in Newark is opening its 92nd season with POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive, running October 2–10.

If you’re not familiar with the show, it’s a fast-paced, very adult political farce about seven women desperately trying to keep the President (who is never actually seen onstage) from turning one disastrous day at the White House into a complete catastrophe.

The play premiered on Broadway in 2022 with a cast that included Vanessa Williams, Rachel Dratch and Lea DeLaria.

Full disclosure: I’m involved with the production, so I’m obviously a little biased, but this cast has been working incredibly hard, and it’s shaping up to be a wild and really fun night of theater.

And despite the title and setting, this isn’t a show about Democrats vs. Republicans or the current political moment. It’s a satire about the chaos happening behind the scenes while seven extremely capable women try to keep everything from falling apart.

Say NO to a huge dam in WCCSP

I'm a longtime volunteer in White Clay Creek SP and you may have passed me trimming back brush or draining muddy areas to keep the trails nice. I do this because the park is a treasure and I want to do my part to preserve it. If you also care about White Clay Creek State Park, or just don't want your tax money wasted on someone's personal pet project, listen up.

A handful of politically connected men have managed to secure $6 million of your taxes to build a huge dam and artificial pond in White Clay Creek SP. The project is being sold as a "restoration" of the original DuPont era "big pond" across the road from Paper Mill Park but it's NOT en environmental project. That original artificial pond was only a foot deep and was buit to attract waterfowl for hunting. When its small dam failed in 2000 the pond reverted back to meadow, which was deemed best for the ecology by DNREC. What's being rammed through now though is a MUCH larger dam and deeper artificial pond than was ever on the property.

Rebuilding the dam was never included in the park's Master Plan because it was deemed too expensive, impractical and unnecessary. Construction would close a section of the park for over a year while heavy equipment removes a significant number of trees. DNREC has been working to remove legacy dams and replant trees so this is a huge step backwards. It would impact the water quality of Middle Run Creek and could completely stop the flow of the creek while filling the pond. The park's major user groups (Friends of WCCSP and Trail Spinners) are strongly opposed to this project. DNREC's hands are tied because the money was signed into law in Dover but do not have the manpower or budget to support such a dam in the future. The ongoing expense would come out of the park's already stretched budget and mean cuts to other park programs and services (or increased fees). In short, aside from the people pulling political strings to get that money, NOBODY wants this dam and the park can't afford to take care of it.

This new pond is so large that the Army Corps of Engineers has to permit the project, and this is one of our last chances to stop this project and reallocate the remainder of the funds to the projects DNREC has prioritized, such as trail maintenance, improvements to parking lots and restrooms, and other much needed improvements that would positively impact all park users.

HOW YOU CAN HELP: Voice your opposition to that permit here: https://rrs.usace.army.mil/rrs/public-notices?state=DE Find notice NAP-2025-00429-85 and use the comment link on that page. Deadline for feedback is Wednesday, September 9th, so time is short! I know for a fact that this feedback is being closely monitored and it will make a difference so please voice your opposition to this foolish and wasteful plan.

Help with “Dolly Parton Day” at daycare…

My son’s preschool is having a Dolly Parton Day at school on Friday & I’d love to dress my son to fit the theme. I’m not even sure what that would look like- a button up, jeans & cowboy boots I suppose?

Does anyone have any of these items in a 4T-5t (clothing) or 11c (shoes) that they’d be willing to sell? I’d be happy to have them!

Or, does anyone know where I can get these items for less than the cost of my son’s NICU stay? It seems the “cowboy” look is quite pricey 😂

Thanks in advance!

Hi, this little guy was adopted and he escaped while getting him out of the car at his new home. He is very afraid and will run. If you can get a pic or provide any details of a sighting we can get the incredible team of Good Boy Dog Recovery out there to get him. Thank you!

Giving away 2x Newark High polos

Post image
4 Upvotes

Free to anyone who wants them, I have two Newark HS polos in size M. The black/yellow shirt is an old marching band parade shirt but only says Newark Yellowjackets so it can be worn for other events. The gray shirt says Newark High Band. They're a little wrinkly from storage but are otherwise in good condition. I'd hate to drop them off at Goodwill and have them just get thrown away.

Red light cameras flashing way too often?

Nearly every time I am at the kirkwood hwy/polly drummond hill intersection (like where BP dunkin is) i notice the cameras on each corner flash multiple times as if they are catching people running the light but 90+% of the time it doesn’t look like anyone is running anything. Are they just extremely sensitive? I’m sure there are other red light cameras like that as well that’s just the intersection i’ve noticed it most on since the cameras are huge on all 4 corners.

DEFLOCK - Keep Flock out of Newark!

Flock has steadily been encroaching their reach into Delaware, and more specifically, Newark.

Flock cameras are incredibly faulty, and have been repeatedly misused by those in power to harm our communities.

While it may seem inconsequential, PLEASE sign the attached petitions. While not the most effective form of activism, showcasing that you disagree with Flock policies can help appeal to the city of Newark to hopefully get these things taken down.

Please sign or share this if you can!

Subletting apartment interest!

Hi all, reaching out to see if anyone would be interested in leasing a room in One Easton. I already signed the lease but some circumstances came up and I’m not able to move in there anymore. The cost is 1275 a month for a one bedroom, and I would be willing to cover the 50 a month for a parking pass or split utilities with you.
The complex itself comes with a lot of amenities, such as a big 24/7 gym, an outdoor patio area, and quiet study rooms for students.
Please DM me if you are interested in leasing or learning more. Thank you!

For anyone looking for a gym in the area!

If anyone is looking to either start a new fitness journey, or continue their current one, I wanted to throw Hardbat Athletics out there as a great option.

We are a local, small gym, definitely a little different from a typical big-box gym. We work with all ages , but most of our members are busy adults (most of them parents), who want to get stronger and healthier, without having to do it all on their own.

We also work with beginners! No experience required :)

Obviously, I’m biased because I work at the gym , but if anyone is looking for a place to train and has any questions about us, feel free to ask me :)

Donations of old pillows?

Anyone know of places in the Newark, Elkton, Bear area that accept old pillow donations? I heard animal shelters or rescue centers might but not sure. Similar question about old blankets or sheets that are torn or significantly worn down. Any recommendations? Thanks.
