In my mind, spankings should be reserved for correcting a continuous series of bad behavior/attitude.

The "every day" smacks that people talk about and might've even experienced? Now that's wrong. But there's the difference. One is sporadic and done with reason. One is constant and without reason. The later is what I call disgusting behavior from parents.

Nope, sporadic or not, hitting kids actually does nothing beneficial, crazy as that sounds.

I can tell you from the perspective of a kid in the early 00s that had to learn common sense the hard way spankings were absolutely needed for me. I can count on both hands how many times I have been spanked and every one was deserved

As a GenX kid, yeah... I deserved it and I changed my behaviour to avoid it.

Got my ass beat when I did something incredibly heinous and guess what? I don’t do those heinous things anymore. You get a reality check moment (ie is this actually worth doing and what is the result).

I don’t condone doing it for the giggles but if your kid stole your car, ran over people and ran it though a storefront, don’t tell me you wouldn’t beat their ass. (This is an example, I did not do the aforementioned thing).

Ok. I disagree.
