Purchasing Advice - Upgrades Thinking of upgrading to an 265K.

I came across this deal while wasting time at Walmart thanks to all the posts of finding deals in the Walmart clearance section. Wasn’t planning on going with a LGA 1851 processor but after seeing this I’m considering it. I currently have a 12900kf with a MSI Z690 Mag Carbon WiFi, with 32Gb 6000 DDR5 and a 10gb 3080. I mostly play Rocket League, Battlefield 6 and dabble in Forza (Motorsport and Horizon) and Microsoft Flight Sim. I also use it to connect to my Cloud PC for work but that isn’t a heavy lift at all. I’m pretty sure I could see my 12900kf by itself and pay for a used motherboard and the processor, or it would at least be close.

I’m in the Midwest US, not close to a MicroCenter.

Completed Build - Rate My Setup / Setup Advice Platform upgrade after 8 years

I finally upgraded my pc after around 8 years, what started out as a prebuilt in 2015 with an i5-4460 and a gtx750ti has come a long way, the last time i actually upgraded anything substantial was around 2018 with used parts. Here’s some pics of before my latest upgrade to now

Old- i7-6700
B250 board
32gb 2133mhz ddr4
Gtx 1080
Corsair LLfans that the LEDs died on 6 years ago

New- r5-7600x3d
X870 board
16gb 6000mhz ddr5 (getting another stick soon)
RTX 3080ti
Corsair RS ARGB fans (reverse blade for bottom intake and side intake fans)

Carried over-
Case (duh)
Psu (coolermaster 750 watt soon to be upgraded)
Corsair h100iv2 aio
NVMe and HDD

I’ll admit I’m sad to see the gtx1080 go, from a visual standpoint that EVGA card was in my opinion the best looking GPU cooler of all time, i definitely miss the RGB it had

Completed Build - Celebratory I built a Phanteks EX5-MAX

I built a Phanteks EX5 MAX.

Decided to switch from the old fish tank Lian Li 011d RGB and built this. GPU seems to run slightly warmer because it doesn’t have the extra intake from the bottom case fans, but it’s like 3 degrees and nowhere near throttle under stress tests. CPU runs about 3 degrees cooler, but of course this isn’t apples to apples. I had a Deepcool LT720 before with arctic mx6 paste, now I have a different cooler with mx7 paste. Yes you can remove the radiator and swap fans as I did, but you really have to pry it out. For those confused, if you have a m.2 above your GPU slot, and the middle of the m.2 is in line with your ram tabs, you can fit a 3.5 card, I’m using a 5080 epic x. If your m.2 sits BELOW the ram release tabs, you can only fit a 2 slot card. aRGB strip doesn’t light all the way across because my razer chroma only supports 80leds per channel, this must have more, so I ordered a Nollie controller that can handle something like 160 per channel.

Discussion - Selling Advice/Evaluation My homemade acrylic panels

Thumbnail gallery
20 Upvotes

My DIY project: An acrylic side panel for my PC case

I'm not used to this kind of hands-on work, so I was a bit nervous going into it. But it actually turned out pretty well, after a fair bit of sweating along the way.

My case is a Taurus from 2004, and since the model is discontinued, there were no ready-made glass or acrylic panels available to buy for it. So instead of giving up on the idea, I decided to make my own from scratch.

Version 1: With a black frame

I bought a 2mm acrylic sheet for 10 bucks and a cutter. I was a little worried that 2mm would be too thin, but it turned out to be just right for my case — not too rigid, not too flexible. I measured up the sheet, scored it with the cutter, and snapped it cleanly along the lines.

To give the panel a neater, more integrated look, I sprayed a black frame around the edges instead of leaving the raw, transparent edges exposed. I then mounted the panel using magnetic tape, which means it can easily be taken on and off without any permanent fitting.

The only minor cosmetic issue was that a bit of adhesive from the tape got stuck and pulled some of the paint with it — but it was such a tiny amount that it's barely noticeable.

Version 2: An industrial look, no frame

For my second panel, I wanted a rawer, more industrial feel, so I skipped painting a frame this time. Instead, I glued small magnets — 5mm in diameter and only 1mm thick, properly thin — directly onto the acrylic edge using UHU Max Repair Power, so the panel attaches straight to the case's steel chassis.

It turned into a bit of a trial-and-error process: four magnets in each corner wasn't enough to hold the panel in place. Eight got close, but I eventually landed on sixteen magnets for a properly solid hold. The glue is technically supposed to cure for 24 hours, but I only managed to wait a couple of hours — and it worked brilliantly anyway.

I'll also be posting some photos of the process below. I'm hoping that anyone considering making their own side panel might find a bit of inspiration in this post :)

Have a great weekend yall!

MSI RTX 3080 Ti Ventus 3X Deshroud Mod — 2x Arctic P12 Pro PST, 14°C Lower GPU Temps and Almost Silent!
I finally completed a deshroud mod on my MSI RTX 3080 Ti Ventus 3X, replacing the three stock GPU fans with 2x Arctic P12 Pro PST 120mm fans.
The results have honestly exceeded my expectations!
Before vs. after
Measurement
Stock fans
2x Arctic P12 Pro PST
GPU temperature
80°C
66°C
GPU hotspot
90°C
74°C
VRAM temperature
92°C
86°C
Fan speed
~2000 RPM
~2000 RPM
Noise
Noticeably loud
Almost inaudible
Testing
The new results were recorded during a 10-minute FurMark test at 1440p, averaging around 160 FPS.
That’s a 14°C drop in GPU temperature, a 16°C drop in hotspot temperature, and a 6°C drop in VRAM temperature.
The biggest surprise is the noise reduction. The stock fans were loud even around 2000 RPM, while the two Arctic fans are practically inaudible at the same approximate speed in my setup.
Both 120mm fans fit the heatsink surprisingly well. My goal was to reduce noise while improving cooling, and so far, the results have been excellent.
I’ll continue monitoring temperatures during longer gaming sessions to see how the setup performs over time.
Build details
GPU: MSI RTX 3080 Ti Ventus 3X
Fans: 2x Arctic P12 Pro PST 120mm
Test: FurMark, 1440p, 10 minutes
Fan speed: Approximately 2000 RPM
Has anyone else done a deshroud mod on a Ventus 3X? I’d love to hear about your fan choices, fan curves, and long-term results!
Note: These are my own results. Ambient temperature, case airflow, and test conditions can affect temperatures, so comparisons may vary.

In just completed this Lian li a3 build. Running a rtx 5070, ryzen 5600x, 32 ddr4 ram and a corsair 750x psu.

I cant seem to find a better place for the cables to make it more clean. Everything is already so compact in this case. Its running a 3 bottom intake, 1 back exhaust and 1 top exhaust.

Any tips or thoughts on this build? Its my 2nd ever pc build and took me the whole midday haha.

Completed Build - Rate My Setup / Setup Advice The daily

Post image
5 Upvotes

Finally settled on a daily build, I have a second 5090 OMEN Max rig that I’m holding onto that I got about 6 months ago, with price hikes it’s hard to justify letting go of and figuring out how to utilize it properly In these times of local AI.

Daily Build (used for gaming and 3D/animation and Graphic Design freelance work)
***
RTX 5090 AIO Zotac Watercooled
AMD 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition
128GB DDR5 RAM
6TB SSD
64TB HDD
MSI Tomahawk mother board
1500w MSI PSU
360mm CPU AIO

Kills it on any work or rendering I’ve been doing and linking the second rig helps with rendering times. Thinking of how or what to do in terms of local AI and training a model to help with my type of work.

Amazing rig for gaming as well, running everything at DLAA, Star Citizen def benefits from the beefy CPU 😂

Roast me.

Purchasing Advice - Upgrades Is this a good deal to upgrade to ddr5?

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

Currently have a ryzen 5 5800x, 48 gb ram ddr4 w a 4070 ti. Play racing sims and for vr i wish i had more fps. So thought i was cpu bound and wanted to upgrade, was looking for am5 3d variants but they are soo much. Until i found this mobo, intel cpu, and ssd for 400. Then i looked around and saw ok ram that could pair. 700 worth this upgrade? Maybe i could lower it to 600-650, but am5 ones i want are like 900-1k+.

Purchasing Advice - PC Build / Parts Budget Micro-ATX/ATX Case for GF

Looking to use my spare components to build my Girlfriend her first PC, but can’t decide on a case.

Looking to spend about or less than $100 CAD. She prefers to get a more “aesthetic” looking one, maybe wood or fish tank style if possible.

Can be either Micro-ATX or ATX, but would slightly prefer a Micro-ATX case since her room is kinda small. Also preferably black cases, since my spare components are all black/silver

Here’s the current parts I have, mainly just sending this for the GPU, since that’s the only component taking up significant space:
