I just went back to Europe for the first time in 4 years.
4 years ago, I do not remember water bottles having that. But on this trip, they all did. And I hated it.

Why do we have to babysit adults? 1 u/Splith 2d ago If you find it annoying, don't use plastic bottles unless you need it. Do you have a water bottle? On the scale of society you get less plastic in the drinking water or public parks I'd you keep the bottle and cap together.
