Discussion OP-XY Firmware 1.2.0 and IPAD/AUM
I can't stop crying tears of joy. Somehow, with the new firmware, it is now possible to do what I was wishing for the OPXY for years. I can connect the OPXY to my iPad by USBC, stream every single track into AUM, add effects and stuff, and monitor it with my earplugs plugged into the OPXY without feedback. Recording the whole thing on the ipad also works
I am so happy!

jealous of the OP-XY users today. I told myself I’d stick to the Z unless it got multitrack USB out, guess I’m gonna have to save up!!!
I also use AUM, and this workflow is indeed the dream!!!

Of course i can't peek into your wallet but for me the better keys and screen are already so worth the XY over the Z. That's before all the new features and synth engines.

I rarely use the synths on the Z, just my own (z formatted) multisamples - which is another reason why the XY would work well, proper multisampling and all. The sound in general is just better from the XY, not sure why but it must just have better DACs or something. Multitracked, the Z is fine in a mix, but I don’t find kicks are great unless they’re low mid range.
As for the build, and the screen: I still prefer a device without a screen, to be honest. I know why the XY needs it, and also how projects work in it. It’s a better workflow, but imo, I still think I’d prefer how the Z works, in general it has to be faster in some ways. I also put my Z in a custom leather slip case (or sometimes no case at all) and throw it in my bag, never worry about it…the XY I’d end up wanting to baby it.
But eventually I’ll have to get an XY, as again, it truly does just sound better and the roadmap looks great for what it could become.

Be patient and watch eBay. I set myself a limit of £1000 and ignored everything above it, until I saw one that was £1079. I considered that close enough and bought it. It's in perfect condition and was a fucking bargain!
Be patient, friend. They are out there!

I FEEL THE EXCITEMENT YOU'RE EXUDING... that's awesome man. I didn't think about tracking out into the iPad ... a lot of experimenting to do but this update is super exciting so far. I am loving the drum synth myself

I’ve been playing with new usb-c multi out. Annoying to me it’s 8 mono tracks out. All my xy tracks are in stereo. Oh well, need at least 2 recording passes.

The can be configured as 4 stereo. Just change it from “tracks” in the USB menu.

Anyone measure latency yet?
Send a combo of out as USB and multitrack audio AND audio out over tradition 1/8” jack?

But each single track is Mono, right?

no it can be stereo. There are custom configurations you can save. BUT I'm getting lots of bugs.

But not all 8 tracks at the same time on individual channels. the "tracks" preset in this menu outputs each track as mono. If you want individual outs in stereo, you're limited to 4 tracks, just like op1f, although op1f offers 10out as well, which includes master out on channel 1 and 2 (or was it 9 and 10? you get the point)
While being incredibly useful none the less, in typical TE fashion this multi out implementation is limited and not exactly what people dreamed of.

Sadly even with just the basic stereo mix I get a ton of cpu maxing out and audio dropping for the same composition that plays just fine with the previous firmware. I ended up downgrading.

so with 2ch default mode more cpu is used?.. come on, TE...

Yes exactly. Same 2 channel song on the new firmware clips the cpu. I downgraded to the old firmware and it plays fine.

Thanks for the notice, i downgraded to 1.1.33+1 (apprently special version with new bootloader) so I'm hoping to have all the cpu back :D – hopefully they'll fix it soon.

yep, and I seem to be the only one who's complaining 😜

No. They’re configurable in the USB menu. Took me a minute to figure out, but confirmed stereo sending into iPad / AUM.

Can someone please confirm how the routing works? Are the tracks sent over USB pre-send fx? If so, is it possible to use audio over usb as per-track insert effect loop, ie does usb send each processed audio track back into the op-xy mixer?

I’m still trying to work out the details on this, but here is what I know from testing tonight:
- AUM works great with all 8 channels
- You can do 4 stereo channels or any mix of stereo mono / bus configurations, etc in the usb settings
- USB sends are post fader (this makes no sense, IMO)
- You can route usb audio from AUM back into the Aux track like normal
So, in effect yes, you can use AUM (or whatever) as an effects loop. The return comes back as a single stereo channel (into aux track).
What I can’t figure out is how to remove the dry signal from the main mix (main output)… Not a huge deal for some FX loops (reverb, etc), but critical if, for example, you wanted to do a looper in AUM or even just EQ a track.

that's really a bummer. a simple 'local off' like having one more line in the audio router matrix for headphones would cure that

Someone figured out how to change the main mix send volume. Explained here: https://youtu.be/umdKg2IQwXw?t=1220&is=FeCzvSxUuoOAtoj7

I’d love a video showing what you mean. Just because I’m a visual person and awful at understanding signal chain without a visual

i know what you mean, just had the same thought with the ipad rec over aum or loopy pro... trying now and its a gem.... great drum synth too btw

I just really don't get it. Why is TE not giving us local monitoring options on the OPXY as they did with the OP-Z (Hold Shift and press 0. This toggles input monitoring—repeat the combination to turn it back on)? Is this just a very stubborn oversight, or is there a reason for that?
