Nope, FLAC files of a Cloudflare employee's mix

5

u/Manarcahm Nov 21 '25

flac really isn't that large

4

u/HippoHoppitus Nov 21 '25

then it must be WAV

0

u/Manarcahm Nov 22 '25

would have to be a very long song in that case

No don’t give them ideas

5

u/Confident-Walk5748 Nov 22 '25

They have already said that they aren’t doing this

PrOtOn OwNs GoOgLe

These posts must be by their marketing team, just paid for another year of Unlimited but Jfc, there are so many issues with their current offerings that they can’t be throwing shade at Google or Apple

Corporation A owns corporation B is usually a bad sign for corporation A’s user base.

Samsung DESTROYS Apple over their removal of their headphone jack!…. only to remove it months later lol.

Apple OWNS Google Ai and cloud AI by making on device AI and blah blah blah… only for them to give preferential treatment to chatGPT and work on signing the entire initiative away to Google.

This is low-dosed poison designed to foster fanaticism and never warranted love for a brand and fear of another so when they inevitably do the same the others, people are attached to the brand more than the ideals or principles. Evangelizing the brand as an Xbox exec put it in an internal e-mail.

My guess is a rogue employee DoS'd Cloudflare with a zip bomb.

4

u/invisiblecommunist Nov 22 '25

Did they just get Zip Bombed?

2

u/shadow13499 Nov 22 '25

A file.randomlt.doubling in size kids stinka of some AI fuckery going on

1

u/daviddorbish Nov 25 '25

What a foolish notion. Especially when they’ve already shared the cause of the outage. 🤦‍♂️

4

u/Routine-Lawfulness24 Nov 21 '25

If you know shit you know cloudflare is a professional company not a grandma who doesn’t know how to use a computer. You can probably read about that on their blog instead of a twitter company community manager that you like the toes of

5

u/StrangeLingonberry30 Nov 21 '25

I wish Proton would STFU with these posts and just fix their shit.

voice of tone is not matching that are they are trying to be

-34

u/Bronzdragon Nov 21 '25

While that’s true, they decided to hire a marketing guy instead of a developer. The criticism isn’t entirely without merit.

33

u/mxz117 Nov 21 '25

Marketing guy gets more customers

9

u/StucklnAWell Nov 21 '25

Marketing guy makes more money for the company so they can hire more devs. If they don't have the marketing person, they might not be able to hire a squad of 5-10 devs. So do you want 1 or 5 devs?

-19

u/StrangeLingonberry30 Nov 21 '25

Wait till you find out that the official Proton channel still represent the company and their products as a whole and not their marketing guy. This Wendy's style marketing tactic of making fun of other services while Proton keeps half-assing the features of theirs feels tone-deaf.

They are throwing stones while sitting in a glass house.

23

u/Immortal_Jaz Nov 21 '25

Genuine question... If you're this dissatisfied with their service, why are you still paying them? Is there no other company that would serve your needs better?

13

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '25

Probably this person is a free user and is salty it can't torrent without paying

1

u/Darkorder81 Dec 22 '25

I would have stuck with mullvad tbh.

I moved from the Google ecosystem to Proton since it it seemingly had all the important services covered. Their roadmaps over the years also indicated that they will further close the feature gap, so I signed up. Fast forward a few years and there are still many things not they way it should be. ProtonDrive is pretty much unusable when backing up thousand of files, the VPN client on Linux is very barebones, while the Windows version has issues with auto- and reconnect at times. the Android mail still client doesn't have mail indexing, the way photos and photo albums are being handled in drive baffling, Authenticator logged full TOTP secrets in plaintext initially. Things just add up and I wonder - why should I not ask them to do better as a paying customer? Regarding your question: My next bill is in May '26 and I will likely move to other services all together or just stick with email only.

28

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '25

what wrong with proton?

just wondering? worked ok for me when i had their sub

45

u/Previous50_Run_53 Nov 21 '25

people just like complaining

1

u/BornYours Dec 02 '25

You just don't know what you're talking about. They say stealth in unblockable and does bypass dpi, but protonvpn is basically unusable in russia/occupied territories, and they can't do a shit about it. I can provide you a month long list of generic support replies, but the mods will simply delete it.

1

u/NerdyNina2106 Dec 08 '25

Don't you need to do some techy tinkering with the router if you're chinese/russian?

17

u/Away_Veterinarian579 Nov 21 '25

No idea

Not every corner or piece of anything is perfect

You can have the same piece of nothing complaining about something at anything

-3

u/Lanky-Safety555 Nov 21 '25

Technically, there is no Linux client for Drive. The VPN one is almost unusable, so it's easier to manually import WireGuard configs into the network manager than to use their app, etc.

No big deal, except for the fact that they are promising these features for years, regularly putting them into roadmaps, but nothing is happening.

2

u/hibiscuscous Nov 21 '25

Sometimes it seems like there is like one guy sitting in a basement trying to fix all these things. I don't blame him, but it's a bit frustrating. All this while expanding the product portfolio doesn't seem like a problem.

Oh, the "here is this cheap price for new customers. And old customers can pay a higher price" is irritating as well. But everyone does it so, and I do get why, so what can you do.

Yet, I do like Proton.

1

u/Lanky-Safety555 Nov 21 '25

I share the same sentiment; I have been using Proton services for years, and I have no problems with those things.

Promising that features will arrive next quarter/this year/etc., putting them on a roadmap and then not delivering, without any explanation, is what I find troublesome.

2

u/Away_Veterinarian579 Nov 21 '25

And I’m going to be the one to tell you that they can continue to promise it for as long as they need to without being disappointed. Where in fact, I’m actually happy to know that they’re not going to rush a release that would cause more harm than good. That only goes in their favor and just because you’ve told me this right now I trust, proton even more.

1

u/StucklnAWell Nov 21 '25

Im curious what you need the linux client for drive so badly for? I run Linux on all my PCs as my daily driver. Ive never once needed Drive to replace anything.

The VPN client is ugly, but I haven't had any issues with its functions.

0

u/Lanky-Safety555 Nov 21 '25

It seems like my comment was misread; I haven't said that I don't like those things, but that some may be frustrated with Proton not keeping up with "promises"...

Drive can easily be used with rclone as a VFS, and I have no problem with using custom WireGuard configs directly mapped to networks in Network-Manager as the app itself has some issues (clunky UI, occasional hangs, lack of features, etc.)

0

u/RedTShirtGaming Nov 21 '25

Despite looking a little lacking, the vpn works fine on linux

-4

u/StucklnAWell Nov 21 '25

You've very clearly never run a company of any size lol

4

u/SimonGray653 Nov 21 '25

No, I think it's just them having 100 Firefox tabs open right now for the last 10 months straight.

2

u/PalyPvP Nov 22 '25

Lol try like 600

2

u/ssynths Nov 21 '25

do they know their protonvpn client for windows is slow as hell and takes up 400mb ram?

4

u/Past_Consequence_443 Nov 22 '25

Wut r u complaining about? 400MB's is fine.

-1

u/ssynths Nov 22 '25

It's not an issue for me personally. It's just a little ironic. I am not a software dev so I am speaking out of my ass but I don't think a vpn client should need more than 200 MB.

7

u/Hot-Fridge-with-ice Nov 22 '25

Yeah that definitely sounds like something out of an ass

2

u/daviddorbish Nov 25 '25

You are absolutely right!

1

u/hasstian Nov 21 '25

When’s the proton browser out?

1

u/hansolo-ist Nov 22 '25

What kind of deliberate code allows for random anything? Surely it's a mistake or oversight. Maybe someone can ELI5 for a non coder here

1

u/nferocious76 Nov 25 '25

I wonder why Proton is now so active with this type of posting.

1

u/Proton_Team Proton Team Admin Nov 26 '25

Too many opportunities to pass on tbh

1

u/nferocious76 Nov 26 '25

Well ok. I just hope that no toxicity were involved.

1

u/Proton_Team Proton Team Admin Nov 26 '25

Nope, just some light brand-to-brand banter ;)

1

u/Evonos Nov 21 '25

Idk , arguing about a cache that's there to speed things up is kinda weird.

Maybe the social media guy who doesn't know tech shouldn't try to make tech jokes.

What's next ? He's making fun of programs using ram to speed things up ?

1

u/daviddorbish Nov 25 '25

He’s making fun of how inefficient one of the most downloaded programs on the planet is.

1

u/StucklnAWell Nov 21 '25

This would be a valid argument if chrome was any faster than other browsers.

1

u/Evonos Nov 21 '25

It's still caching stuff , benchmarks don't prove the point cause caching happens for revisited stuff not processing scores

-10

u/ImaginaryPurchase81 Nov 21 '25

Peak cringe, fix your shit first

6

u/Proton_Team Proton Team Admin Nov 26 '25

If the social team could fix 'shit', they wouldn’t be dunking on big tech and farming free awareness for Proton. They’d be in the engineering team fixing 'shit'. And if the engineering team were here answering comments… well, they wouldn’t be fixing 'shit'.

And without the viral dunks and social reach, more money would go into paying for advertising instead of hiring engineering to fix 'shit'.

It's a shitty situation, we know...
