Ask r/Senegal What are these traditional dresses called?
I really think these dresses are absolutely gorgeous and stunning 😍🥰 I want to order one and have it delivered to see how it would look on me. But I know nowadays people think dressing up in a culture that’s not your own is bad. Would it be okay for me to get one?

It's called "grand boubou" in french and wolof. Of course you can wear it. It's appreciating the culture, not cultural appropriation. No senegalese would mind.

As long as you're woman who wants to wear these traditional Senegalese dresses (called boubou or grand boubou), there shouldn't be any problem. We are Senegalese. Not American or any other kind of Westerner. We don't have debate about cultural appropriation. Most Senegalese won't say anything bad if a non-Senegalese wear traditional Senegalese clothes or comb his/her hair with Senegalese hairstyles. Don't worry for such things unless you live in the West.
