The Way of Kings spoilers I just started reading the first book, here's a sketch of a chull with a carriage [OC] Spoiler

Post image
124 Upvotes

I've read the first ten chapters or so. I initially read the cytoverse books recommended by a friend and really enjoyed Sanderson's writing. Then that same friend kept talking about the cosmere and well... I picked up the way of kings. So far, even in just ten chapters, it has been awesome as expected. I love to draw, so I'll share some more sketches here of little things in the stormlight archive world I encounter and like to see visualised. Let me know if that's not welcome in this reddit (I'll use the proper spoilertags if applicable).

Sidenote: I feel akin to Shallan and her pull to drawing.

How I picture Rock. Most Rosharans have epicanthic folds, although most art I've seen doesn't picture them that way.

Will definitely re read before arc 2 but the first read is always the most special. Journey before destination.

Wind and Truth spoilers A small concern I have about the future of The Stormlight Archive Spoiler

• Upvotes

Spoilers for Wind and Truth

As we learn in Wind and Truth, Kaladin becomes a Herald and ends up in a situation where the Heralds’ minds are separated from their physical bodies.

First of all, I’m incredibly excited to see just how powerful Kaladin will be when we next see him, after spending so much time helping the Heralds heal their minds, training with them, and further honing his Surgebinding.

What worries me more, though, is that, as much as The Stormlight Archive has so many great characters, I feel like we’ve lost two of the series’ most beloved ones: Dalinar and Kaladin.

Obviously, Kaladin is still alive, but I honestly can’t see him returning to the main story for at least another two or three books. And that worries me a little, because when I was reading the series, I often found myself looking forward to Dalinar’s or Kaladin’s POV chapters, while reading the other characters’ storylines in the meantime.

I’m not saying those other storylines were bad by any means, but they just never grabbed me in quite the same way. Dalinar and Kaladin have always been my two favorite characters in the entire series, and I’m going to miss having them as a central part of the story.

Mid OB + MB Era 1 spoilers I love this man Spoiler

⚠️Mistborn era 1 spoilers⚠️

I just want to take a moment to appreciate how much Brandon has grown as an author. That weird love triangle between Elend Vin and Zane was executed so poorly I can only loosely call it a triangle. I straight up viewed Zane as like Vin’s evil conscience and nothing else 😅 I understood what Brandon was trying to do with that and he executed what all love triangles are supposed to: reflect the two sides of the person in the middle. But it absolutely did not accomplish that through romance by ANY stretch of the imagination 😂😂😂 Now here I am only halfway through the Stormlight Archives (on Oathbringer) and I’m foaming at the mouth about Kaladin Shallan and Adolin 😅 Frankly I think they’d be an AMAZING polycule and my husband wishes I’d shut up about it 🤪 I yearn for Shakadolin for purely romantic reasons 😭😭😭

MB Era 2 + RoW Ch 29 spoilers I need to vent about Rhythm of War Chapter 29 - in a positive way Spoiler

Omg omg omg.

So I read all of Mistborn Era 1 and 2 before starting on Stormlight Archive (I know not the proper way to do it but I was just loving Mistborn so much)

Omg, the chapter preludes in the second part of Rhythm of War! I’ve been waiting for Preservation and Ruin to show up. And they have! In Chapter 29 prelude it says:

I have begun searching for a pathway out of this conundrum by seeking the ideal person to act on my behalf. Someone who embodies both Preservation and Ruin. A…. sword, you might say, who can both protect and kill.

Sazed!!!! I know obviously Scadrial has been mentioned quite a lot and obviously Wit/Hoid, but this feels like something big!

I am freaking out!! One of my friends is on the final book of Mistborn Era 2 and I am already counting down the days till she gets to this point, but not having anyone to talk to about this is killing me!!!

Wind and Truth spoilers Question about the Wind in WaT Spoiler

At the end of the book when the oathpact was being reforged, it sounded like the wind had planned this from the start. This is way before anyone knew that dalinar would relinquish honor's power, breaking oaths doing so (disregarding cultivation planned it all theories) which would have been the pre requisite for reforging the oathpact. So my question is did the Wind plan for all of this or in some way knew this was going to happen?

It kept mentioning that kaladin would need to make a sacrifice and that the spren need a champion. Wit also said something similar like kaladin was needed elsewhere and he may not return but he was the most surprised dalinar gave up honor??

If the wind knew the events of what was going to happen long ago, shouldn't it just idk have told anyone about this?? Like did it want retribution to happen since it used to be apart of Ado so it wants to see shards merge back tgt?

Rhythm of War spoilers Gift for a stormlight fan Spoiler

My brother is currently reading RoW and he loves everything about the stormlight books. (as everyone I guess???)

So my brothers birthday is in 1,5 months and I am looking for a cool stormlight related gift.

Do you have cool merch suggestions? everything up to 50€ would be okay.

Thank you! ✨

Comment: I put the RoW spoiler tag as the gift should not have WaT spoilers but RoW is okay.

Wind and Truth spoilers What if Spoiler

I thought what if Shallan and Kaladin ended up together. How would it have affected the story?

Would we have seen the same Syl - Kal relationship?

I love the way it is but still wanted to see them together after the chasm scene.

ch. 5 The Way of Kings spoilers Am I missing something? Spoiler

I’m starting Way of Kings right and for some reason I just can’t seem to get into it? Can someone tell me if/when it gets good, or what to look out for (obv avoiding spoilers). The first Sanderson book I picked up was Final Empire, and in the month since then I’ve gone through both Mistborn eras, secret history, Tress, and Warbreaker. In all of those books, save maybe Tress, I got hooked pretty quickly. Obviously Mistborn and its associated work is all pretty incredible, so I figured I would indulge in Sando’s other flagship series. I just finished Warbreaker (as I was recommended to prior to starting Stormlight Archives), and I absolutely loved that book. It, like the Mistborn series, got me hooked almost instantly, and of course finished well.

The thing with WoK however, is that I feel overwhelmed and not super entertained. There was a prelude, and then a prologue, and still each page feels like it’s introducing a million new concepts, people and creatures, while I’m still trying to catch up. In the 5 or so chapters I’ve read so far (around 100ish pages) I haven’t really had a reason to keep going, other than pure intrigue as to why people say Stormlight is so good. I know I haven’t made it super far, considering the book is a thousand pages, but every page I read it feels more and more like I’m missing a book or novella that should’ve came before this, and I get even more confused.

The most interesting thing so far I guess is Kaladin’s character, but even with him it feels like I’m missing a lot. Idk man, it just feels like there are a bunch of things being thrown at me, and none of it really makes sense. At least in the other books I had a few core ideas to build on and then it expanded from there. In this it feels like I’m constantly getting introduced to new things that serve no purpose 2 or 3 pages later

TLDR: when does WoK/StormlighT Archive pick up, and what should I expect out of it?

Oathbringer spoilers Just finished Oathbringer and I loved it! But one thing disappointed me a bit. Spoiler

So at the climax, we're treated to an incredible assembly of the knights radiant, plus 2 heralds, making up all but one of the orders. When the 2 heralds join the rest, it feels like Dalinar's 'unite them' motif (along with uniting the realms) has finally paid off.

But then the heralds just... don't join in at the final battle and run away?

Again, I loved this book. It's my favourite so far in the series, which made this moment stick out even more. Anyone else feel the same way or have any defences for this? I've only just finished the book, so interested to know everyone's thoughts.

Wind and Truth spoilers Ars Arcanum Spoiler

Is there a Wind and Truth Ars Arcanum available online somewhere? It’s the only SLA book without one and as far as I know, that’s just because of how chonky it is, not for any lore reasons. Did Brando release it separate from the book online at some point, or is the Rhythm of War one just as good because of how close they are in the timeline?

Wind and Truth spoilers **Spoilers Wind and Truth** Ch. 20 question Spoiler

Okay so I have a question. In wind and truth I'm reading chapter 20 in the middle of it and it just struck me so I had to ask or I had to put this post in here because I had to ask. Don't put any spoilers I'll read it up later but don't put any spoilers just give me knowing looks. LMAO

The only reason that they're having a trouble is because the new odium is using a loophole etc etc but it's an Alethi law loophole. My question is why are they using a lefty law? The reason I ask, is because witness was made Dalinar is not the king of Alice car, he's the king of Urithiru. So shouldn't it be just his personal or his kingdom's law that applies? Why is Alethi being used? I think that's going to be a big plot point. Or just tell me I'm stupid or whatever LOL

No Spoilers Custom Glyph for my Car

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have my first project car in 8 years, I've named him essentially Sure Blood. "KaKuChi".

I did this by translating it to Japanese, using the words "Certain" and "Blood". Its a japanese car, This is the glyph im thinking. Plus I ran it through an AI to give it a more Caligraphy style. I would post this too if permited as I am no artist.

I like it was able to get a "Horse like" look without being to obvious.

Wind and Truth + RPG Lore Unmade + Surges? Spoiler

I recently re-read the entire series for like the 5th time, and I realized something about the Unmade. At least 3 of them are confirmed to have a surge.

Dai-Gornarthis: Transportation; This is supported not only by their actions at the second battle for Narak, but also by page 97 of the Roshar world guide.

Sja-Anat: Transformation; This is less clearly stated, but given that she literally changes spren, it seems to be obvious to me

Ba-Ado-Mishram: Regrowth; This is the weakest tie I can make, but in WaT, during the vision where Shallan is in the body of a Singer, we can see Mishram healing various Singers, something no other Unmade can seemingly do. She does not gain the ability to bond to the entirity of the Singers until after she takes up the power of Odium.

Anyways, I have been trying to dig and scratch my brain of how the other 6 surges Odium has access to can map to the unmade. Please feel free to tear apart my pondering, but I feel like there is something here. Below are my best guesses so far and their reasoning.

Ashertmarn: Gravitation? The pull of indulgence?

Chemoarish: Abrasion? I have nothing here, I just know Adhesion is for Honor and this is what I had left.

Moelach: Illumination? Showing visions of the future?

Nergaoul: Tension? Creating tension to lead to conflict?

Re-Shephir: Cohesion? The way she controls the midnight essence?(Yes I know the essence is controlled by its bond, I am reaching here)

Yelig-Nar: Division? The destructive power he brings to the battlefield?
