I see that but the baby is born now when she is telling the story. Its like instead of saying "my son/daughter" they say "my developed fetus" but the opposite. I guess it comes down to what someone considers a baby at pregnancy which a fetus is an unborn baby.

I don’t think you get it. A fetus is not a baby. It’s not viable outside the womb.

In a high risk pregnancy miscarriages are not uncommon. It’s far easier to use a nickname for your fetus that you won’t have to emotionally wrestle with years later.

Your love for that fetus and it’s loss is real. But it’s not a viable human yet. And the reality is that it may not live long enough to ever survive outside the womb.

Once your fetus is outside the womb it becomes a baby and then it gets it’s actual name.

A baby is also not viable outside of the womb. Is a fetus not a child that hasnt been born? Is there any possibility of what the fetus will become other than a baby/child?

I think you’re misunderstanding what viable means.

In a biological sense it means to survive on its own without assistance. A baby is not able to do that.
