A while back I shared the initial design of my new quad-tractor V-tail FPV wing here and asked what you guys thought of it. Well, after a lot of development and flight testing, I thought I'd share how it turned out!
Quite a few things have changed since that original design, most notably dropping from four 1003 motors to two 1103s.
The quad setup was an interesting experiment, but the interaction between motor thrust, pitching moment, V-tail and elevons made this one a real challenge to get flying the way I wanted.
I've been through multiple aerodynamic configurations, CG positions and control mixing arrangements, gradually working through the problems until I arrived at something I'm really happy with.
The result is VENOM, a 249g, 600mm wingspan, fully 3D printed FPV aircraft that's now happily ripping around at low level doing acro!
Final setup:
- 2× 1103 motors with HQ T3×2 props
- DJI O4 Wide
- Matek F405-Wing WMO running INAV
- 2S 1000mAh LiHV
- Four servos controlling elevons and V-tail ruddervators
- 249g AUW
- Approximately 7 minutes of mixed flying
The most satisfying part has been getting the aircraft to perform the way I'd originally imagined, even if the route to getting there was rather different from what I expected!
Thanks to everyone who commented on the original design. It's been a really interesting project.
What do you guys think of the final result?
