Pretty sure if you have a high level gov job like that you get a pension and healthcare for life, but not sure if there’s a minimum period needed to work to qualify tho
You typically need a minimum and the % of your income is based on service years. For the city I work for 5 years minimum ~2% every year of service. At 5 days she’s entitled to nothing.
I am a lawyer and haven't thought about the meaning of the word in years. This scandal made me realize that at some point I had incorrectly started believing that "lawyer" was a term that could apply to someone who graduated from law school and didn't pass the bar exam, while "attorney" required you to be licensed.
I have no idea how I invented this entirely imaginary definitional paradigm. I think it had to do with the fact that several years ago I dated a law school graduate for a hot minute who had failed the bar twice and was studying for their 3d attempt, and I made up some bullshit to make herself feel better about her difficulty in taking the test.
TL/DR: This actual lawyer was reminded by this event that you have to pass the bar & be in good standing with them to call yourself a lawyer OR an attorney. Attorney and lawyer are 100% synonyms. Otherwise, you're just a "law school graduate" or a "holder of a J.D. degree" or if you want to be confusing and fancy, a "juris doctor".
