You are about to enter another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land of imagination. Next stop, the Twilight Zone!

Yeah the Jordan Peele Twilight Zone from a few years ago had an episode with this as a template. In case any one cares.

An uncomfortable truth
-5
u/jackinsomniac 19h ago
Not really after bodycam videos became a thing. Now we can all watch practically unlimited examples of what actually happened from those people who say, "I didn't do nuthing, the cops are just racist."

u/swinchester83 18h ago
What where
2
u/jackinsomniac 16h ago
MidwestSafety is a top-tier one on YouTube. But there's plenty of others. Some channels specialize in high-speed car chases. Some specialize in interviews with murderers. There's even ones that specialize in cop-on-cop arrests, for when other police officers commit crimes and get arrested. Whatever you enjoy watching, there's options out there now. Turn on your ad-blocker and grab some popcorn. It's like the new version of Cops (the tv show), but better.
1
u/BadTechnical2184 18h ago
Ow they want to ban body cams because they're "racist," the very thing they demanded in the first place.
-1
u/vi_sucks 15h ago
Brah, there are still plenty of body cam videos of cops just blasting black people for no reason.
Remember the cop who heard an acorn fall and started blasting? What he was shooting at was a black guy handcuffed in the back of his squad car.
As well as a suspicious percentage of times when the body cam is mysteriously out of commission, but someone else got the video.
This bullshit about "body cams proves cops never shoot for no reason" is just some right wing talking point that you people spread among your echo chamber because you forget that everyone else actually lives in reality.
3
u/jackinsomniac 15h ago
Lol wtf? Nobody said "cops never shoot for no reason". You're inventing strawmen to be angry at.
You obviously haven't been watching many bodycam channels. Yeah everybody's seen the acorn cop who went viral on social media. But for every 1 video like that, there's 100,000 more of dealing with stupid people being dipshits.
Seriously, try to watching some. MidwestSafety is an S-tier YouTube channel, but there's many others. Pretty soon you'll realize 90% of the job is babysitting adult children. Seriously, you can make bingo cards with "call my mom"/"call my parents" for 20-30 year olds.
-2
u/vi_sucks 15h ago
Here's the thing, it doesn't matter if cops do their jobs 99% of the time. It's their job. It's what they are supposed to do. The thing that matters is the times when they don't.
It's like Epstein. Nobody cares about all the women he slept with who were consenting adults. It's the kids he fucked that we care about.
2
u/jackinsomniac 14h ago
"it doesn't matter if cops do their jobs 99% of the time."
LOL, fuck you it doesn't. 99% is a great fuckin' percentage of cops doing their job, and I'd very much like that to continue.
Everybody already agrees those 0.01% of videos where something horrible happens, are horrible. Everybody already agrees, and you're too dumb to see it. Because you're overly focused on the 0.1% of voices that get over-amplified by the internet saying it's not.
People like you always seem to misunderstand, "cops" and "police" are not one person or group. It's hundreds of thousands of completely different people with different backgrounds and experiences and beliefs and bosses and departments.

Do yourself a favor and do a ridealong or two.
2
u/Maximum_Boros 18h ago
lol ridealongs. Deliberately curated propaganda tours where cops are on their best behavior to create a selection bias and if possible recruit some minor to groom.
I can't imagine being dumb enough to think those are actually representative of day to day law enforcement.
0
u/swinchester83 18h ago
Ridealongs don't do traffic stops like this and you don't get of the car so you'd have no idea what happened anyway.
1
u/Slaidn 17h ago
So you haven't been on one. Traffic stops are definitely done. You're just not getting involved in a pursuit. If the department you go to doesn't let you get out on calls go to a different one because that's not standard.
2
u/swinchester83 16h ago
"traffic stops like this"
So did you stop reading at the word stops? This is not close to code 4.
You're a liar if you're saying you're out of the car before they clear and you're out of your mind if you think they're pulling over someone where use of force is a considerable risk.
What shop let you ride? I call bullshit.

I've seen thousands of body cam videos, and I find it hilarious just how unrepresentative of reality this skit is. Most of the time these people escalate what would've otherwise been a peaceful stop into some crazy shit.
15
u/ClientBudget2848 19h ago
I watched a video where the officer told the guy to get out of his car. He opened the door to the car slowly with other hand still in air, and cop just lost it and dragged him by his dreads out of his window with the door open.
It was just like these skits. The cop just loses it suddenly because the guy is black. No other reason. Just a racist cop who shouldn't have a badge
-11
u/The_Kevinator_1000 19h ago
Skits like this imply it's common, which is the problem. It's not; the incident you're referring to is probably like one in a hundred thousand traffic stops where one cop has a bad day and takes it out on a suspect. 99% of the time, if you comply, absolutely nothing bad will happen to you, because most cops just wanna do the job and go home.
Also, it wasn't just like this skit; to my recollection, the guy getting dragged was refusing to exit the car, or it was the culmination of something which had happened before. Cops don't just pull you over and start dragging you out of the car immediately for no reason other than your skin colour.
5
u/PwAlreadyTaken 17h ago
Rather than arguing over what the skit “implies” or how common “common” is, why don’t we ask what the typical recourse is for a citizen in this situation and what accountability the officer faces? That’s a less ambiguous way to have the same conversation.

u/ClientBudget2848 19h ago
No. The entire stop was on video. When I say the guy was complying I mean it.
-4
u/The_Kevinator_1000 19h ago
Do you have a link to the video you're referencing? We must be thinking about different stops.
-1
u/LarianDivinityBG3 14h ago
Yes, but that doesn't change the fact that this isn't the thing that happens in most of these encounters.

u/swinchester83 18h ago
Why would you do that? And how? Are you a cop?
0
u/The_Kevinator_1000 17h ago
Because they're entertaining and available on YouTube. No, I'm not a cop.
1
u/swinchester83 16h ago
So you watch videos someone chooses to put on YouTube and all the ones you see have the same narrative?
You know how that sounds, right?
1
u/The_Kevinator_1000 6h ago
It's not a narrative; it's reality. Do you think people avoid uploading body cam videos of cops abusing their authority? On the contrary, those cases get more attention, yet they're also far less common, and the data supports this.
Most traffic stops only end in violence if the suspect refuses to comply, and even without data, this would be intuitively accurate to anyone who interacts with humans regularly. Are you more or less likely to be harmed by someone if you do what they ask? The harm comes when these people refuse to comply, start escalating, attack cops, ignore them, etc.
That doesn't mean a cop can't harm you regardless, but the chances of this are so infinitesimally small compared to what this skit is implying that it's not funny at all. Comedy should have an element of truth to it, and this skit only appeals to people who want to believe it's true so they can avoid assigning accountability where it's warranted.
1
u/swinchester83 2h ago
I'm not reading all that. Why are you so into body cam footage? Seems like a fetish.

Ummm... this video is seriously problematic by not addressing the toxic allyship of BIPOC individuals in neo-colonial identity-fluid spaces! Maybe, uh, interrogate your own implicit bias instead of dogwhistling systemic violence against Black bodies!? STOP BEING A KAREN!!!
