Because privileged people who have never struggled think leaving to another country is something you can just do on a whim with minimal costs or effort.

u/CTBthanatos 14h ago edited 11h ago
You can't, it's an admission of extremist right wing intent to eventually kill all poor people after classifying them as undesirables.
Edit: they don't want poor people to "go somewhere else" they want them to not exist, and at the same time they're not interested in going after employers that pay poverty wages or addressing unsustainable housing prices or unsustainable privatized healthcare. The entire point of endgame capitalism is to mass murder poor people and collapse in on itself because of unsustainable contradictions and mentally ill fantasies about imaginary line must go up to infinity and unsustainable ruling class suicidal wealth hoarding.

Okay then let me out? Canada and Mexico both have U.S. Safe Third Country agreements which prevents me from seeking asylum, despite the hundreds of quotes from the US government indicating they wish to harm me for being queer. Even if I do manage to get out and renounce my US citizenship, I still have to pay taxes to the US.
If you want people who don't think like you to get out, give them a way to do that and you can have your intolerant shithole country all to yourself.
13
u/Global-Pickle5818 8h ago
I have a cousin who's a famous writer, she served in the US military and said she would leave if Hillary lost .. she lives in Ireland now ,it ends up that what keeps Americans from immigrating to other first world countries is money itself because it was no problem for her
6
u/Ashamed-Raccoon-1387 7h ago
Well yeah, most countries have a "show you can support yourself" rule, essentially that you either have a useful skill set or enough money you won't need any support.
15
u/WigglyLimpo 8h ago
Sadly it isn't just physically being able to leave the US. You need to have a very specific skill set or some other specialized reason that will convince another country that you're worth turning into one of their citizens. You can't just pack up to Spain or whatever and go work at the local market, they won't let you do that. That's for the populace who's already there. So even if you did have the means to leave the US, that would hamper a good chunk of people's ability to actually be in a position to renounce their US citizenship.
6
u/Effigylord 8h ago
For citizenship, sure. Not all countries require the for residency, though.

Iâm going to stop you there, as someone who actually left the US because it sucks.
Foreign earned income exclusion and foreign housing mean you arenât going to pay federal taxes on anywhere from 140k-230k depending on where you live.
And if you renounce citizenship, you only worry about exit taxes if your net worth is over 2 mil or you have been making over 200k a year.
If any of those were true you wouldnât have a problem leaving the US.
And then after that you just donât actually pay taxes to the US.
So aside from being factually incorrect and ranting I donât know what youâre doing

A decent number of places refuse immigrants from non-asylum situatuons that would require them to be on welfare. Being able to prove that you are a boom to the people of the country and not a bane is pretty bog standard.
2
u/GoatPuzzleheaded6185 15h ago
Yeah.... for immigrants.. never heard of it for citizens.
3
u/Far-Speech-9298 14h ago
Shapiro appears to be advocating for the poor to immigrate to another country. As this isn't an asylum situation nobody would take them as many countries will refuse non-emergency immigration for those that will do little more than be a burden on the system.
In other words:
"If you are poor, leave."
"We CANT".

Someone with split loyalties to a genocidal and corrupt regime with a worse reputation than North Korea is telling me and MY people (by class) we shouldn't be here....

2
u/GuybrushThreepwood83 19h ago
He did say it, but the viral version is doctored. The original line was "young person," not "young American," and he was talking about New York's cost of living after Mamdani won. His point was to move somewhere cheaper in the US where there's opportunity, not to leave the country. Still a bad take, just not the one in this meme.
2
u/syntheticgeneration 18h ago
It's funny because you need to be rich and a professional in a field in order to leave. I can't even move to Canada because I'm just a lowly warehouse worker trying to make rent.

If poor people cannot afford to live here, maybe we should just tax the rich.
We originally suggested having work situations that pay a living wage, offer benefits, and no risk of being fired for no reason, but the wealthy have said no again and again for decades.
So, tax the rich it is. Subsidized housing, busses, childcare, and medicine.
