Mod post The /r/sex Rules and Guidelines - please read BEFORE you post! Updated 2023

The mods of /r/sex make it our policy to review the rules of the sub on an ongoing basis, tweaking items as necessary. In an effort to stay abreast with the growth of the sub and with the evolving moderation that requires, we have decided to re-sticky the updated rules to serve as a reminder for our membership.

r/sex is for civil discussions pertaining to education and advice regarding your sexuality and sexual relationships. It is a sex-positive community and a safe space for people of all genders and orientations which demands respectful conduct in all exchanges. There is ZERO TOLERANCE FOR CREEPY/HARASSING BEHAVIOR here — in posts, comments, messages, or any other contributions. No exceptions.

This is a large community dedicated to an extremely popular topic. If you wish to participate, it is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with our rules of conduct BEFORE you participate here. Failure to do so will result in your removal from the community.

PLEASE READ the FAQ with the most asked and answered questions - BEFORE POSTING!! Posts that do not follow the posting guidelines in the FAQ will be automatically removed.

THE /R/SEX RULES

1) ENGAGE CONSTRUCTIVELY AT ALL TIMES.
This means ensuring that ALL of your contributions here are constructive, on-topic, mature, sex-positive, civil and respectful. Disrespectful conduct will see you banned from the community on the spot. Hitting on other people, asking for pictures (joking or not), making any sort of sexist comment or insult, body shaming, or trolling of any sort will result in your immediate ban.

2) DON’T SKIP THE FAQ OR THE FORUM RULES.
We’re serious about this. Dozens of posts get removed every day because they’re covered in the FAQ or violate the forum rules.

3) DON'T OVERLOOK PAST POSTS.
We’re serious about this, too. Many questions may be new to you, but are very common in our community. Before you submit a post on a common topic, search the forum.

4) ALL CONTRIBUTIONS MUST BE SEX POSITIVE.
We demand that consenting adults be free to express their sexuality as they see fit. Kink shaming, slut shaming, and similar conduct will not be tolerated. Links or references to sex negative communities or websites (No Fap, Porn Free, etc) will not be tolerated. Attacks on the lifestyle of other consenting adults will not be tolerated.

5) POSTS SEEK ADVICE, COMMENTS PROVIDE IT.
The main forum is focused primarily on posts seeking specific actionable advice for distinctive personal situations. Giving advice should primarily be done in the comments. General discussions are often allowed, so long as they adhere to the group rules and restricted content guidelines. If you want to make an exception, please request approval from moderators.

6) DO NOT TROLL OR ENGAGE WITH TROLLS HERE.
Don’t try to challenge, question, tease, fight, or outwit trolls here. Instead, use the Report button to alert moderators, who will review every single reported item. Trolling of any sort merits an immediate permaban.

7) ALL DISCUSSION MUST BE DIRECTED INTO THE PUBLIC FORUM. Do not seek private conversations here, via Private Message or any other method. And do not seek to draw attention or clicks to an outside site of any type (unless you have received prior moderator approval, such as for academic research projects). Every comment here must be a clear attempt to engage with an ongoing public discussion in the forum. Violations of this rule will result in permanent bans without notice.

8) RESTRICTED CONTENT This sub is generally only for seeking advice, education, or discussion about sex and sexuality. We restrict or forbid many types of content here.

9) NO USE OF AI FOR POSTING/COMMENTS, NO REPOSTS
Reddit uses AI detection software to spot potential bot-posts and spam but people are encouraged to report posts that look fake, AI-generated, or are reposts of content created by other users.

EXAMPLES OF CONTENT RESTRICTED IN /R/SEX:

1) PROMOTIONAL POSTS.
This means any post containing any kind of promotional element, especially one which seeks to lure traffic to another site or promote a product. Links to specific product descriptions are permitted if they’re PRECISELY on-topic in the context of the post, AND the post itself is clearly seeking advice in good faith. If you're trying to sell something, conduct market research, etc - these posts will get you banned. Linking to sex-positive blogs or podcasts is allowed, provided you make an effort to start a conversation here about the topic and use the link as supporting material.

2) LINK POSTS.
Linked material must be sex positive and precisely on-topic to stay up here, and needs to be introduced with a workable framework for discussion. Please see the posted Link Policy BEFORE you post links! Bare links to youtube, images, blogs, podcasts, etc are prohibited.

3) ACHIEVEMENT POSTS.
These include appreciation, humblebrags, “I just had to share,” “I just want to say,” etc. These belong in the Daily Sexual Achievement Thread, not in the main forum. Posts which are JUST sex stories belong somewhere else entirely — like r/sexstories or a similar forum.

4) LOW EFFORT MATERIAL.
“Does anyone else...?”, “Is [X] normal/weird?”, “Is [y] wrong/bad/okay?”, and so forth. Human sexuality is incredibly varied; yes, someone else likes what you like, and labels like "normal" or "weird" are meaningless - and in a sex positive community, we do not allow any moral judgments against sex acts or behaviors that are consensual. Title-only posts, posts with no effort at an actual conversation will be removed and may get you banned. Comments that consist of nothing but memes, "this", "lol" and such are highly disfavored. If comments do not further the discussion, they may be removed; a pattern of these may result in your ban.

5) SEEKING FAP MATERIAL.
Do not ask for sex stories, do not ask for the hottest/strangest/most unusual/etc encounter someone ever had. Do not ask for lists of other people's kinks.

6) PORNOGRAPHY, EROTICA, OR PERSONALS.
You may not post or link pornography or erotica here. You may not share pictures of your genitals here - even if you are seeking medical advice (if you need to post a picture, you need to be going to a doctor). You may not recruit sex partners here, look for dirty chat, ask for someone to private message you, etc.

7) DISRESPECTFUL CONTENT.
Personal attacks, insults, name calling, or disrespect of any sort are not allowed here. Sexism, racism, or any type of hate speech will result in your immediate ban. This is a community for ALL GENDERS - refusing to acknowledge a trans individual's gender flies in the face of this, and will result in your ban.

8) OPINION SEEKING, POLLS, VALUE JUDGEMENTS, OR VALIDATION POSTS.
This forum is not for simply collecting opinions - "do you think [X] is hot?", "Women, do you like [Y]?", "What is your favorite sex position?" and so forth. This is not a forum to discuss your penis size, breast size, labia size, ask about other body image issues, or ask for feedback on your photos. See the /r/sex FAQ for help regarding body image issues. Do not post your pictures and ask people to rate or critique you. Do not ask if given consensual sexual interests are good/bad/okay/wrong, etc.

9) ACADEMIC SURVEYS.
These require prior moderator approval. Moderators will review the question formats and will review the documentation of institutional ethical oversight (please provide). Non-academic surveys are seldom allowed. Please contact the moderators BEFORE you post a survey or study.

10) GENERAL RANTS, ESSAYS, EDITORIALS, VENTS, CONFESSIONS, PSAS, AND AMAS.
These don’t belong in the main forum unless you have obtained prior moderator approval. Save them for story-based forums. Or Tumblr.

11) FREQUENT/FAMILIAR TOPICS.
These are addressed in either the FAQ, past posts, or both. In case you are confused, this means that we do not do penis size posts here.

12) VAGUE TITLE/TOPIC.
If a moderator can’t identify your issue or the type of advice you’re seeking, your post will be subject to removal. Titles should be at least several words long and adequately express what your post is about.

13) NONCONSENSUAL OR ILLEGAL CONTENT.
/r/sex is for the discussion of consensual sex among adults. We do not permit posts that advocate pedophilia, bestiality, rape, or incest here under any circumstances, nor do we allow these topics at all in most instances. Note that BDSM and CNC (consensual nonconsent) are perfectly valid topics in /r/sex.

14) OTHER OFF TOPIC ISSUES.
This is not the place to discuss politics or religion, to seek dating advice, to ask for how to pick up women, to rant about how you have never had sex. Posts that appear to be dedicated to stirring up arguments - particularly about hot button topics like circumcision, the evils of pornography and/or masturbation, and other toxic subjects - will be removed and will result in swift bans.

15) IMPORTANT NOTE ON DISCUSSIONS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT.
Sexual assault is an important and emotional topic which can be discussed (constructively) in r/sex. But posts which simply seek opinions about whether a given scenario counts as sexual assault do not do well here. This is true for several reasons, including the fact that assault laws vary by jurisdiction, and we don't encourage debates about jurisdiction issues here. Therefore, we ask that you refrain from describing a scenario and then simply asking “Is this rape/assault?” Instead, ask for specific advice: About how to respond to the scenario, how to avoid it, or how to proceed with next steps. Posts which simply ask “Is this rape/assault?” are subject to removal without notice.

16) POST LENGTH.
For ease of reading and reviewing, please get to the point of your post quickly — in the post title, first paragraph, etc. Consider adding a tl;dr to long posts. Posts which are inconveniently long — over 600 words, approximately — are subject to automatic removal. Also, line and paragraph breaks are VERY HELPFUL for readers and reviewers — walls of text that lack these are subject to removal for readability.

Further information about the /r/sex rules and policies can be reviewed on the rules page.

Pain My (25F) new fuckbuddy (37M) is too big for me

I just started seeing this guy, he’s really fantastic. We instantly clicked and he is huge on foreplay. By the time he took off my panties I was soaked, so wetness isn’t an issue. But no matter what position we tried (other than missionary) I couldn’t take him in.

I’m usually used to around 5 inches, and he’s a really thick 7 inches, so I can’t really take him all the way down to the base like I want to.

He’s been so sweet and concerned and gentle with me, which is anything, makes it more annoying because it makes me want to be a better lover to him in kind.

He doesn’t orgasm from oral (one of my favorite things to give) so PIV is really the only thing that gets him off.

We have such a fun time together… what can I do to get myself used to his size? Or what can we do together to get me used to it that won’t make him soft?

Thanks!

Oral sex Partner embarrassed by how wet she gets

I (25M) have been seeing this girl (24F) for a few weeks now. Went on a few dates, chemistry was great, both of us were super attracted to the other, all that cool jazz

For our third date she came over to my apartment before we had fun in the city. We were getting “frisky” as the kids say and as I was about to go down on her she said “wait! I have to go to the bathroom” I didn’t think anything of it but a few hours later when we were going for seconds she did the same thing.

When I went down on her she said “is it okay?” And I laughed cuz I thought she was flirting and I never heard that one before, but when I could tell she was being serious I said yes and asked why. She said something along the lines of “I got so wet I didn’t want you going down on that” not exactly her words but that sums it up.

To me this was incredibly flattering. I have not had a lot of partners, but is this something that women typically care/think about? Is there something that I should do differently? Thanks !

• Upvotes

I’m 36 years old woman, and my crush is 32 years old man, I have been married, did one night stand once, but I have never wanted man this bad, I crave giving him oral (never did it before lol) but now I wanna do that to him, I want him to do things to me, that I never even think of before even when I was married, or was I love, I can feel from his eyes and hand that he can makes me feel happy in bed, I really really really want this man and wanna see him naked, but I’m too shy, what should I do? I’m afraid he will think I’m an easy woman if he knew what I want… but my desires are beyond everything I have ever felt before

Oral sex How to give a bj

• Upvotes

Hello I’m new here but I need to know. I (19f) am very new to sex, I’ve had boyfriends before but never felt comfortable sexually until my current partner. I’m trying new things now that I’m comfortable with him. He is very kind and I want him have as much pleasure as I do when I’m with him.

Recently I’ve been trying to give him a blowjob, I’ve tried twice now the first time I was so bad he went flaccid after a few seconds. I’ve learned from my mistakes and the second time I was much better but I was still horrible. I was able to take more in my mouth suck and lick, but I did that for like thirty minutes and he didn’t finished until he jerked himself off. I asked him what I could do better but he was being polite and telling me it was good even though it wasn’t clearly. I need to know what I’m doing wrong and how to give a blow job.

Anatomy I precum too much

Ive always precummed a lot. If I get hard (and i get hard very easily) for longer than 5 min precum will start to show.. And its not a few drops its a lot more and it stains my underwear. And when I get a handjob it just never stops and leaks so much. For the moment my partners weren't bothered but I am bothered by the constant big stains in my underwears.

What I can do to "stop" it ? Drink less water ?

Its always a mess and when I put my hand in my pants it has dripped everywhere inside

Confidence becoming more vocal?

• Upvotes

I’m 23F and naturally pretty quiet during sex, even when I’m really enjoying myself. My partner and I have talked about how he finds being vocal really attractive, and I’d love to be a little more vocal myself!

The problem is that moaning and stuff like that just doesn’t happen naturally for me, so I have to make a conscious effort to make noise. Whenever I do, I feel like it sounds forced and fake lol. I have no idea if he actually thinks that, but I get in my head about it and end up feeling awkward.

I’d love to hear from anyone who’s dealt with something like this and figured out how to feel more comfortable and confident being vocal in the bedroom. I just want it to feel more natural instead of like I’m putting on a performance!

Kinks How to relax when trying to pee on your partner

I recently told my girlfriend about my urine fetish. At first, she was taken aback, but after thinking it over for a few days, she suggested giving it a try. We’ve tried it twice. The first time, there was very little urine. The second time went better, but the flow still stopped and wouldn’t resume, even though I still felt the urge to pee. Are there any ways to make this work better? I don’t want to drink alcohol, even in small amounts, because I’m concerned it would affect the taste and smell.

Intimacy and Connection Gf was abused as a child, now feels dirty after sex

My gf(39) was abused by an older family member from when she was about 7 until a late teen. She has had therapy regarding this in her 20s which helped her open up about the abuse with her family and cope/manage triggers.

We've been together for just over 2 years and don't live together. When she's alone she often turns to alcohol to self medicate. It's during these times where she occasionally will open up to me and talk about her abuse. I will generally just listen and be as supportive as possible.

Last weekend there was another instance of this, and she revealed to me a few things. Mainly that whilst she loves having sex with me, she feels guilty and dirty afterwards, every time. And that it feels like it's something she shouldn't be doing. I asked her if it's only with me she has felt that way and she said no, with all her sexual partners as an adult post the abuse she has felt that way afterwards. She feels guilt and immense shame because during her abuse she would orgasm every time, and feels that she would go looking for it because she "enjoyed it". She said she constantly thinks about it and hates herself for it.

I explained to her that she had no control over the reaction of her body and just because she had an orgasm doesn't mean she wanted it or consented to what happened to her.

She also said, that at some times I remind her off her abuser. For context we're completely different rac and ethnicity, I'm short her abuser is tall. But we both wear glasses and are tech savvy, and I believe he's also bald like me. And she said that we eat in similar ways. I got no idea what to make of that tbh.

I feel like she has a lot of unresolved trauma, thoughts and feelings that she's holding inside and possibly needs to let out. But she will only talk about it when drunk basically. The next day when she was sober I asked her if we could have a talk about things and she said later but then I don't want to pressure her and she won't bring it up. She will just carry on as normal as if what she said never happened.

And now, I don't feel comfortable engaging with sex knowing that afterwards she is going to be feeling dirty or guilty. It's a delicate situation but it doesn't feel right.

I have no idea where we go from here, maybe we need joint therapy, or she needs individual therapy again. I don't know, but the things she told me she said she didn't tell her therapist. So maybe she didn't work through everything she needed to if there were some things she didn't disclose.

I don't really have a specific question but any advice/thoughts welcomed. Thanks for reading if you got this far.

TLDR: Gf was abused as a child/teen by a family member, and has felt dirty after having sex ever since. Discloses things while drunk, doesn't want to talk about it sober

STIs Is getting tested once every 3 months really enough?

I'm having a ho phase

So far I've mainly been having sex with women (as a woman) and doing low-risk activities. But next month I want to start sleeping with men and doing more high-risk activities (mainly PIV)

I think it'd be fun to sleep with a lot of different guys. Maybe multiple in a week, if I can find enough who are willing

The recommendation for very sexually active people is to get tested once every 3-6 months. But is that really enough if I'm sleeping with that many different people? I plan to use condoms with everyone, but I know that doesn't protect you from everything

I could get tested in between each new guy. But since you have to wait a week for results, that'd _really_ slow down the pace

Beginner Is it normal to be uninterested and kind of freaked out at the idea of sex?

I’m 21M and a virgin. I like the idea of the closeness with someone that comes with sex, but the idea of actually participating in it seems really uncomfortable and honestly kind of disgusting.

I don’t think I’m asexual, but sex isn’t something really on my radar. It’s like, I want it on the table as a possibility, but I don’t really feel much of a want or a need to indulge in it.

And like what do you even do afterwards? Like you go from such a personal moment to just being normal again? How do you bridge that moment?

Libido and Stamina Low libido but enjoys reading/writing smut?

I (28f) love my husband (33m) dearly. I kind of feel like im broken. We have sex maybe once a month, recently due to mental health on both sides it's been a few months, maybe 2? The thing is, im okay with that? It's not like I hate sex, I just have no desire. Sometimes it just kind of feels like a chore. My husband and I are happy, though i dont really seen any initiation from him. Ive talked to him to see if he is sexually happy and he has said yes. Ive mention that maybe we should try to have it more often even if it's small like twice a month but nothing has ever come from it.

But here is where i feel like im broken or like something is wrong with me. Though I dont have a high sex drive I enjoy reading or writing smut. And im just content with that and I feel like I shouldnt be? I feel like my libido used to be higher but it's fallen drastically over the years. We have had a lot happen (moving, getting married, starting a new job, being the only finacial supporter). As dumb as this sounds, is it okay to feel like this? I kind of feel like i shouldnt be content or feel like a bad wife.

I plan on talking to my therapist over it but ive really been thinking hard on it since it has been bothering me so much. We used to use so many toys and made it fun, now I just have no mental capacity to. I feel like it boils down to my gusabnd struggling to get a job. When he does find small gigs to get money he always treats me. Buys me flowers, surprises me, etc and in moments like that i feel my libido spike. I just kinda feel like a mess and would love advice or hear from anyone who felt the same way

Skill improvement How to be more dominate in bed

Girlfriend likes to be more submissive in bed, and would like me to be more dominant. Problem is that I'm not. I just don't care about giving commands, or dirty talk at all, and they are basically boner killers for me.

Upon googling, Google mentions things like calm commands like "get on all fours" and shit, but I just flat out don't care about what position we are in. Like at all. Nor do I care about what acts were doing, if it's oral or piv or anal or whatever. I'm just fine with whatever and rarely feel a need to alter positions unless specifically requested. It doesn't seem make or break, but I would like to leave my partner more fulfilled.

Anybody out there like me have a partner that likes dominant partners, but is really not? How did you tackle this issue?

Oral sex my bf really likes when i give him head, and i like doing it but i feel so insecure about his positive feedback because im new to them

i’m 23 and so is my bf, but he has more sexual experience than me, not like a super high body count but i’m a virgin so more than me still. i’ve only given him a blowjob twice and he says he really likes it but i guess i get insecure because im new to it like is he being honest?

the first time we were in the cinema (nobody else was there) and i was doing it for 30 mins but because it was the first time i got very sore and didn’t really know what i was doing entirely and he didn’t come. i think also he didn’t because the way i was positioned, there just wasn’t a lot of space and maybe we wouldve made a mess if he came if i didn’t swallow it properly yknow. i got his dick so wet though with my saliva then just naturally and he really liked that. and he seemed to really like it regardless of coming like he told me he enjoyed it a lot.

anyways the second time was in his car and we also didn’t have a lot of room but i was able to make him come this time. i searched up some more tutorials on it, like what to do if you’re jaw gets sore and i realized i could rub his dick against my face when i’m taking a break etc. and i also just tried to make more noise like moan myself because i was really turned on and i also tried to make more noise sucking it. i focused more on the tip as well instead of just like taking it fully. and i was trying to be more enthusiastic like the entire week i was telling him about how i wanted to suck him again. but in the moment i got kind of shy so it was hard to do that confidently then but i tried to say dirty talk when i could.

he really liked the second time more i think since he did come, but i think he was also more relaxed since we had more room than before and i could swallow it this time. and he said im really good at it and like even the first time i did it, he said he was surprised it was my first time. idk if hes just saying this to boost my ego though but i guess i just feel insecure like am i really even good at it? i’ve been trying my best and trying to learn but i cant like deep throat it or things like that yet for example, hes really big and i have a small mouth so i can only take so much.

he said too that he wished i wasnt so good at them because now he wants them from me more. guys idk is it possible to be good at head without a lot of experience still 😓. it makes me feel good to hear this of course but i wonder if im really doing things right or if hes just saying all this?

Communication Sebaceous cyst on ballsack - how to communicate about this to potential partners without scaring

If you google sebaceous cyst you will get a very disturbing set of images. The 2 on my scrotum literally look like ingrown hairs/pimples and appeared at a time when no sex was being had. I literally just thought it was a pimple until it inevitable didn’t go away I’ve had for about 8 months. Doctor told me I’m good. Even got tested and obviously clean. Would this deter a potential partner. Should I even say anything before considering they look like just ingrown hairs or something of the sort. Looking to hear from people with experience or women, if this was something a potential hookup had, how would it like to be communicated to you?

Toys and Clothing Does the Yarosi Curve have a travel mode or travel lock?

Hi everyone!

I’m wondering whether the Yarosi Curve has a travel mode or travel lock to prevent it from accidentally turning on inside a bag or suitcase.

If it does, how do you activate it? If not, what’s the best way to prevent it from accidentally switching on while travelling?

Thanks!

Erection Issue I think I found the solution

So, in a previous post, I talked about how I thought I had a fetish that was preventing me from having sex with my girlfriend. I think I found the solution.
Even though i STILL love the idea of exchanging nudes with randoms and it might be a fetish or something, I found out that if I just stop thinking about everything I go trough everyday as an anxious ball of nerves, I can relax and have sex, even if I masturbate sometimes (I wasn’t masturbating as a sort of punishment to myself for not being able to have sex). So yeah that’s it, I’m just trying to be kinder to myself, I think it might work for other areas of my life too.

Protection What secondary method of birth control can I use with the pill other than condoms?

I’ve been on a birth control pill for quite a while now and am comfortable with it. I’m becoming sexually active again after a couple years hiatus (I take it primarily for medical reasons) and I would feel more secure with a second method of birth control. However, I’m not really a fan of condoms. I’ve used them in the past, but I’m now also on an antidepressant that reduces my natural lubrication quite a bit and the sensitivity down there just a little bit. At the same time, I find that condoms also seem to need extra lube and suck up my natural lubricant. As a result, I don’t enjoy intercourse with condoms anymore, even though they used to be fine in the past. Everything quickly dries out, there’s too much friction and nothing will move. It’s uncomfortable and not pleasurable, to say the least.

Are there any other secondary birth control methods that can be used with the combination pill other than condoms? I know spermicide is technically one but I’ve only ever heard of it being used with condoms.

Please do not recommend a specific brand or type of condoms to try instead, suggest getting off the pill, or to look into a different antidepressant. These are not viable options for me and you do not know my entire medical situation. If there’s no other methods, just say so. Thank you!
