I just got this in the mail today and wanted to share it. If you want to get some good grit into your samples on the cheap a lot of these old DJ mixers have 12 bit samplers built in. This PS-676 has an ultra low 7.28KHz sample rate. I had one many years ago and I’ve missed the immediacy of the looper and the crunch of the sampler. I still need to go through it and clean all the pots and switches but so far everything works and sounds like I expected.

I'm looking for a great portable sampler for instrumental hiphop / lofi. The M8 and the OPXY are high on my list, but what other options should I keep in mind?
Performance FX are definitely a plus, and I'm willing to invest in it!

Here´s an album I made using the Roland SP-404 MKII and P-6 samplers. It´s all sample based and very lo-fi at times. Some very blatant sample loops are used sometimes. Sample sources are varied. Hip-hop influenced beats. Check it out if you have time.

Considering that the riddim it's more capable than the EP-113 for the same price and it would be my first sampler, which one of the two do you recommend?

- I don't make reggae or dub but some sounds of the riddim are quite usable for me

- Which one of the two it's more suitable for live performances? I perform in a band with a dj controller and I would like to have more versatility and control with loops, effects and transitions.

- Workflow wise, how different they are?

- Integration with DAW, export of projects, etc. how's your experience so far?

I've noticed a lot of old Akai samplers are getting new updates, so I thought I would balance things out with something for the original affordable sampler, the Ensoniq Mirage. As a precursor to the ESQ-1, it has a reasonably full hardware spec with small amount of audio memory, 8 voices, multiple oscillators and resonant analog filters. As wavetable synths are all the rage, I have decided to go in that direction with this project. It has 512 waves, MIDI CC control, 100 patches, MIDI sample dump and a web based editor. I am in the process of creating some initial patches and tweaking the editor, so it's not ready just yet. First, an apology.

We live in wild times with wild methods and stark opinionions. I am not a saint. I downtalked peoples work for being AI SLOP and now i slopp'd-alot, myself. But. I started in 1988 with Commodore BASIC, 6510 Assembly, in which i did alot of coding, also Blitz2, and waste of time: i am a JAVA7 Associate. I know a wee bit about software design, i have been part of three commercially released C64 and Amiga games, released some C64 demos, Amiga things and Windows related tools. Then came AI and i was almost giving up everything... Deep sigh, i was like okay, one last thing, which will be AKAIS9con, the Akai S950 (and S900) Librarian to be released in December 2026. I made this tool to have a better grasp of the S950 for my upcoming PSAUX oldschool IDM album OPUS MAXIMUS.

AKAIS9con is/will be the work of 10 months "software design" using a Pro Subscription with Claude. Those who know know that things can go pretty slow with Claude. Anyways. PROTRAKAI is a subfeature of the coming AKAIS9con, but here is a standalone version.

OK. THATS THAT. NOW THE APP.

PROTRAKAI is a web-app (just a website) that lets you connect to your Midi and to your S950 and you can load any 4-channel protracker Module and if you have enough RAM in your S950, you can send any Amiga Protracker Module (2.3 compatible) to the sampler, and the sampler will play it. Natively. The player code runs in the sampler. You can unplug the midi cable if you want after replay started.

Thats all you need to know. Here is the thing:

(tested here with windows 10, midiflex usb midi, akai s950 1.2 rom 2MB RAM - this should run on almost any system with a chromium browser)

!!!Sending wipes the S950’s memory until reboot, so save your stuff to floppy first!!!
