It’s the resolution and how far away you are from the display. Stick your eyeballs directly to the screen and it’ll start to look similar.

It's 2d, not 3d vr, also vr sets record from 1 eye angle. If you want that clarity for vr, you'd need a vr set with 16k resolution. Not sure that exists for consumers.

One of my dreams is to see The Crew Motorfest with VR support on PS5, but I think Ubisoft has absolutely no interest in the headset

Neither does PSN tbh. But yes the crew in VR would be phenomenal. I was hoping for F1 too

PSVR2 looks even better than this. This is the plain vanilla video output. Textures and materials are "flat" here and no 3D effect. I am sure I forgetting the other features and effects missing here too.
But, go grab these as well and enjoy your PSVR2.
-get lens inserts, even if you dont need a correction(it helps protect the factory applied PSVR2 lens coatings.)
-get a globular cluster

Even after 3 years, GT7 in VR still blows my mind. This one experience alone made the headset worth every penny. 🫡

I tried to play their free GT title the other day (I believe it's called My First Grand Turismo) and I was surprise to see that the sense controllers don't work with the game... you have to use the normal controller. Is that the same for the full game?

Controller or wheel. You want a decent wheel setup for this game to pair with vr, its excellent.
