"They want their neighbourhoods protected, they want the characters preserved, the streetscape. They want what they have now, and they don't want it altered in any which way, shape or form," Ward 4 Coun. Mitchell Tweel said during the meeting.

Bloody NIMBY BS. The plan's been watered down too much already. Tweel better not become mayor.

But some council members said they aren't sure people living in the city are aware of the zoning rules currently in place.

Who is ever that aware of how their city is zoned? And they aren't experts.

One of the concerns councillors brought forward relates to increased density, mostly involving where four-unit housing can be built.

That requirement was a request by the federal government in order to get the city millions of dollars through the Housing Accelerator Fund.

Alanna Jankov, deputy mayor and chair of the city's planning and heritage committee, said it's possible the city could risk losing federal funding if a decision is not made in time, leaving a future council with a larger problem.

So Charlottetown is going to piss away even more Federal funds by dragging their feet and/or implementing more NIMBY BS?

You should see what Julie McCabe and Norman Beck are trying to have changed…

The draft bylaw allows certain areas in the core of downtown to go up 12 floors as of right, with a bonus option up to 14.

Its currently 8 floors with option to 10. They want it to stay there, so nothing above 10. They have both stated clearly that they will not support the draft bylaw unless it’s updated to keep building heights below 10 floors downtown.

Have a listen:   https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bFZwhmPZ-Ik&t=2465s&pp=2AGhE5ACAdIHCQmPAqO1ajebQ4oIAkAB&ra=m
