Mod Post Are you correctly registered to vote?
Ahead of the November Municipal Elections, a number of voter registration drives will be held. The first is scheduled to be on 20-21 June.
To check where you are registered, input your details in: https://www.elections.org.za/pw/Voter/Voter-Information
To check where you should be registered, find your address in: https://maps.elections.org.za/vsfinder/
If the two are not the same you need to re register at the "should be" voting station during the upcoming voter registration weekends.
It takes a few minutes to check that your details are correct. If you can, please also do so with the less technically included members of your friends and family.

Discussion The blesser concept
My university experience has been good so far, but after years of hearing about this phenomenon from the media/older friends, I've finally been able to witness it first-hand. The blesser, significantly older males who park besides our campus and residence roads in their flashy cars to pick up or to entice our female peers. Now I go to a predominantly black institution, so I'm curious to know if this phenomenon exists amongst the other races as well, e.g instead of 35 year old Nhlanhla picking up 20 year old Mbali in an Mk7 GTI, you have 35 year old Johannes picking up Marelise in a Land Cruiser.
And no, I'm not writing this because I saw a lady I was romantically pursuing getting picked up by one of these guys. I'm a staunch, radical feminist that is advocating against the exploitation and manipulation of our beloved sisters.š¤š

Discussion Before and After Work Activities
What are South Africans doing before or after work to add whimsy and meaning to life?
30F working remotely in a professional career. One would think that working remotely makes things a lot easier but I feel like I am glued to screens from morning to evening and always exhausted. I am front-facing with regulators, auditors, etc., and just have too much on my plate, doing a few people's jobs. The moment I step away is the moment someone will be looking for me. It is odd to explain to others that I work remotely but most days I do not even take lunch or move from my desk. I work overtime most days which is unpaid. I have probably put on 40kgs since I started working this way which I am working hard to get down.
I am constantly anxious before work about work and then after work I feel like I have used 110% of my brain power so I do not plan or do anything other than scroll, watch TV and spend time with my dogs. Over weekends I move without a plan and by Sunday I start getting anxious for work the next day. I am anxious as I type. I am looking for recommendations from others. I feel like work blocks out my entire week then when I look at others on social media it looks like they are having fun after work and aee productive before work.
I know the obvious solution is to change jobs so please don't recommend this as I've been trying. I have been proactively seeking another job for over a year now but not made it to the final round of interviews. I cannot afford to just leave the role to job hunt full-time either. P.S I am unmarried with no children so family time obligations are not applicable to me.

History Most of you probably know this, but today I learned my favourite energy drink company, Monster Energy was founded by Rodney Cyril Sacks, a South African born billionaire businessman who bought a bankrupt juice company and turned it into what it is today.

Self-Promotion My mom wants to be your nanny! Please enquire within...
Hi everyone! I hope you're doing well. Are you or anyone you know, looking for a nanny? My mom (63F) is looking for some work in Cape Town. She's a retired teacher and worked as a nursing auxiliary as well. She's raised a nurse, a molecular biologist, and a sociologistš. She loves kids, and can handle a class of 40! She has a soft spot for children with special needs. Ideally, she would like a live in position, but anything flexible is also good!
Please DM or comment for more information. Thank you!

Discussion PSA: Paid upfront and got scammed
Iām looking for someone who does 3D printing and is able to make a custom silicone mould for me.
I recently found someone from one of the recommendations in the craft facebook groups.
I reached out to this lady (Tasha), communication was well, it seemed very promising and I paid upfront. She sent me the designs, I approved it. And then she ghosted me. I did multiple follow ups - no response. And now it seems as if Iām blocked.
Is there anything I can do to recover my money (not a lot but still :/) or somehow still get my custom moulds delivered by her?
Should I drop her business ad/number here to warn other people?
Do you have any recommendations for someone who does custom silicone moulds? (Who youāve tried personally and is reliable and legit)
Update: so I found another number of hers through a lot of digging on FB and messaged her with a very abrupt message telling her to refund me ASAP - apparently her phone was stolen and she lost all her contacts and now she says sheāll deliver to me on Monday. So letās see if sheās legit and if sheāll actually deliver or not š¤·š½āāļø

Discussion Leaving or staying in South Africa
reddit.comUPDATE (17/10/2026):
For anyone who might still be interested in an update, we've decided not to emigrate! ā¤ļø
Our daughter is now 18 months old, and seeing the relationship she's developing with my mom, stepdad, and in-laws is absolutely priceless. We've also just bought a new house in our city! It's only about 10 minutes from my work, 4 minutes from my in-laws, and 10 minutes from my mom and stepdad. We couldn't be happier with our decision.
Looking back, I genuinely believe we made the right choice, and I want to thank everyone who took the time to share their advice and experiences.
One thing I completely underestimated before becoming a mother was just how difficult the newborn stage can be and how invaluable having family nearby truly is.
I experienced severe postpartum anxiety, followed by postpartum depression when my daughter was around six weeks old. It was honestly one of the hardest periods of my life. Until you've experienced postpartum depression yourself, it's incredibly difficult to explain just how overwhelming and frightening it can be.
Looking back, I can't help but wonder how things might have turned out if my husband and I had been completely alone overseas, without our family, familiar surroundings, or a healthcare system we understood. I genuinely believe things could have been very different, and potentially much worse.
Having our family nearby during that time was something I will never take for granted.
At this point, I honestly have no desire to emigrate anymore, unless circumstances change so drastically that staying would seriously compromise our daughter's future. We still have excellent schools here, a wonderful support system, and a life we're genuinely happy with.
My only lingering concern is retirement. With the exchange rate, I worry that our South African pensions would never be sufficient to support us if we eventually needed to retire in Europe. But that's something we'll have to plan for as the years go by.
For now, I'm incredibly excited about our new home and this next chapter of our lives. My postpartum depression is behind me, and I am so deeply in love with my little girl and my husband. I feel incredibly fortunate to have the life we do.
Most importantly, I've realised that a better life isn't necessarily somewhere else. Sometimes, it's right where you are, surrounded by the people who love you.
I truly believe God guided us towards the right decision, even when we couldn't see the bigger picture. Looking back at everything we've been through, I feel that He placed us exactly where we needed to be to face those challenges. My faith in Him has only grown stronger.
Thank you again to everyone who offered advice, encouragement, and different perspectives. I genuinely appreciated it all. ā¤ļø

Discussion Calling all south african kings and queens for a question.
I have this south african brethren, iām honestly not sure where specifically heās from but I know he was born there, he lives in a australia now, any how, he has told me several times that africans absolutely despise all leafy greens, lettuce, kale, broccoli, spinach, you name it. He constantly tells me how leafy greens are seen as a poor source of food in south african regions and that itās looked down upon and almost judged if you were to have it in your house, he also never eats lettuce, ever, and iāve never mentioned it to his parents out respect because i assumed it was a cultural thing. Iāve so curious and confused because iāve never seen any media coverage about this ever, iāve never heard any other african cultures or people saying that leafy greens are bad ever, iāve searched it up numerous times and to no avail, he assured me that itās true and almost 90% of african cultures look down upon leafy greens as a food choice. Can anybody confirm?

News US officials considering ad campaign to urge South African Afrikaners to emigrate
āState department officials, according to an August proposal seen by the Guardian, outlined a roughly $335,000 research and advertising effort after applications to the refugee program ātrended lower than expectedā since Afrikaners were allowed to apply directly online in November 2025. The document, written by the US mission in South Africa with a department research unit for the embassy in Pretoria, admits officials know little about why.
āThereās currently little research about why Afrikaners are not applying to request referral into the US Refugee Admissions Program,ā the proposal reads.ā

Nostalgia IS IT A REAL THING OR AM I LOSING MY MIND
Does anyone remember KOO Sweet and Sour Marinade from around the 2000s? I am 99% sure it was this marinade
I remember it coming in a glass bottle with a black/brown sauce. It was sweet, sour AND savoury, and so delicious that we literally ate it as a dipping sauce!
I've searched everywhere for a photograph and can't find one. š
Does anyone remember this product, have an old photo of the bottle, or know when it was discontinued? This was early early 2000's and I was VERY young.
Please tell me I'm not imagining this childhood favourite! š
