I live in NC. I am actually shocked. Mecklenburg, Wake, and Guilford counties (Charlotte, Raleigh, and Greensboro, respectively) are pretty blue. Not all the way blue, but blue enough that it makes no sense for any city/town council to do this. The state has a long history of being purple. There are some serious strongholds of progressivism here. But then again, we have Tricia Cotham, who ran as a Democrat and flipped after being elected, so who fucking knows. All of this to say, I think a move like this will genuinely backfire against those moving voting sites. Don’t think of us all as supporting this kind of shit because I guarantee we don’t. We’re just fighting the same uphill battle that a lot of our country is.

So apparently it wasn't removed, they simply don't have them during midterms but do have the early voting sites during presidential elections. It's a bizarre setup.

North Carolina is gerrymandered with a GOP that has a borderline supermajority thanks to the efforts of Paul Newby and the GOP in North Carolina, here's a fun read if you ever get really bored: https://www.propublica.org/article/paul-newby-north-carolina-supreme-court
