Take a shut out. Feels like we left double digit points on the field. O-line needs to shore up.

But can’t complain about the outcome. Bring on <BYE WEEK>.

50

u/Raccoonsrlilbandits 2024 National Champions Oct 18 '25

Tough opponent next week

28

u/ambiguousredditname OK with 1-11 Oct 18 '25

Bye week will get ya. You get complacent because of their lack of any offense or defense. Then, bam! Stung by the next opponent

29

u/pdawson36 2002 National Champions Oct 18 '25

I feel like they don’t want to show the playbook until playoffs. Which I am okay with

24

u/_Jamnesia_ Oct 18 '25

Day better let it out for Michigan

19

u/BKallDAY24 Oct 19 '25

No, they’re just gonna run it in the A and B gaps then throw a 4 yard dig on third… It’s our Michigan special

9

u/Murda_City Oct 19 '25

This is such an odd take to me. Like theyd rather rush for 30 yrds running between the tackles because later they have lots of run plays they dont want people to see. Lol

Maybe they are just bad at executing in the run game (they are) and the right side of the line is limiting their ability to rush with any consistency.

5

u/TheManWhoWasNotShort Jim's Sweater Vest Oct 19 '25

We saw it last year too though. The playbook was really vanilla until later in the season. We don’t want to risk injury to the guys who will get us the title throughout the season, which means limiting the hits Sayin takes and limiting the passing.

Our run game does need work though, I don’t think we have an answer at RB that can be consistently good yet and our run blocking leaves something to be desired

3

u/Fasthertz Oct 19 '25

Ohio state switched to a Mike norvel run scheme for the playoffs. Don’t know what scheme they are using now but why not switch now instead of doing what’s not working? This can cost them a regular season game. And last year bother RBs were better than any RB on this team.

3

u/Murda_City Oct 19 '25

Vanilla plsu calling and zero execution on run blocks are different things. Rewatch this game and tell me tegra should be playing. I dont care if you have the best play call ever if your guard lets your rb get blasted it doesn't matter. They aren't saving plays they lack execution in the run game

2

u/claughman Oct 19 '25

Yeah, in the second half they were suddenly running the ball pretty well with Padilla in.

2

u/TheManWhoWasNotShort Jim's Sweater Vest Oct 19 '25

Two things can be true as the second paragraph in my post indicates

1

u/pdawson36 2002 National Champions Oct 19 '25

I mean they did it in the playoffs last year as well.. history does tend to repeat itself

5

u/iceydude168 #32 Treyveon Henderson Oct 19 '25

They completely changed the scheme because the run scheme wasn't working. That's not saving plays

2

u/Deadleggg 2024 National Champions Oct 19 '25

The scheme against Michigan was to run directly at their defensive tackles and see if we could out muscle them.

Didn't work.

1

u/Murda_City Oct 19 '25

After an awful loss to a bad team.

This yrs team may not need that catalyst But they arent holding plays back.

1

u/pdawson36 2002 National Champions Oct 19 '25

They for sure are! The QB still has a reign on him as well. You can clearly see it

Except for you maybe?

2

u/Murda_City Oct 19 '25

I mean well see. When they play in the b1g game and have 30 yrds rushing we can revisit all those saved plays they have.

3

u/ayampeme Holy Buckeye! Oct 19 '25

I'm pretty sure we had 3 straight runs for negative yards.. 2 in the redzone. Not an alarmist, but I would like to see a consistent 3-4 yards and more creativity in the run game. This team is good enough to win the natty.. if they sure up the run game no one will touch them.

2

u/Murda_City Oct 19 '25

They have plenty of run plays that will produce positive yrds but we didnt need them so we only ran the negative ones \s

0

u/pdawson36 2002 National Champions Oct 19 '25

I said for playoffs, so no need to revisit. My comment would still be correct

1

u/Murda_City Oct 19 '25

They should play in both so plenty of time to dust off the unused playbooks theyre sitting on.

0

u/MrF_lawblog Oct 19 '25

Where does this myth come from? Lol

0

u/pdawson36 2002 National Champions Oct 20 '25

Eye test says a lot

12

u/NYVines Holy Buckeye! Oct 18 '25

Tshabola needs to pick it up

12

u/kadawkins Oct 19 '25

Tshabola definitely is the weak link on the O Line.

But… fans last week complained that we haven’t thrown the ball enough, need to use those 5* WR… blah, blah, blah.

Go to Wisconsin, a team that sucks except for their run defense.

Gameplan focuses on passing to those 5* WR….

Man, our run game sucks.

Our fan base is spoiled rotten! Enjoy the win! And GO WEST — whoever the heck he is! Dang.

83

u/FlyProfessional2341 Oct 18 '25

Hard to argue with another shutout. If we can get a running game going we will be lethal.

43

u/GaryJulesMCOC Oct 18 '25

I liked a few runs by Isaiah West.

30

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '25

I think Jackson/West with a sprinkling of Donaldson should be the plan going forward. The OL needs to hold up better though.

8

u/Buckeyefitter1991 You Got BBQ Back There? Oct 19 '25

The run plays are so telegraphed, it's easy for a defense to sell out to stop them

82

u/BucksBrew Oct 18 '25

It wasn’t 59-0 like the good ol days but I’ll take it.

44

u/Plastic-Fact6207 Oct 18 '25 edited Oct 18 '25

That game was wild. I remember being completely shocked. All week talking heads like Colin Cowturd were predicting Wisconsin was going to kill us with our third string QB in.

30

u/kreios007 Oct 18 '25

No one saw C Jones coming that post season. That team angrily dismantled each top 3 heisman candidate / winner in all 3 post season games and it was glorious.

My jaw was on the floor every post season game. AL was the true championship, but OR was the cherry on top.

14

u/cjhuffmac Oct 18 '25

I was there. Freakin’ electric!

9

u/BucksBrew Oct 18 '25

From what I remember me and my buds were like “yeah we should win but idk how the offense will look” and we were perfect on O and D. What an amazing game, one of the best in Buckeyes history.

7

u/Raccoonsrlilbandits 2024 National Champions Oct 19 '25

Tbf we had to absolutely put style points on them then to make the 4 team playoff

3

u/kill-devil-films Oct 19 '25

Style points mattered in that game. Had to impress rhe committee

2

u/Fasthertz Oct 19 '25

If this Ohio state team had that offensive line Ezekiel Elliot it would be even scarier.

Move it!!!!

40

u/DulyyNoted Jim's Sweater Vest Oct 18 '25

Defense is electric. Perhaps the most complete, elite unit I’ve seen in Columbus.

We’ll be a tough out.

7

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '25

Who has the offense to compete with this OSU D?

12

u/DulyyNoted Jim's Sweater Vest Oct 18 '25

Hard telling. On Beck’s best day, Miami could be hard. Ty Simpson is dynamic enough and has the personnel to also pose possible problems.

Don’t think IU is built to beat this iteration of the defense.

That said, a lot still has to go right for them to break this defense. Haven’t seen it yet.

5

u/kadawkins Oct 19 '25

Beck only has a best day against bad defenses. He wouldn’t make it out of Q2!

28

u/sned_barley Oct 18 '25

Seems like Jeremiah Smith was really well covered in the end zone today, thought he would have come up with one of those

17

u/seanodnnll Oct 18 '25

I am surprised he didn’t come up with at least one big one, but I would have loved Julian to lead him on some of those as well.

10

u/BKallDAY24 Oct 19 '25

They were both underthrown it would’ve been an absolutely freak catch But he’s usually good for at least one

7

u/seanodnnll Oct 19 '25

Agreed, I just don’t understand how why Julian under throws those so much.

11

u/BKallDAY24 Oct 19 '25

Because he’s a freshman halfway through his first season

19

u/mcspankytownUSA #5 Garrett Wilson Oct 18 '25

Business trip

14

u/broly2932 #2 Chris Olave Oct 18 '25

I work Saturdays now so I can't really watch my Buckeyes as much 😞

But still glad we got a good win, and are now 6-1 ATS!

11

u/NWCbusGuy Woody Hayes Oct 18 '25

Nice to see the backups complete the shutout in garbage time. But...

Wisconsin very well may not win a B1G conf game this year. Finishing at Oregon, vs Wash, at IU, vs ILL and MINN. So no style points today. Rest up on the bye week, come back to crush PSU. Go Bucks.

2

u/InteractionNext6807 Oct 19 '25

Feel bad for fick man. Just seems like a tough situation from the get go out there in Wisconsin for him

9

u/iam43215 Oct 18 '25

Buy week and then onto Penn State

-14

u/pokerbobcat Oct 18 '25

So 2 bye weeks?

21

u/theschnit Oct 18 '25

I think they’ll be looking at the game as their season. Would not be taking it likely.

5

u/Suturb-Seyekcub #33 Jack Sawyer Oct 18 '25

Nothing to lose? Yeah, you bet. I know Day will have our men ready.

1

u/pokerbobcat Oct 20 '25 edited Oct 20 '25

Yes, Penn states backup QB and interim coach is daunting. After that loss to Iowa, I seriously am fearful.

6

u/Suturb-Seyekcub #33 Jack Sawyer Oct 18 '25

Crazy imagining someone calling Penn State a bye week before the season. They were the dreaded hangman preseason. Well, them and Texas

1

u/pokerbobcat Oct 19 '25

It was just a casual poke fun at the Penn State current state of affairs. I forget Redditors aren’t the most fun people.

7

u/TurnUptheDiscord Oct 18 '25

The only real weakness I can see (besides run game being a C+) is our special teams. Besides that, this is a scary good team.

9

u/theschnit Oct 18 '25

C+ feels like giving too much credit. There was a zone blocking run where it looked like every line defender went unblocked lol

0

u/RP0143 2002 National Champions Oct 18 '25

Run game is a D-. Less than 100 yards against a team that will probably have 0 in conference wins is unacceptable

6

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '25

Boot. To. Ass.

4

u/woshiyigedineng #10 Julian Sayin Oct 18 '25

have talked about this issue many times, we need a better special team

4

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '25

With no limits on the size of the coaching staff, Day needs to hire a great STC right now.

3

u/Tasty_Hearing_2153 2002 National Champions Oct 18 '25

This looks even better when you see 2, 5, and 10 all lose. With 7 looking bad and a loss for ND or USC and one for Bama or Tennessee. Texas AM is looking rough too.

3

u/BuckeyeNate77 Oct 18 '25

I think there is a great chance Luke gets a James Franklin tomorrow, Sadly.

0

u/rykcon You Got BBQ Back There? Oct 19 '25

He should have never gone to Wisconsin. Wisconsin has always been a team of overachieving homegrown 3-stars, and has a ceiling lower than Cincinnati had.

After the Bearcats made the CFP, there were coaching vacancies at USC, LSU, Florida, and later Oklahoma and Notre Dame and any one of them would’ve hired him after what he accomplished at UC. Instead, he sticks around one more year for his team to take a step back, then bails and settles with a lateral move to Wisconsin??

It reminds me of Cardale being talked about as a first-round pick after his brilliant CFP run then deciding to come back for an awkward QB battle with JT and ultimately tank his draft stock.

0

u/BuckeyeNate77 Oct 19 '25

He couldn’t have taken Notre Dame man. They weren’t waiting until after Jan1 and he was playing for a chance to win a Natty. Timing that season killed him.

Anyone who has watched the sport for anytime…knows Wisconsins ceiling is higher than Cincinnatis. That’s a silly thing to say.

0

u/rykcon You Got BBQ Back There? Oct 19 '25

It’s not silly. Cincinnati literally made the CFP. Wisconsin has not.

3

u/NYVines Holy Buckeye! Oct 18 '25

Special teams makes me sad.

3

u/Tseets1 Oct 18 '25

Great win but our run blocking is awful

3

u/ZMarty85 Oct 19 '25

Imagine going to your team’s home game, and get beat 34-0 but still feeling the need to chant “overrated”

4

u/TheOSUJackal Oct 19 '25

I was at the game. No fans expected this to be close. Their fans were never in the game to begin with. Nicest fans though

3

u/wordsuponwords Oct 19 '25

The next time this team plays, I will be in attendance for the very first time in my life. Cannot freaking wait.

3

u/cjdapd Northwest Ohio Oct 19 '25 edited Dec 05 '25

Thank you Jim Knowles for taking your sorry overpaid ass to Penn State. What an unbelievable upgrade!

5

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '25

The offense can and needs to play better but 34-0 is just a great win.

2

u/PossessionConnect963 2015 College Football Playoff National Champions Oct 18 '25

Great win. Love the shutout. Looks like everyone else undefeated are losing as well! LSU lost, Ole Miss lost, Memphis and Texas Tech both losing in the 4th. We and Indiana may be the only undefeated teams left at this rate! Turning out to be a very good week.

2

u/Zoolanderek Oct 18 '25

Sayin in gonna throw a perfect game by the end of the year

2

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '25

[deleted]

3

u/ElocFresh8224 Oct 18 '25

Once they took Tegra out in the 4th for Padilla things started to look a little smoother. Needs to be the move full time.

2

u/MAGA-Forever Oct 19 '25

I feel like we look so casual and pedestrian and we’ve covered the spread every week. I think it’s one of those cases where you’re just so much better everything looks easy. If we can just keep every game in front of us and continue to improve this may be one of the best OSU teams ever.

2

u/Poopingisasignipoop Oct 19 '25

The best rusher for either team today was named West.

4

u/Suturb-Seyekcub #33 Jack Sawyer Oct 18 '25 edited Oct 18 '25

We could have hung a really large number on them, but we didn’t because we aren’t Indiana. We aren’t playing for style points.

1

u/CBailey94 Ryan Day Oct 18 '25

I’m waiting for us to nuke a team. I know we got that against Minnesota, but I’d like to see it a few more times before the season is over. Wisconsin’s defense played with a lot of heart.

We’ve got some things to shore up during the bye.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '25

Enjoy it for tonight and then relax. Take nothing for granted the next game.

1

u/Jogailos Oct 19 '25

Tate had one tight catch for a TD. Smith had 3 opportunities to make tight catches over smaller defenders and did not complete any. I was at the game and saw them live. It appeared that he was not aggressive enough. Those watching on TV, what were your impressions?

2

u/Wasteful_Insight Oct 19 '25

All of Tate’s balls were well thrown and he was in the right position on the 1st TD with the comeback. Smith’s balls were all thrown a smidge short and his defender was always right in front of him and both had great handwork to prevent the catch.

1

u/djgern2 Oct 19 '25

I agree with a few takes on here. RB combo should be West / Jackson. Let's build those guys up and let them develop. They are both better than Peoples and Donaldson. Imagine what they will be in two years.

Wisconsin has a strong run defense so we played to our strength and passed. This was the perfect game to allow Sayin to really take the game into his hands. This was part of the plan. Day is bringing him along at the perfect pace. He has the best completion percentage in the league. That isn't by chance or accident.

Our defense is allowing us to play vanilla, develop our young team and still win. Our coaches are smart enough to realize this and take advantage of it.

All that being said, yes, our o line needs to work on run blocking. Day knows this and I am willing to bet the majority of the bye week will be used working on that. Anyone who understands blocking schemes also realizes a lot depends on the RB reading the blocks and finding the holes. This not only relies on the talent of the back but repeated reps with the o line. Until we commit to using the same two backs and allow them to develop chemistry with the o line, we will struggle. I can only hope Day recognizes this and will finally go with Jackson and West. These two freshman will be a great foundation for us.

This is my humble opinion.

1

u/DaBeegDeek Oct 19 '25

West looked really good running the ball. I like that Day isn't just letting players get complacent. If you're not producing, you're not going to play.

1

u/woshiyigedineng #10 Julian Sayin Oct 19 '25

we need a better special team, Fielding is too unstable I'm worrying him about big games (remember last year's the game?)

1

u/tm2716b Oct 19 '25

How about a pitch out wide? A reverse?

0

u/RP0143 2002 National Champions Oct 18 '25

Overall offense: C Passing game: A- Running game: D-

Defense: A Special teams: D+

Overall B+, they coasted too much on offense, leaving 2-3 touchdowns on the field. Red zone offense and the run game are both very concerning.

Defense is as good as advertised. Hard to give a higher grade here simply because UW is so pathetic.

The special teams needs a complete rework. A new punter and kicker are a must. I don't understand why Nick McLarty isn't given a chance. Innis took some chances on punt return that were not needed.

A lot of work to be done during the off week. Good news is they have time to get better before the trip to AA.

What in the actual fuck never rank again
