I think that was my favorite Mox match of all time.

•

u/Ligmatron 47m ago

I say that with every passing match he has

One thing that I’ll give NXT is that I think they do a better job at producing battle royals and multi man matches in general.  I liked the rules and set up for Clockwork but the entire time I kept thinking that NXT gets how to build drama and suspense in the Iron Survivor matches whereas the second stage of Clockwork speedran a ton of pinfalls.

I also think if they do it next year, take the champion out of it and instead give the winner a guaranteed world title match at Full Gear.

On the positive, only one title changed hands on this show and it was still a damn good PPV.  You don’t need unpredictability to create a quality wrestling program.

3

u/AndreReal 2h ago

My one thing about Clockwork is that it feels too abbreviated. 15 doesn't seem like enough for the scoring part, especially when it's six guys. Maybe you do 15/30?

0

u/badguymaddox 2h ago

I suggested to a friend that 25 minutes would give the second stage better pacing.  I also wish they’d do the format that WWE did for the Championship Scramble where whoever the last person to score a pinfall or submission at the end of timeframe is the winner instead of Ironman rules

1

u/hk3391 2h ago

Trios did change hands on the show. Agree about what you said about not needing unpredictability.

3

u/badguymaddox 2h ago

Completely forgot about the trios titles

-4

u/spectrewrestlling 2h ago

NGL there a few matches I wish Ilja had in WWE before he left most notably against Jacob Fatu and Chad Gable  but who knows that could still happen in a few years

u/kihp Tribal Chief Hyper Misao 3h ago edited 1h ago

I'm watching this show in pieces later and the Clockwork Carnage was easy to understand and great. Introducing the idea of the champion being eliminated before the scoring phase, that there could be a sudden death phase, and not having either happen is smart. Now either can happen down the line as a surprise in other iterations. Ending the show on a match with a timer is a good way to keep rhe crowd together pacing wise.

If I had to guess Ospreay's order of upcoming challengers it'd be Darby on TV champ vs champ, a Gabe Kidd eliminator (before Full Gear because he's gonna be in either the C2 or the World Tag League), Copeland at FG, Joe at Winter is Coming, Andrade champ vs champ at World's End, Callum Newman at Wrestle Kingdom. Then maybe it's Fletcher's time at Revolution?

0

u/cleavy79 1h ago

MJF?

1

u/kihp Tribal Chief Hyper Misao 1h ago

You know in my mind he's feuding with Ryohei Oiwa but that is a whole other company so I dunno. My guess is that he either loses the fake belt at world's end and cycles off the world title scene, or if All In's in Mexico he's holding the belt for Andrade to challenge.

•

u/Ligmatron 46m ago

Headlock only match is gonna fucking rock

1

u/xorangeelephant Mr. Royal Rumble 1h ago

Winter is coming is in Mexico, that's Def's where Andrade is challenging

14

u/narutomanreigns Wato Ass Pussy 3h ago

Tomasso Ciampa vs. Andrade's pants best of 5 series please

3

u/badguymaddox 2h ago

So eye opening in how much my tastes have changed over the years.  5 or 6 years ago, I would have been bitching about how stupid that spot was.  Tonight, I laughed my ass off.  I just want to have fun with what wrestling I choose to watch.

2

u/lynit 4h ago

anyone mind telling me how long the show ran? planning a watch on Tuesday.

2

u/ParathaReddit Don Callis Apologist 3h ago

About 5hrs and 20 mins including the pre-show.

6

u/Sio_V_Reddit 4h ago

Correct me if I am wrong, but with this title win Hangman is now the first three time trios champion, and the fourth AEW wrestler with six title reigns (Moxley with 4x World title, 1x International title, 1x Continental title, Joe with 3x TNT title, 2x World title, 1x Trios, Omega with 2x World title, 1x International title, 2x Trios title, 1x Tag title)

•

u/darker_timeline 19m ago

"Correct me if I am wrong, but with this title win Hangman is now the first three time trios champion"

Not wrong except that Hangman and Brody King are now the first two three-time trios champions.

0

u/Cuphat 3h ago

...Joe had 3 TNT reigns? ...huh.

Its cool you don’t need it but I think most fans love all the wrestling, there’s other promotions to watch if you want less  wrestling  on ppv lol.

There was a couple short matches on the ppv & Dyanmite, the way you’re talking is extremely exaggerated.

-1

u/[deleted] 3h ago

1

u/Fun_Neighborhood1767 3h ago

3 matches were less than 15 lol.

The last dynamite had 4 matches go less than 13mins. Let’s try to make a little sense now

8

u/CoreySK 4h ago

Every match was great, but that tag match was the one for me

7

u/XAMdG 4h ago

Tony is trying too hard to explain the pants spot.

It was fun. That's all the explanation needed imo.

14

u/XAMdG 4h ago

I think Tony's response, and the way he talked about Ilja's situation, means that Kairi is coming as soon as the visa clears.

14

u/StewardFlavius 4h ago

Tony was asked about Kairi, said that he couldn't comment on some things, but that he was very excited about her being a free agent.

12

u/AmandraKamandra 5h ago

Ospreay should have a new stip match each wrestle dream

14

u/XAMdG 4h ago

Honestly, using Wrestledream to either have dream matches or dream match concepts could give it a nice identity.

6

u/AmandraKamandra 4h ago

A wrestler being a Saw like evil genius at match construction would be interesting.

11

u/XAMdG 5h ago

Ospreay vs Whomever spilled their drink on his jeans for Dynamite.

Book it Tony

7

Put pressure on Tony for these women!

9

u/uncanny_mac 5h ago

Edge took it personally...

7

u/GRTooCool 5h ago

Cope definitely spilled his drinks on Will's clothes lol

2

u/ZombieQueen666 5h ago

Idk how it was on tv, but man the main event really slowed to a lull live when 9 of the last 10 minutes were basically 2 singles matches

Whole show was really fun though. Thekla’s entrance was amazing

•

u/abcdefghipqrstuvwxyz 44m ago

Yes I was looking for someone injured it felt very off

0

u/I_am_Amphibian 2h ago

Yeah the ricochet section was way too long

3

u/sideoftheham 3h ago

Yes Thekla entrnace was great

7

14

I love that Brody King is on Team HangmanDidNothingWrong.

12

u/GRTooCool 5h ago

I just realized now we can possibly see New Level vs Young Bucks when Hangman said they wanted to face new opponents.

FULL GEAR BUCKS VS NEW LEVEL

8

u/dizzybala10 5h ago

I don't watch a lot of AEW but I really enjoyed this, loved the WrestleDream aesthetic as well.

4

u/Brinbe 5h ago

incredible debut. can't wait to see him on dynamite.

3

u/GRTooCool 5h ago

Ilja has a match on Dynamite!

-24

u/Reasonable___Doubt Idealist. Elitist. Pretentious. Then. Now. Forever. 5h ago

First AEW show I've been to where I couldn't point to one match and say "That was amazing."

Liked the women's title match and the tag title match. Trios match was a lot of fun. The rest just seemed....kind of there.

9

u/mickelboy182 4h ago

You are insane. Tag titles was the best tag match all year

12

u/LordTetravus 5h ago

The tag title match might be the best match I've ever seen live, LOL.

7

u/GRTooCool 5h ago

"I would never false advertise" - Tony

=o

14

u/eggy_mceggy 5h ago

This was a great PPV, felt much needed after a heavy several weeks.

I did not notice until people mentioned that Mox was crying at the end of his match. I always think of him as very stoic but that man really is going through it.

I have no knowledge of Ilya. I really like his entrance music.

Mercedes vs. Thekla was excellent, I love when heel vs. heel has great chemistry. And it didn't feel like Thekla lost any aura, which is nice.

The crowd yelling at Swerve and Hangman to kiss cracked me up.

Shoutout to the TBS Championship ladies. Tough spot to be put in but they had a very solid match. Hoping Dani and Hyan will do more promos. Dani especially I can't get a gauge of who her character is.

MOTN was Andrade/Tommaso. I was very surprised the way they used the pants throughout the match, legit had me laughing out loud. It's not the type of match I would've expected from those two particular wrestlers (although I'm only familiar with their AEW stuff).

6

u/Singer211 5h ago

I feel like Thekla is basically a tweener at this point.

And judging by recent crowd reactions, Julia and Skye are getting there as well

2

u/StewardFlavius 5h ago

This man is so incredibly charming

4

u/datguywelbzzz 5h ago

Fletcher mentioned. Would love that match

2

u/freebread Flow, Like Wato 5h ago

I think Clockwork Carnage would work better either it being a #1 contenders match in general, or whoever survives the scramble gets 15 minutes with the champion right after. Great night of wrestling overall though.

8

u/Singer211 5h ago

Divine Dominion vs. Sisters of Sin was really good.

Skye Blue might be one of the most improved wrestlers on the whole roster this year.

They really should do more with her soon.

4

u/Confident_Horror_137 5h ago

This wasn’t a groundbreaker of a shown story wise, but still an excellent time capsule of 2026 AEW. I think it’ll be looked back on fondly, in a similar light to something like ‘03 Vengeance.

4

u/StewardFlavius 5h ago

What a cool question for Ilja.

4

u/SymphonyOfGecko 5h ago

ILJA ON THE SCRUM

5

u/GRTooCool 5h ago

Ilja on the scrum!

20

u/beeclam 5h ago

Who’da thought that Aussie Open would be so over as individuals (I know Kyle tagged tonight, but you get what I mean) a few years back

4

u/Klutzy_Chemist_3256 5h ago

man I love it for both of them! I never thought Kyle would be what he is now and Davis is a legit monster

3

u/Bahamas_is_relevant Don't Stop Bolieving 5h ago

I always had Kyle tagged as a future singles star given he looked like Ospreay Jr, but pleasantly surprised at how Davis has been able to carve out a really good niche for himself.

1

u/ChairmanLaParka 5h ago

I know I'm alone on this, but the Mox/Davis match is the only one I couldn't get into. I knew Mox was getting his win back, and I really enjoy Davis, so I wasn't looking forward to the ending.

I loved Clockwork Carnage, Wayne vs Jericho and the Bucks match. My personal MOTN was actually Andrade vs Ciampa. The pants kicking out ended me.

0

u/supd00d42069 4h ago

Yeah bro, you're alone in this, it was a literal MOTY contender.

1

u/Str82thaDOME 2h ago

I thought so too. Just completely engrossed by that one.

1

u/ZombieQueen666 5h ago

It was definitely the slowest live. I would’ve maybe swapped that and the Jericho/Wayne match

22

u/liloutsider 5h ago

Tony Khan has injected so much fulfillment into my life since 2019.

2

u/Expensive_Produce528 5h ago

Finally Mone accepted Renee has her world champion

8

u/Klutzy_Chemist_3256 5h ago

My biggest issues with the show were the trios and clockwork carnage. A lot of these dudes have been built up through 15+ minute matches where a pin is so hard to come by, so having these matches with pins coming so easy is weird. You could hear it in the crowd (or not hear it, I guess). It went against AEW's house style, imo

6

u/Jonoabbo 5h ago

Sisters of Sin put in one of the best performances they've had as a team in that opener. Both are really starting to find their feet more, and it's nice to see it come through. Julia's strikes feel so much more hard hitting than they used too, and Skye works so much better when she can lead a match more dominantly.

8

u/Ok_Problem_314 5h ago

We can always count on AEW to deliver on their ppvs and give us something to look forward to. They respect our time as fans and make it worthwhile going from one PPV to the next. Just for sake of the quality of this PPV, money in the bank was the first wwe PLE in nearly 3 months, and besides Penta winning, was not good. They made fans wait that long for another PLE just for MITB to be of poor quality

10

u/XAMdG 5h ago

Clockwork Carnage for the TNT title would go hard as a Dynamite main event. A bit more realistic that anybody can take the pin fast, and anybody could come out as champ (sorry Speedball, it was clear you were there to take the pin in the first half).

10

u/LilyWhiteClaw 5h ago

Credit where its due, Jericho put Wayne over

4

u/heart_o_oak 4h ago

Yeah, the problem is less match results and more the general booking of his feuds, which sometimes don't play to his opponents' strengths, and the follow up on his opponents once the feud is over.

Wayne winning here is great for him but he's going to miss a couple weeks of TV later this month because of NJPW's tag league so there's a chance his possible momentum coming out of this could be momentarily paused.

6

u/American-Punk-Dragon 5h ago

Twice. He puts tons of people over. Facts say this. Not his fault they don’t get better after leaving feuds he doesn’t book………

7

u/ThatguyJimmy117 6h ago

Curious on an update on Darby, doctors were looking at him from his stair bump till the end of the match

20

u/Lazerwave06 6h ago

Every match was good / great. AEW delivers again.

Mox and Davis took us on an emotional rollercoaster with their match. Match of the night for me. Added more depth to Mox's character and made Davis even more of a relentless threat.

Individuals I enjoyed the most, Persephone, Fletcher and Ricochet.

8

u/spanman112 5h ago

Mox v Davis was so goddamn good. Peak storytelling during a match

10

u/inflictedcorn 6h ago

Great show, Mox vs Davis was amazing. My kid LOVED that match rooting hard for Moxley. Really excited for Ilja officially in, I’ve been hoping this would happen for a minute.

28

u/Marc_Quill Elevated 6h ago

the more I look at Mox/Davis, the more I think about how they managed to do so much in packing a perfect amount of in-ring work and storytelling to give us a match that felt special. You had Davis being treated as a near-unstoppable force that would've pretty much had Moxley beat if not for Mox's Death Riders friends willing him on to keep going. Just, wow. Great stuff from both.

12

u/jesuswig 6h ago

Clockwork Carnage was pretty incredible. Definitely want to see another go at it with a longer build

2

u/infidelkastro 5h ago

Maybe a 25 min period instead of 15. I didnt personally like the cramming in pins at the beginning. Good match though.

3

u/spanman112 5h ago edited 4h ago

yeah if you give it more time to breathe like that, it could be AEW's version of the Royal Rumble. Don't get me wrong, i like casino gauntlet matches ... but ever since they stopped doing them as ladder matches ... and since they always talk about how much the first two spots matter so much only for them to never pay it off with one of those two winning before the third entrant comes in, i dunno, feels kinda stale imo. this was fresh but familiar and really got the juices flowing. I loved it!

7

u/alldayrain 6h ago

Mox and Davis had the MOTN, we need to have a conversation about Davis as That Guy soon because he's been on a stellar run. Clockwork was fine but I don't want to see it main event another PPV, would be a fun Dynamite main though. Jericho kicking out of Nick's finish at 1 and only losing via rollup sucked. THE PANTS KICKED OUT. Good show.

8

u/IAlwaysWantToMosh 6h ago

Young Bucks winning was match of the night for me among some absolute heaters. The pants kicking out at 2 was my favorite isolated moment.

27

u/Scory22 6h ago

Should out to section 102 it was Nick Wayne country in Orlando tonight

1

u/Avocadoaficiando 2h ago

I’m not in section 102 but a huge Nick Wayne fan watching from Chicago!

4

u/InconditeCullion 4h ago

My friends and I were trying to hold it down in 101

10

u/Zesty_Morton 5h ago

I was one of the Nick Wayne sickos in 102!! That’s my guy!!

NICK WAYNE BEAT CHRIS JERICHO X2

6

u/Underhorse 5h ago

Damn fucking right, 102 was going nuts for Nick Wayne

6

u/GrumpyAntelope Cardblade 5h ago

Section 102 represent!

31

u/javy_z 6h ago

Oops another banger PPV

TK just doesn’t miss. Incredible outing by that company and those performers, especially considering the losses and emotion they’ve had to deal with recently.

7

u/spanman112 5h ago

oops all bangers lol

41

u/LilyWhiteClaw 6h ago

I had a really fun time with this show. The main event format was very interesting and I also think we will get better versions in the future.

Moxley Davis was my motn. Just a sensational job of storytelling from all involved. Mox's eyebrow was hanging off by the end!

The Young Bucks are one of the best wrestling acts of all time. Take tag team iur of it, they eclipsed that already. They are closer to GOAT status in all of Wrestling then they are given credit for.

Mercedes Mone is going to be looked back as the greatest American women's wrestler of all time when its all said and done. Everytime sges on pov it feels important. Everytime she elevates her opponent. And my God whenever they have Thekla go full face shes going to be massively over.

4

u/hhhisthegame 6h ago

We may disagree on the Young Bucks, but 100% I agree on Mercedes Moné. She is phenomenal, and I feel like she's almost under-appreciated because I feel like people don't talk enough about some of the things she does that so few other wrestlers do.

9

u/sharx27 6h ago

That was awesome

13

u/Klutzy_Chemist_3256 6h ago

Hope we get Ospreay vs Joe out of this too. Joe made the champ tap

-8

u/Former_Intern_8271 6h ago

I really don't think will should have tapped out, one because he's world champ and just beat moxley, two because there were 4 other people in the match who shouldn't have wanted Joe to get the point, he held the submission for a long time, someone should have broken it up.

6

u/Confident_Horror_137 5h ago

Seemed clear they sold it as him doing it out of self preservation, tap now before the damage gets too severe type of thing. Also its fuckin Samoa Joe…

1

u/XAMdG 5h ago

I don't mind him tapping out. I just wished it narratively made sense. Either you tap out fast to avoid damage, or you take damage and suffer until someone breaks the submission. If you spend long on the submission, and you still tap, you ended up in the worst path, and there should be consequences for what would have been a "strategic mistake", not go on and win the match like nothing happened.

12

u/mickelboy182 6h ago

The entire point of this match type is to allow for this stuff

-1

u/Former_Intern_8271 6h ago

What do you mean?

5

u/filthysize 5h ago

Commentary actually talked about that point. It's smarter in this type of match to just tap out to break out of a submission and then try to gain a point again in the remaining time, rather than keep fighting and risking passing out which would mean an immediate elimination.

0

u/Former_Intern_8271 1h ago

I k more, I don't think it worked

7

u/mickelboy182 5h ago

Will tapping for a single point is a business decision, doesn't lose him the match.

0

u/Former_Intern_8271 5h ago

I didn't say it lost him the match?

5

u/mickelboy182 5h ago

So what's your problem with the world champ making the intelligent call to tap?

0

u/Former_Intern_8271 1h ago

I think you understand what I'm saying

4

u/nunboi 5h ago

In an Iron Man type match starters need to play the long game. Sitting in a hold too long not only runs the clock down but also leaves you more exhausted and beaten up, sometimes the smart pay is to eat a pin or submit and then get the point back quickly and potentially rally to gain another point.

Plus it also sets up future feuds where people can brag about gaining the point.

-5

u/Former_Intern_8271 5h ago

That doesn't explain why nobody broke it up and why it has to be booked as a tap

4

u/thekydragon This scarf is made of pashmina 6h ago

To set up future feuds

-2

u/Former_Intern_8271 6h ago

Will is a face so you can easily have heels sneak pins on him without a clean tap

5

u/thekydragon This scarf is made of pashmina 6h ago

You could, but it does not hurt Will to tap at all in this kind of match. Even Nigel pointed out that Will should tap quickly or can lead himself more vulnerable

3

u/RedDeadCowboyShit 5h ago

This, it’s literally a strategic play. In a one fall match, you hold on for dear life in a hold and only tap out when you have nothing more to give, because tapping there is the end of the match. But why the fuck would you do that in a match where you’re going to still be in it for another 10 minutes regardless of whether or not you tap? You want to get out of that position with minimal injury, so you can get your point back easier. It doesn’t make him look weak, it makes him look smart.

58

u/Brinbe 6h ago

shout-out to bandido getting one of the best moments in the entire show. a top-class performer who has given a lot and put over so many ppl this year so it's great to see him get a W like that.

31

u/times_zero 6h ago

I loved Bandido pinned Swerve, in particular, as it felt like to me he got his redemption for his PPV loss to him earlier this year.

15

u/The-Crimson-Blur 6h ago

appreciated realizing in the live thread that Persephone has a 13%-opacity sneer laid over her facial expressions & movements (somehow; you see it when you look for it)

I forget who said it, but it really does draw comparisons to MJF. That full-body sneer is on at some level all the time.

If she picks the right story to turn the sneer off, the sky's the limit.

12

u/sulwen314 6h ago

Mox/Davis was the match of the night for me. Amazing how genuinely emotional wrestling can be sometimes.

2

u/SymphonyOfGecko 6h ago

Yes for me too!

9

u/risebac 6h ago

I havent thought about Command & Conquer in forever. Hearing Iljas theme brought all those memories back. I'm glad hes in AEW.

9

u/Few_Bridge_6058 6h ago

Considering all the tragedy and fallout from All Out in September, this show was excellent. You could tell this card was the result of more than afew audibles called, still excellent.

53

u/Rspies Who Can Stop The Path of Cage 6h ago

Jericho/Wayne feud if it’s done really was a good piece of business even if folks are blinded by their dislike of Jericho to see it. Jericho wins match 1 by being more experienced and essentially outsmarting Nick, Nick wins match 2 vis cheating, match 3 Nick tries to cheat again Jericho outsmarts him but still loses. That was what a month and a half and like a very logical story tbh and has elevated Nick to an actual midcard contender now imo

29

u/SymphonyOfGecko 6h ago

I’m praying it’s done 😭

11

u/Rspies Who Can Stop The Path of Cage 6h ago

Yeah let Nick move onto Darby and Jericho can put over idfk who but there’s gotta be someone he can work with that I’m just not thinking of. You could do him and Swerve I guess like I mean it’s fresh so a 3 week program between them I guess sure

6

u/Tycho-Celchu 6h ago

Question from my stupid ass: why did I pay $54 dollars for something I can't pause as it just boots me out when the event ends?

Just kicked me as the main event hit the 2nd phase. Like is this an Amazon Prime thing?

5

u/Accomplished-Ear7068 6h ago

Yes, I’ve never had a problem with that on HBOmax.

4

u/PastelDeLuna 6h ago

Might be, we watch on HBO and have never had that issue.

Worst I get is some delay swapping between the preshow and actually PPV

14

u/Awkwardphase06 6h ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/I4wGMXoi2kMDe
PPV of the year for me. What the talent had to go through these past 3 weeks, hell this past month and came out firing like this? Amazing, no misses tonight. just real graps, that Clockwork Carnage is pure brilliance.

ughhh 10/10 PPV

17

u/comahan 6h ago

Bucks/DCF and Mox/Davis co-MOTN's for absolute opposite reasons, my fav thing about aew is the diversity of styles, and those two might be the perfect example of top top tier wrestling done in two completely different ways

12

u/Fidel_Costco Fashion Icon 6h ago

Guys. AEW doesn't do filler. It's always killer.

2

u/GoodMorningWood just a sexy boy 6h ago

Is there a reason why there is lack of highlights posted on this subreddit anymore? Like some big ppvs have happened and I don't see any highlights of spots, debuts, or match finishes on the front page at all.

IIRC they get quickly removed for fears of copyright strikes

100 years of annual Carnage please

7

u/Jonoabbo 6h ago

Banger of a show, really good matches throughout, Ilja debuting is awesome, some nice build to some upcoming things. Great stuff.

Common Young Bucks banger, but god damn Knight and Fletcher are one of the most badass tag teams I’ve ever seen. Get why they didn’t win, but amazing layout and execution of that match. Think the crowd actually wanted to see Kyle and Kevin win in the end lol

3

u/farshnikord 5h ago

Kyle Knight is great. I hope they become on-screen friends and both turn face so we can hear don callis brag about how validated he was while still running them down..

7

u/ChairmanLaParka 5h ago

Fletchknight.

u/Big_Track_6734 6h ago

Really enjoyed the PPV. Mox and Davis got me invested in a match I thought was best suited for Dynamite. A Cope heel run toward the title or even with it is fine by me. Heel Cope should be put down by Will. Face Cope by Fletcher.

15

u/Rspies Who Can Stop The Path of Cage 6h ago

Heel Cope not wanting to turn heel but feeling he has to to become World Champion again would be great imo. And probably the best way to do heel Cope because you can’t actually do Rated R Superstar with a 50 year old man lol

2

u/bayleysgal1996 Last Rock-n-Rolla 5h ago

I really like that idea, although that might be because that’s where I thought Cena’s final run was going and I’m still disappointed they didn’t take that route

2

u/Rspies Who Can Stop The Path of Cage 5h ago

AEW are much better with actually letting people be complex like that I feel these days vs WWE

5

u/DavidL1112 5h ago

I was shocked they didn’t call him the Ultimate Opportunist on commentary. Maybe that’s still copyrighted.

5

u/Fidel_Costco Fashion Icon 6h ago

I don't think Edge needs to go heel for a program with Will. He can be the "heel" so to speak, but Edge doesn't need to change anything he's doing.

3

u/Rspies Who Can Stop The Path of Cage 5h ago

I think he should be a heel in the same way Hangman was in 2024/2025 where it’s like “damn man it’s a shame how far he’s fallen”

7

u/shnwllc AJ Styles 6h ago

Really fun show, I never bought this was going to be a filler PPV with the card it had. Clockwork Carnage, Bucks vs Kyle and Kevin, Mox vs Davis, Mercedes vs Thekla, Andrade vs Ciampa, Trios best 2/3 falls, TBS 4 way all cooked. I even enjoyed Jericho vs Nick Wayne match despite not caring for this run right now lol. I think they’ll iron some things out for Clockwork Carnage as it happens more but overall really good.

Edit: HOW DID I FORGET ILJA his presentation was incredible, so excited for all these matches

21

u/WalterBeige 6h ago

I don’t think I’ve ever felt as much emotion watching a wrestling match as much as in the Mox Davis match. Really beautiful what they did and how they did it. Wrestling can be art sometimes

5

u/CasualSpider 6h ago

When done right, there is nothing better. AEW brought back that feeling for me like 6 years ago, and I haven't lost it since. Fan for life.

12

u/LanaDelReyGatito 6h ago

any clips of ricochet diving at samoa and missing? me and my nephew were cracking up at that 😂

7

u/itsmekelsey_x 6h ago

Not bad for a so called “filler” PPV right?

But big up’s to AEW though. All of plans had to be canceled going into it due to PAC’s unfortunate death but they managed to deliver with a really good one.

6

u/haz826 6h ago

Clockwork Carnage was messy but fun. Iron Survivor is still a better stip imo

11

u/GRTooCool 6h ago

Everyone really brought their A game tonight. Thank you AEW Wrestlers! There really is no way I can pick the top 3... but the clear #1 for me was FletchKnight vs Bucks.

Mercedes/Thekla, Nick/Jericho, Trios Match, Mox/Davis, MCMG/FTR, Clockwork Carnage, and even Andrade/Ciampa were all so great in their own ways.

22

u/Young_Cato_the_Elder 6h ago

I do wonder how Will Ospreay loses, and the answer is probably not for a very long time. He is in kayfabe (and to some extent in reality) heads and tails above everyone else at this point. The cheateriest Moxley with a ton of Death Rider interference, Omega and Okada, and this group of maniacs couldn't beat him.

1

u/ReflectionItchy2701 2h ago

I think the obvious answer is Kyle Fletcher with the help of Callum Newman.

1

u/xorangeelephant Mr. Royal Rumble 1h ago

I know people are really high on this idea, and not seeing it's bad, but I really don't see them booking Kyle to win the world title in the next 6 months

0

u/Senior-Rip2387 4h ago

MJF tricks moxley into joining the death riders.. and .. he actually joins death riders and uses them to get the title and then betrays them but then wants to join united empire to protect himself from death riders lol

4

u/Singer211 6h ago

I want it to be Fletcher.

2

u/AdotHam76 6h ago

I think after he beats everyone, he's going to want to challenge Hangman since that's the one person he didn't beat. Since Hangman will not be able to challenge for the world title, it will drive Will mad. I think it's possible we see a heel turn from him to force Hangman to go back on his word.

8

u/Jonoabbo 6h ago

I think the obvious solution is that we need a rising tide that raises all ships. Get the likes of Bailey, Ricochet, Takeshita, Fletcher, Knight, Ilja, etc rising to the main event scene.

3

u/Flat_Bug_3901 6h ago

It won’t be clean when he does lose it. Bank on that.

3

u/XAMdG 5h ago

Moné double champ.

23

u/LanaDelReyGatito 6h ago

fletcher 😎

2

u/GotenRocko 6h ago

With thier history the storyline would be great.

10

u/Klutzy_Chemist_3256 6h ago

Idk but I hope Fletcher gets a shot

6

u/liloutsider 6h ago

MJF is always inevitable. I could see it being Kyle Fletcher if they wait a long time

6

u/XAMdG 6h ago

Ospreay so high up that only the Devil can bring him down.

But I also could see Swerve with a little bit of crime beating him.

2

u/I_am_Amphibian 6h ago

Eh swerve and mjf are already multi time champions id rather other people get chances.

7

u/WanGod 6h ago

Swerve only won the belt once

2

u/I_am_Amphibian 6h ago

Really? Damn for some reason I thought he held it twice, won it once then lost it and then beat Joe for it

3

u/OpeningSorbet 5h ago

Yeah, the time he beat Joe for it was actually his first and only world title win - maybe you're thinking of his tag title reign?

3

u/DavidL1112 6h ago

Swerve beat Hangman non-title twice, then got 3rd in the C2, then beat Joe.

44

u/XAMdG 6h ago edited 6h ago

I think Clockwork Carnage could benefit a lot making it a Fall Counts Anywhere match. Stuff happening simultaneously, pins everywhere. Too many resting spots for wrestlers who were theoretically fresh imo.

7

u/doctorcornwallis CHAIRMAN 6h ago

I’d include a “no DQ” in the rules graphic next time.

I was expecting OT as soon as Excalibur explained the tiebreaker rule so I was a bit bummed if ended without a few more minutes of chaos with just the guys tied at 2.

I loved it and thought it was really fun. Just a tiny bit bummed it didn’t keep going.

7

u/CarStar12 6h ago

Thinking to matches like Anarchy in the Arena… I think it would fall into the “too much to capture” territory with FCA rules

9

u/Former_Intern_8271 6h ago

Yeah when it cut to Joe at the end and he was pissed off, as if he narrowly missed the win, it's like bro you weren't even in the ring for the last few minutes

18

u/Fidel_Costco Fashion Icon 6h ago

Might be a bit difficult to pull off, production wise.

4

u/XAMdG 6h ago

Yeah, you'd need to make it longer probably. They managed with the latest Stadium Stampede match tho.

3

u/Fidel_Costco Fashion Icon 6h ago

I think having that many cameras covering that many consequential pinfalls would make it really hard to pull off

35

u/Informal_Aspect_6330 6h ago

-You guys are gonna drive me nuts mentioning filler in every post

-Dunkzilla put up a hell of a fight

-Big D Mone remains uncircumcised

-Swerve is about to crashout

-Ciampa just want to put on bangers and do PWG shit

-Nick Wayne beat Jericho twice 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥

-Sorry Speedball

Hard pressed to find a match of the night with so many possible contenders, but I tip the hat to Mox and Davis, as I just love bloody slug fest matches. It was a perfectly paced "slow burn" match that turned into an inferno by the end. Moxley gave the babyface performance of the year for me, especially when Danny and Marina popped up to encourage him. The image of Mox crying, surrounded by the other five Riders was incredibly striking. The group dynamic really is unlike anything else right now.

Mark Davis has had so many set backs with his own injuries, tag partners or opponents getting hurt and changing his plans suddenly, and being the former tag partner of one of the hottest new stars in the company that I was very worried about him being lost in the shuffle. Holy hell Mark has had a fantastic year as an utter brute and this was, easily, his best match in AEW and my favorite of his that I've seen. He played the titan perfectly, truly no notes. I am so excited to see what is next for Davis, but I need to see a belt around his waist again soon.

Other favs were Thekla and Mercedes, Trios match, Tag team titles, and Clockwork Carnage, but there really was no bad match on the card. Pre show matches were all solid as well. Ilja's debut was the cherry on top.

Anyway, excellent show. This Deathriders shit is for life.

6

u/Fidel_Costco Fashion Icon 6h ago

Agreed on all points.

Davis has proven that he is capable of having excellent matches with anyone. Put them in the ring, he gets to work.

5

u/StewardFlavius 6h ago

I remember being extremely impressed when he was an entrant in the Survival of the Fittest match at Final Battle 2024, like "Oh, he's a great big man wrestler, I want to see more of him". And hot damn, he has delivered in spades. I'm so happy he has been given so many cool opportunities from being part of a tag team with Davis, to a trios title run, his national title run, wins over Ospreay and Moxley etc. TK clearly likes Davis a lot, and I can't blame him. Dunkzilla rocks.

1

u/Fidel_Costco Fashion Icon 6h ago

I want him to be built more as a legitimate threat.

One criticism I have of aew's booking is there's a lot of people on the cusp, but they never get past a certain point. I worry Davis is going to fall into that category.

2

u/luciferslarder 5h ago

I think Davis is finally getting through the uncertainty period regarding his injuries too. He’s had about as bad a hand of that in AEW as Jay White has, then Jake also went through it just after they started tagging.

But I def think he’s in a much better position to get pushed now

11

u/KnightsOfTomorrow 6h ago

Excellent PPV. Great crowd. The Bucks/FletcherKnight was MOTN. Clockwork Carnage was a lot of fun.

2

u/Klutzy_Chemist_3256 6h ago

Fun show overall but the main event was telegraphed, especially with the gimmick

5

u/roadwarriorpop 5h ago

Wouldn't a last minute singles main event match also be telegraphed as to who would win?

0

u/Klutzy_Chemist_3256 5h ago

Yeah it would. Idk how that detracts from what I said

0

u/blazingxbox 6h ago

Wnat was the gimmick? Genuinely curious

2

u/Fidel_Costco Fashion Icon 6h ago

I think he's referring to the match being a gimmick match

1

u/blazingxbox 6h ago

I gotcha
