Discussion Why was this random guy so unimpressed with Gale Weathers during her lecture in Scream 3?

Post image

I know this scene was basically just an excuse to give David Arquette's brother Richmond a cameo, but I've always found it so random.

Gale is giving a lecture about journalism and this guy just randomly decides to challenge her like he has some personal problem with her.

What's funny to me is that Gale isn't just some random reporter. By this point, she's a successful author who helped solve two murder sprees, so you'd think someone attending her lecture would actually be interested in what she has to say.

I know Gale wasn't exactly the most ethical journalist, especially in the first two movies, so maybe he just didn't respect her or thought she was exploiting the murders for fame.

It's such a small scene, but every time I rewatch Scream 3, I wonder why this man was so bothered by her.

She’s a controversial celebrity. People question her morals & motivations.

Honestly little moments like this, or when she bumped into Tom Prinze and he confronted her, really could have set the stage for a spinoff trilogy centered around Gale.

It literally makes WAY more sense that multiple strangers out there would want to fuck with Gale than Sidney. I mean think of all the careers, reputations and lives she's ruined with her work.

She was 100% exploiting these murders for fame. That's why everyone has an issue with her..

And it’s one of the only logical motivations we can have for 8 if they decide to bring the returning cast back.

Honestly, it's not that unrealistic for someone who hates a certain person to attend their event and even challenge them out loud.

There was a veteran from Iraq who attended one of George W Bush's events, basically to yell at him about how he got his friends killed because he lied about the WMDs.

And plus, on a story note, this character primarily existed to set up Gale Weather's character arc about struggling with her new self and her old self that was keeping her from actually moving on from fame and going after who she really wanted (Dewey).

Billy's mom did it too. "I was in the front row asking all the questions"

Gale was still heavily viewed as someone who profited off tragedies. She made books about the murders of high school and college students that became movies, she had several notable tv moments ambushing Sidney while she was dealing with tragedy.

She would be viewed as a highly unethical and problematic journalist.

My guess would be, he most likely exists because we’re all supposed to be unsure of who is “watching from afar” with a potential motive.

He’s creepy and an intentional red herring.

He’s gay and was judging her bangs.

The same reason why Sidney and Tara punched her in the face.

Ese tipo de verdad es el hermano de David Arquette en la vida real? Vaya no sabía, me entero.

Yes. It's his brother and his father was also in 2

Sí, lo de que su padre sale en la 2 ya lo sabía.

She didn't help solve anything. She survived two murder sprees and wrote some books to achieve minor fame.
