There are 50+ young men out there dating women, working with women, sitting next to women in class, who saw that shit and did nothing. I’d be terrified if I were a student at Cornell!!

As much as I am horrified by the frat behavior. It seems obvious that most of the people in the chat just didn’t see anything.

I’ve been parts of hundreds of groups that I never checked or actively ignored. Suspending everyone in the group without any evidence is just nonsensical

Read receipts exist. These excuses from people like you are pathetic. It's defending this kind of behavior, and the complicity that allows it. See something say something on public transportation, but if it's the bros setting up a gang tape of a drugged women that's a bit to much to ask in terms of accountability and responsibility? Get out of here. The level of moral cowardice in society at large that you think this is a defensible or logical point is insane.

Yes they are responsible and should be held so, they are/were part of group that gang raped a women. Any words you have in there defense must be viewed through that lens, they are accomplices to gang rape the same as someone who provides a car, shelter, or money to someone who just robbed a bank is an accessory to bank robbery. Thats how fucking responsibility and consequences work. 

Don't want to be held accountable for that? Don't join groups that hand out drugs and alcohol to people with the intent of sexually assaulting them. Also report it if you see it immediately, rape culture involves all of the people like you who don't think it's a societal responsibility to intervene and protect vulnerable people. Anyone in that group chat who read a single message or responded after the invite to come rape a women went out is culpable and responsible to the extent that they did not report the perpetrators. 

You should be ashamed of yourself for typing out what you did, be better in the future.

You’re getting way ahead of yourself. My entire point is how are you supposed to prove who saw what.

How do read receipts work for groups? What if you clear notifications? What if they just scroll through? What if they just go all the way to bottom of the message chain?

I don’t think I even need to address the comparisons to driving, giving shelter or money, that’s just an absurd equivalency.

Calling for mass suspension just seems unenforceable. Obviously their behavior was deplorable and it seems their culture was too. I just don’t see anyway you can punish people except those actually involved in the event. If you can prove awareness of the message then sure, I’m just not sure how you would ever do that.

Certain apps like Snapchat let’s you view specifically who has opened the message.
