What did he mean by here? Was he talking about the whole country or just a specific part of the country? If you can't afford to live in NYC, LA, SF etc. then it's not unreasonable to consider a lower cost of living area.
I’m not sure what source this is in specific reference to, but the instance in which I know he talked about it was the latter—basically saying, if you take issues with the HCOL in HCOL areas, then you should move to LCOL areas and have no intrinsic right or entitlement to life in a HCOL area just because you grew up there
Which is superficially sensible but boils down to "solving problems are hard just suck it up also socialism bad tho". The thing I hate about conservatives is that far too many of them are content to yap about the problems with socialism when what we should be doing is fixing the problems we already have. And I'm a conservative!
I mean, real estate is a scarce resource and in America we allocate scarce resources through wealth. Poor people shouldn’t live in the most desirable areas. Not a conservative or liberal position.
I live in a LCOL area. I own a nice house and zone land. If I lived in NYC, id make the same salary (I work for NY state gov and know what position pays there) and would be able to barely afford a 1 bedroom apartment that my wife and child would share with me.
You're right generally. My problem isn't with Ben accurately describing how cost-of-living works, my problem is that he never wants to talk about solutions. Socialists at least pretend to talk about solutions, and if you believe that they just want to grab power--as Ben openly does--the best way to undercut them is to propose actual solutions.
Moving is expensive. Being disconnected from your community, relationships, and support structure is extremely difficult. Low cost-of-living areas are even harder to find work in. Economic migration doesn't have to be a crisis, but it is, and there are a thousand problems contributing to it. I watched the Daily Wire for years and never heard Ben propose a meaningful solution to one.
In America? Lol I can't get over how Americans think any problems America faces is uniquely American... Real estate is a scarce resource everywhere. Like globally there's a handful of developed countries without a housing crisis...
