She's literally never voiced a political opinion anywhere. Sweeney has publicly stated that she considers herself a non-political person focused on her work in the arts. In other words, the rest of the internet trying to drag her into this political crap are all being a bunch of incel jackasses that can't possibly comprehend someone just living their life and staying out of it. "How dare you not pick a side and dump all your social capital into that".

Now, she is technically a registered republican, but that doesn't really mean anything. It's actually normal for up to 10% of registered republicans to vote for the democratic candidate, and a lot of people just stick with the politics of their parents. Her parents are known MAGA supporters, but that doesn't mean she is. Hell my mom is a hardcore MAGA supporter, and I think Trump is a complete dumpster fire. In fact, Sydney avoids politics entirely probably because she's too busy working and enjoying her life. I don't agree with dragging people into politics when they seem to want nothing to do with it.

“I’m not political” just means “I’m a Republican but I know admitting it would damage my career or personal life and I’m also fine with smoking weed”

No, it just means you aren't political. Just because you live your life in a warped "us vs them" universe where everyone has to take a stand and abhor the other side doesn't mean everyone does that. Most people feel like politics are a million miles away from them, and they can't alter it anyway. They have their own opinions on everything, but rather than try to preach them all the time, they focus on doing other things with their time. They might see someone who has different political views as simply someone who disagrees with them. Not a mortal enemy who is inherently evil. The person I just described is most people. You are in the minority.

No, most people are much more centrist than media likes to portray politics. But with the current issues going on worldwide you do yourself a disservice by being “non-political”

Apathy and complacency is siding with whoever wins. It tells anyone who cares about others that you have no strong morals or opinions, which is a massively privileged take to have

Okay, so there's a lot of nuance to this. Should people be more involved in social change. Yeah, probably.

Should people take a more proactive stance in their government and society around them? Sure yeah.

Are people inherintly evil or bad for not doing that? No. It's not that simple.

We should all be more involved like we should all eat more vegetables and recycle and pick up litter when we find it and put shopping carts back in the thing and drive a more fuel efficient car. If we all participate in making the world better, the world gets better.

However, people only have so much bandwidth. Sydney never chose a path of politics. She's an actress who stars in movies where she's basically the hot girl. She makes a killing doing it. Great. Good for her. Saying she is a bad person and condemning her because of beliefs she might not even have that people are imposing on her which, if she does have them, she is keeping privately to herself is wrong. It's just wrong. I don't care if she's beautiful and successful, it doesn't make it okay to make her into a national strawman (or uhm, strawperson). I refuse to think it's okay to condemn someone for privately held beliefs that they might not even have. Then those same people use her looks and her willingness to get naked for money as an excuse to say she is a morally bankrupt person when I also don't think those are immoral acts. In fact, I see the condemning of them to be immoral slut shaming.

I'm going to speak up when something is blatantly wrong, and this is blatently wrong.

So you agree, saying “I’m not political” is disingenuous and apathetic because there are things everyone has a moral obligation to stand for or against and if you jump through hoops to say you’re apolitical but are publicly registered to a party then you’re lying
