BEER! Thinking to skydive for the first time. Have some concern

I am 23 yrs, around 170lbs. I have fainted a couple times like 15 years ago probably because of low blood pressure. Except for that I think all other heath conditions are normal now. Are there things I need to know?

Different drop zones

I am a newly licensed I got 29 jumps only and I think in couple of days I will go skydiving in a new drop zone. Is there a big difference jumping from your home dz and a random drop zone. What should I expect or prepare before going. I am going to skydive dubai

edit: i am jumping in the desert location not palm and they accept a licensed jumpers there i was wonder what to expect rather than the requirement of jumps as i am fully aware.

When In Doubt, Stab It Out!—A USPA Canopy Task Force Update

New/ improved canopy safety recommendations. Please read and spread the word.

Although Sherry and I wrote this article for USPA, we couldn't possibly have done it without the technical contributors listed at the top. Those experts helped develop the recommendations, patiently answered our questions, and reviewed drafts at various stages as we incorporated feedback from one expert after another. If you know any of them, please thank them for sharing their time and hard-won knowledge to make the sport safer!

Mentors/ coaches/ instructors: Please read the whole article, as it includes some important details and nuances, and encourage jumpers of all skill levels to practice stabouts and other CEPs regularly. Hopefully, we can help save some lives (and legs).

BEER! First jump tomorrow morning, anxious wreck

Sorry I know this gets posted a lot, but just wanted to share with someone, doing a tandem jump tomorrow. At this point I'm more worried about door fear and nasal congestion getting to me last minute on the ride up than the dive itself. Definitely gonna be interesting since it's 56F tomorrow. Will post updates if I survive!

Update: I had to reschedule because president doofus is apparently flying into the area today and a TFR got put into place. Dude really ruins everything.

Best weather app

What’s the best weather app to track the weather to make sure it’s going to be a good day to jump. Just getting started so looking for some advice. Don’t want to head out to the DZ if the weather is going to be sub optimal. I am based in the US

Skydiving with gloves and concerns.

I am a freshly licensed jumper (26 jumps) and haven't jumped in almost a month due to waiting for my license and paperwork to be processed as I can't jump in the meantime. The weather here in Germany is getting cold now and it will be 12 degrees of 53.6F when I plan to jump tomorrow. It will be the coldest weather I have jumped and due to my 1 month gap I am a bit worried.

I have never worn gloves before, I like the feeling of skin and the sensations I get especially when it comes to pulling my pilot chute handle and I am worried with gloves I will feel uncomfortable if the gloves are big and thick and I might lose the feeling of grip and feel when it is time to pull.

What should I do? Is it necessary to jump with gloves on? Could it be dangerous without due to less blood flow and numbing of hands?

No idea which option to choose, any advice is greatly appreciated!

Has anyone here dealt with Skydive Dubai regarding a refund?

I had booked a tandem skydive at Skydive Dubai for 8 November, and I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, due to a family medical emergency, my travel plans might not be possible anymore.

I’ve already contacted Skydive Dubai to explain my situation and ask if a refund could be considered. I know these things depend on their policies, but I was wondering if they’ve ever made exceptions in genuine cases like this.

Has anyone here had a similar experience with them? I’d really appreciate hearing how it went, especially if you managed to get a refund or were offered another option.

The booking cost me around ₹81,000, so losing the entire amount would be a pretty big deal for me.

Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

BEER! First Time Skydiving 🪂

My friends and I have been wanting to go skydiving for a long time, but we can’t decide where to go! We’re in LA and would love somewhere with beautiful views, ideally near the beach or coastline, like Santa Barbara or San Diego.

Safety is a big priority for us, and we’d love a place with great views and good weather.

Does anyone have recommendations based on personal experience? Any tips for first-timers would be appreciated too!

We’re open to places outside California if you think they’re worth the trip!

Struggling with AFF Level 4 — looking for a good tunnel coach

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m taking a break from jumping for now because I keep getting into uncontrollable spins when trying to turn, both in the tunnel and during AFF. I feel like I need to go back to basics and work on my body control before continuing.
I live in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, so there’s no tunnel or drop zone nearby and I’d have to travel abroad to train.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Would one-on-one tunnel coaching help? And can you recommend a good coach who’s experienced with AFF students struggling with stability and turns?
I’d also love to hear if it’s realistic to keep progressing when you can only train every few months.

How hard is it to learn head-down in the tunnel?

I have 190 jumps and just do angle and back. I might go to a tunnel for the first time and was wondering how hard is it, and roughly how many hours it’d take.

I've heard a couple of times that you should learn to sitfly well first, but is it possible to skip it even though it isn't recommended?

Deep and Steep Audio

I’m using my Deep and Steep Insight + connected auditable to get glide ratio numbers during free fall in skydiving. Does this work in the base environment? I’ve recorded GPS data on base and know how to do that. Do I do the same thing and it will provide glide ratios in Base?

Jyro Helium - anyone?

B-licensed. 70ish jumps. I'm about to buy my first canopy deciding between:

  • new JYRO Helium 189 (WL ~1.07)
  • new Icarus S-Fire 189
  • used Aerodyne Pilot 188 ZP (WL ~1.08). 150 jumps

My priorities: safe canopy, soft, standable landings first, then easy packing, then openings. No swooping plans. I'll keep it 2–4 years at least. No downsizing ambitions yet :) Jumped only student rental rig before (Navigators, Solo etc etc whatever was available for the load)

The only Helium report I've found is from someone loaded at ~1.4, no local references, nobody knows this canopy (thus not resellable?). If you fly a Helium at a light wing loading, I'd love to hear:

  1. Is there enough flare to stand up landings on no-wind days?
  2. What are the openings like (snivel length, consistency)?
  3. How does it pack compared to whatever you jumped before?

Pilot owners are welcome too, especially if shortening the brake lines fixed the flare for you.

Cheers and blue skies!

How do you talk under canopy?

A friend and would like to talk via mic under canopy while flocking and stuff. Sadly we dont have any cell reseption up there. Are there any specific mics for skydive helmets? ty <3

Edit: Isnt there an easyer way that clipping a huge plastic module to your helmet? seams like that thing flies of in freefall...

BEER! First tandem jump in 24h. Shit scared

Hey everyone

I’m in spain rn- have my first jump tomorrow near Seville. As much as I’ve always wanted to do it- I’m so so scared rn.

I recently did few roller coasters and boy was i scared to do those too- only made me question how am i gonna pull it off w actually jumping off a plane.

i’m 25f, 173cm, around 98kgs- so will need to pay an additional amount to make this happen. I’m questioning whether this is the safe for someone around my weight.

I know this is a repetitive post for this sub atp, but i genuinely didn’t know who to talk to- especially given most didn’t want me doing this anyways. ughh

Thanks :’)

Price check: OMICRON 170 with only 6 jumps but a manufacturer line-trim service history — what is it realistically worth?

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Hey guys, need some advice from the wingsuit palyers and professional Riggers here. I bought this OMICRON 170 brand new last year. After 4 jumps, I noticed it tended to turn right, so I sent it back to Squirrel.

They adjusted the line trim and after the manufacturer fixed it, it came back looking asymmetrical like in the picture.I did measure some left/right line differences myself, around 5–10 cm.They did 2 test jumps. So it only has 6 jumps total.Even though the test video SQ sent me shows it flies straight and doesn’t need any extra input, I’m still gonna sell it.

I’ve had it listed in my country for a few months and literally nobody has even asked about the price. So… can this thing realistically still be sold? If yes, what do you guys think is a fair price?

AFF & A-License Complete!

Well, after years of dreaming about this, I was able to complete my AFF & A-license.

I can safely say that this was the best week of my life!

My course was completed at Moruya in NSW Australia. I stayed there for one week and was even able to complete the first 4 B-rels, which is more than I expected to walk away with.

I'll stick the video here for anyone willing to watch and provide constructive criticism!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ao8EcEZhhxU

Being 6ft tall, a tad over 70kg (154 lbs for our friends across the pond) and very inflexible has deemed that arching hard and falling fast are my major shortcomings. I intend to implement a daily stretching routine to help improve this.

I've already purchased a helmet/alti and I can't wait to get back in the sky!

Pilot Chute Folding Is Harder With A FreeFly Pud?

I recently had a rigger replace the hackey on my pilot chute to a freefly pud while I was getting my kill line replaced.

While practicing folding of my pilot chute after the switch I noticed it’s much harder fold because the freefly pud sits underneath the fabric as I fold.

Whereas with the hackey you can kind of have the hackey out of the way of the fabric as you fold.

Wondering if anyone has encountered this and what you did to work around this.
