NEWS AND CHANGES to r/psychedelicrock! (AI-bans and more)
Hello world!
We are implementing new guidelines to somewhat revert the sub back to what used to be the standard on reddit and adding a couple of rules!
Here’s what’s changing:
All AI content is banned from now on. Posting AI-generated content result in an instant ban (This has already been implemented and we’ve banned AI posting for the past ~two months).
Off-topic content will be removed. There’s a reason all of these millions of different subreddits exist. Psychedelic art belongs in subreddits like r/art, r/psychedelicartwork, r/trippyart, r/psychedelicart. Indie rock/pop belongs in r/indie, r/indierock etc.So if you’re an artist looking for new jobs or sharing your art, do so in the appropriate channels instead. And if you’re sharing OC music the same goes for you. :)
Cross-posting is switched off. The majority cross-posts happening in this sub is pretty blatant spam more or less. A lot comes from subreddits that has nothing to do with psychedelia and therefore does not fit this subreddit. It has become a tool for easy spam like spreading of whatever the content is.
Don’t flood the subreddit. According to the reddiquette we are somewhat loosely applying this new rule. If you post too many link or text posts in a short manner of time, we will reserve the right to remove any how many of the we see fit. Posting eight songs in one day or asking relatively similar questions multiple times in a manner of days will most likely get on other peoples nerves. So please be aware that we are thousands of people wanting to share new finds, post favourites or start a new conversation in a specific topic. We should collectively strive to make room for all of us. :)
Low effort posts will be removed according to the same rule.*
Original Content is as always encouraged and appreciated! But blatantly spreading your music in text posts asking for 60’s/70’s or other specific subjects where it doesn’t belong will be treated as spamming. Continuously doing so may result in consequences.
No flaming, bigotry or hate speech is to be allowed. Depending on the severity we will judge these behaviours on a case-by-case basis. It will result in warning/s and/or instant ban/s. Repeatedly breaking this rule will result in a ban. We are here to trip, not to trip out!
We are doing this because we want to see this nerdy space for psychedelic rock (and related content) flourish again. With that being said the mods are not here to be some almighty gatekeepers. The up/down vote system is key here because instead of mods having some authority on ”what is psych” or not, the votes will reflect the overall public opinion (so nothing new happening here). But if you post music that obviously doesn’t belong like metal or trap, your post may likely be removed. We hope that applying these changes will make it so and we hope that you all will help us in this new venture!
And speaking of all of you, here’s how you can help out!
If you see someone breaking any of these rules, please report it so that the mods can find and deal with the problem.
It is impossible for mods to go through every single link, text or comment posted. So for us to see the faults, we need you to help us! If you see something, say something! :)
And if you see someone flaming others or spreading any type of hate, please report and move on. The situation is unlikely to resolve or become better by counter flaming in long comment chains.
We will make a future post about some other new exciting changes for the sub. We want to start up the ”Album of the year”, ”User Submitted Indepentent Artist Psych Mixtape” etc. again! (as well as update and re-upload the previous ones) But more on that later on!
*Examples of what falls under the rule of ”Low Effort”:
Survey that include zero context or information in the text.
Post where the link is only copied into the title of the post, making the actual post to only link to itself and also doesn’t have Artist/Song in the title.
Voice memo of very low quality with no info about Artist/Song.
OC promotion that only shows a screen print from a song on Spotify.
Text post with a youtube link as the title, meaning the link doesn’t actually lead anywhere. And doesn’t include either Artist/Song in the actual text.
Post without Artist/Song in the title, wrongly linking to a timestamp of a youtube video.
There will still be no actual rule (as we still want to keep them to a minimum) that say you have to type a title in a specific way. But for everyones sake and if you want people to actually watch/listen to what you're posting - please include ARTIST/BAND and SONG TITLE when posting music.
Thanks for hearing us out and in helping us by making the sub the best possible for us all!

Crypt Records Blow-out "You Tore My Brain!"
Tim Warren - the genius behind these comps and a lot more besides. This is only scratching the surface.
Back From the Grave is his greatest achievement but the other series are really good too.

UK Psychedelia and beat
The Downliners Sect. Nobody really remembers them but they were playing ruff-edged RnB and blues, verging on garage punk, back in the early 60s. Contemporaries of the Stones, Pretty Things etc.
I used to work in a record shop and one day this bloke came in with a box of battered old records. I could see these were great records once upon a time but they were carved up.
This bloke told me my boss had said he'd give him £50 for them. Now - one thing my boss told me when I started working for him was "never listen to them. Never, ever listen to them!! If even my old mum comes in here - don't listen to her".
On the other hand, there was some once-good records in here - so I gave him the £50.
The next day my boss went mental: "What did I tell you!!!". He screamed and shouted some more while I mumbled some abject apology. To make it up to him I bought the Downliners Sect album off him for £20. The corners have been eaten by mice but the record plays good, at VG- I would say. It's a 1964 album on Columbia.
Several months later I came into work and the boss said "remember that crap box of records you bought and I gave you a hard time". I said "how could I forget!!". He said - "well, there's a Beatles album in there worth £600".
The work experience kid had been reading an old Record Collector magazine and seen an article on the Beatles Hottest Hits compilation on Danish Parlophone with the 'Eskimo' sleeve that was withdrawn and replaced with another sleeve very quickly. Super rare.
He sold the record (which was in G condition I would say) to another dealer for £450, gave me my £20 back and everyone was happy.
Well, nearly everyone, that bloke the thought he'd done me for £50 would be angry if he knew.

WE SOUND LIKE HELICON - A Psychedelic Music Documentary, HELICON x AL LOVER
Glasgow psych rockers and all-around good blokes document the making of their latest album with LA producer, Al Lover. Really great stuff and subtitles are suggested (inside joke). Hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
https://sgtsplatter.bandcamp.com/album/attack-of-the-fish-wizard
Sgt. Splatter kidnaps a prisoner named Clarice Rudabaga and infuses her DNA with that of a fish and a wizard, creating her alter ego THE FISH WIZARD. She then escapes the clutches of Sgt. Splatter and attempts to live a lower profile life. FBI agent Jelly Dayjam then comes out to the town of Fiction armed with her S.O.D.A. forces. Using the disguise of the goth subculture, they do not blend in and search for Clarice, investigate the attacks of some fishy culprit being reported by the local town people, and kill Sgt. Splatter. Meanwhile Clarice meets a charming gentleman named Juke DeBrief, who is great by all accounts but hates fish and wizards. She must now keep her true identity a secret if she wants to keep him while hiding from the FBI and Sgt. Splatter.

What are your favorite bands with long form jams or improvisations?
Nothing is better than a long song to absolutely melt into. I'm a big fan of Grateful Dead and Acid Mothers Temple. I thought I was a big fan of Oresund Space Collective but the more I hear the more I notice they are a miss than hit for me. What are some other bands that like to go into the long form side of psych?

Two new additions to the box today, Thundermother - No Red Rowan. The electric prunes - Too Much To Dream (Original group recordings)
Thundermother is a psychedelic/acid rock band that primarily existed as a studio band between 1970-1971. This release in particular compiles all their released music. There is also an error in this pressing as boogie music appears twice on the disc, other than that, its a straightforward reissue of their music.
