Typical British attitude. Just because you view them as tiny and worthless doesn't mean the rest of us do. And then you wonder why they want to leave you. You're like the abusive partner "Yeah, leave. See if I care. No-one else will have you!"

Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have a net deficit (meaning they spend more than they take in taxes) consistently and are basically funded by the east and south east of England. They also spend about between 110% and 125% per capita on their populations in public services. Independance is going to bring enormous financial burdens to Dublin, Edinburgh and Cardiff and those independance parties cannot hide that fact so they avoid it at all cost. Any notion that England would be a benevolent former partner is wishful thinking, everything will be paid for by the new countries, pensions, benefits, nhs, everything. Not to mention that Ireland has no military to speak off and England will withdraw all military bases from those countries including rather profitable defence contracts. Wales and Scotland will almost certainly have no currency and will not be invited into the EU as net takers. No NATO coverage and no trade as they will have no currency. Wishful thinking to win votes from a naive public

Sounds like a win for England then. You hold all the cards. You should support the removal of this awful drain on your Treasury.

Sounds like "Fine, leave me then. You'll be a disaster on your own. I pay all the bills, you'd be nothing without me!"

Except its not "fine then" we would all be much worse off and have less influence in the world. If we really must have independance parties with a one policy attitude then let's at least be honest with the electorate - Westminster will never allow this to happen, you can have all the votes and parades and marches you like but you would be bankrupt and unable to fund your hospitals, police, fire and councils there will not be the EU riding to the rescue to pick up the bills for the next 20 years and people will lose out whichever side of the border your on so....let's just not bow to Moscow's will shall we?

Ironically Moscow wants to keep the UK united. Why would Moscow want a United Ireland, for example? Why would it want a strong independent independent Scotland back in the EU?

3

u/Adr_LDN Sep 14 '26

Moscow wants the break up of the UK, as do their friends in Iran. As neatly evidenced by a massive chunk of the ā€˜Scottish’ nationalist accounts on social media going dead when Iran’s internet went down.

Removing one of only two major European powers to present a genuine threat to your ability to project power makes absolute sense for Moscow.

> Strong independent Scotland back in the EU

That’s not something that’s remotely likely to ever exist.

3

u/StarNote1515 Sep 15 '26

Is this a joke? Seriously, Scotland isn’t going to be a strong independent country. It’s going to be a struggling country trying to get it economy back on track

-1

u/Stinky_Pete699 Sep 15 '26

Like England then

3

u/StarNote1515 Sep 15 '26

England isn’t going to be a stronger country coming out of it but a lot more relevant than Scotland would ever be

0

u/Stinky_Pete699 Sep 15 '26

I don’t care about England. I also don’t care what you think Scotland or Wales would be as it’s not relevant to you.

2

u/StarNote1515 Sep 15 '26

Good for you sadly that just means you don’t care about reality so good luck trying to make decisions when refuse to see what’s in front of you let’s see how that ends

0

u/Stinky_Pete699 Sep 15 '26

It ends with independence. As I say I only
care about Wales. I certainly don’t give a single thought to England.

1

u/StarNote1515 Sep 15 '26

You’re going to need all the luck you can get lol

I'm afraid Moscow wants anything that weakens what it sees as its enemies (even if they are really not interested in being an enemy) and that includes dissolving the union. A united Ireland is no threat to it as it has no military to speak of. Scotland would be devastated by independance without a currency and decades away from being eligible to join the EU let alone being allowed to join, being out of NATO means the north Atlantic is also weaker. The union means all countries are stronger together.

u/Stinky_Pete699 Sep 15 '26

Yeh, stuff England and your supposed charity. All you got is ā€˜you’d be worse off’. We don’t want England and your supposed funding is a systemic lie and oversimplification. You are desperate for this union as you reap the rewards from it.

-1

u/PositiveLibrary7032 Sep 15 '26

Please keep your charity I won’t be beholden to England and its cheque book.

We’re gonna have to stand on our own 2 feet and have some self-respect for ourselves

1

u/James20985 Sep 15 '26

But how? Im not against independance as an idea but practically its going to be a disaster

1

u/PositiveLibrary7032 Sep 15 '26

I’ll reply with what the Latvia said to Moscow in 1989. I’d rather eat grass in the field than beholden to you.

Keep the charity we’re going to stand on our own 2 feet.

1

u/James20985 Sep 15 '26

You keep banging on about charity and how i should keep it like a stuck bot in a loop. I'm not offering any nor am I saying those countries need any whay i am saying is that practically independance will be a financial and social disaster and nationalists have no argument other than descending to name caling and straw man arguments.

1

u/PositiveLibrary7032 Sep 16 '26

Keep your money, build a better England. We’re leaving.

1

u/James20985 Sep 16 '26

Russian bot?

1

u/PositiveLibrary7032 Sep 16 '26

No Scottish, keep your dismissive as your government. After 2016, I will never vote for a unionist party again and I’ll do that at the ball box mate.

Fuck Putin and free Ukraine bawbag.

1

u/James20985 Sep 16 '26

Im not being dismissive im being realistic, ok you tell me where the money is going to come from. It take 10 years minimum to join the EU and thats if they want you...which they won't because you bring nothing to the table, scotland is a tiny country with low GDP it is entirely dependant on the rest of the union.

You tell me how this all works out instead of throwing insults around and trying to strawman me.

Nobody wants charity or the appearance of such

1

u/PositiveLibrary7032 Sep 16 '26

We will have full control over our entire economy and be able to create and pay off debt. That’s something we can’t do within the UK. Like every other country on the Earth.

Where is England gonna source everything? It gets off of us? It’s still going to source it from us. Including all that lovely lovely oil it took for granted when we open up the oilfield on the west coast of Scotland which is about to happen.

I’m not here to justify my independence to you. You’re not Scott Scottish. So regardless what you say, I’m still voting yes when the referendum comes.

Cool

And then me and every other english young adult will sue your country for voting for tuition fees for us

1

u/PositiveLibrary7032 Sep 15 '26

Empty threat mate. Enjoy all the student loans you have to pay because Westminster doesn’t give a shit about you.

1

u/TomorrowSpecial255 Sep 15 '26

The fact you dont even feel guilty your country voted to fuck us over says a lot about you

1

u/PositiveLibrary7032 Sep 15 '26

The very fact that your country wants to continue the charity to stay in power over other peoples says a lot more about you. Enjoy your student loans from benevolent Westminster who deeply deeply cares about you.

1

u/TomorrowSpecial255 Sep 15 '26

I want you all gone and a hard border with a six month visa application and mass deporting of all your kind from my country

Oh and we arent going to let you use our currency

1

u/PositiveLibrary7032 Sep 15 '26

Fantastic let’s do this

1

u/TomorrowSpecial255 Sep 15 '26

Enjoy being poor with no health service

0

u/PositiveLibrary7032 Sep 15 '26

Strange threat from a poster who says they want us all gone. Be careful what you wish for.

1

u/destroyer6752 Sep 15 '26

I'm Scottish living in England, please don't deport me. I love the Union and very sad to see our brothers behave like this.

I doubt it will ever happen though, so I think the chat is metaphorical. The blame Westminster 'get out clause' is about all they have to cover for thier own inability to govern.

If only these parties would focus on the declining living standards of thier people rather than some vanity project.

1

u/TomorrowSpecial255 Sep 15 '26

I dont care tbh

I'm sick of Scottish people especially how they vote on things that dont affect them
