Preface: just finished chapter 82 of Oathbringer, The Girl Who Stood Up.
I am part of the camp of people who thought Adolin’s arc was among the most satisfying overall. As a side character, he’s just relatable enough that his progression through the story was fantastic (Especially in WaT).
But now that I’ve got a grip on the stupidly fun nonesense of the Cosmere, and am over the superhero power fantasy stuff (which I still love), I’m able to see so much more.
The way Adolin responds to Shallan when she comes backwearing veil’s costume and accepting her existence as a damaged human worthy of love and lifewas such a refreshing thing to read.
As an ADHDer who has made stupid mistakes in the past, and often feels like they have to hide themself from certain people and put up walls, I was already tearing up. But when Adolin came in and did what he did, my heart swelled. The dude is a literal prince.
I don’t usually reread books, but I TOTALLY get it now.

I have finished words of radiance.
I did not understand why Szeth was slave.
He was called thruthless by his people because they thought he lied about return of Radiants and voidbringers right ?
He was right, BUT even if he was lying, why should someone be slave because he lied ?
I didnt catch that.
Will there be explanation in next books ?

This is when Adolin is fighting the giant thunderclast in Azimir and holy fuck the fear/tension I can feel in my chest. I’m assuming it all gets way worse before anything gets better?

The simplified symbol for Roshar as a chainmail inlay, made out of aluminum rings. I made the pattern as well as the inlay.
It’s 8.75 inches tall and 5 inches wide.

Okay, I fear this may be the most controversial thing I'll ever say. But here goes.
I did not care much for Dalinar.
It's not that he's a bad character—he's an amazing *character*. "You cannot have my pain" is one of my favourite lines in all of fiction. It's just... Kaladin, Shallan, Navani, Adolin, Szeth, Renarin, Venli, I'd see that it was one of their chapters and I'd go "oh great! Let's see what they're up to!"
Then when it got to a Dalinar chapter, I'd go "ah... that's okay, I guess." Because sometimes they WERE good. But that's the thing: SOMETIMES. I can't think of a single time I was bored with all the other characters (well, maybe the Szeth interludes in the Way of Kings but that's IT)
And then when he died in Wind and Truth, I just kinda went "Oh noooo :(" then got over it really quickly.
Hopefully I don't get a mob after me for this.

I've read the first ten chapters or so. I initially read the cytoverse books recommended by a friend and really enjoyed Sanderson's writing. Then that same friend kept talking about the cosmere and well... I picked up the way of kings. So far, even in just ten chapters, it has been awesome as expected. I love to draw, so I'll share some more sketches here of little things in the stormlight archive world I encounter and like to see visualised. Let me know if that's not welcome in this reddit (I'll use the proper spoilertags if applicable).
Sidenote: I feel akin to Shallan and her pull to drawing.

Spoilers for Wind and Truth
As we learn in Wind and Truth, Kaladin becomes a Herald and ends up in a situation where the Heralds’ minds are separated from their physical bodies.
First of all, I’m incredibly excited to see just how powerful Kaladin will be when we next see him, after spending so much time helping the Heralds heal their minds, training with them, and further honing his Surgebinding.
What worries me more, though, is that, as much as The Stormlight Archive has so many great characters, I feel like we’ve lost two of the series’ most beloved ones: Dalinar and Kaladin.
Obviously, Kaladin is still alive, but I honestly can’t see him returning to the main story for at least another two or three books. And that worries me a little, because when I was reading the series, I often found myself looking forward to Dalinar’s or Kaladin’s POV chapters, while reading the other characters’ storylines in the meantime.
I’m not saying those other storylines were bad by any means, but they just never grabbed me in quite the same way. Dalinar and Kaladin have always been my two favorite characters in the entire series, and I’m going to miss having them as a central part of the story.

NO SPOILERS PLEASE!
Am I the only one who thinks Kaladin giving Moash the Shards instead of Teft was an incredibly rushed decision?
I understand that Kaladin and Moash have a special connection because of their shared hatred of lighteyes, and that Moash is one of the people Kaladin is closest to and the only one that is true to his loyalty rather than worshiping kaladin. But we’re talking about Shards here. This isn’t some minor reward. It’s an enormous amount of POWER, and Kaladin of all people should understand that for he is giving them up.
Teft seems like such an obvious choice to me. He’s a more experienced soldier, arguably a better leader, and has proven himself to be incredibly loyal. Sure, his relationship with Kaladin is different from Moash’s. He practically worships the guy at times, but that doesn’t make his loyalty any less genuine. If anything, I trust Teft’s loyalty and judgment considerably more than Moash’s.
What bothers me most is how quickly Kaladin seems to make the decision. This is a man who constantly worries about his men, their safety, and whether he’s making the right choices for them. Yet when he’s suddenly given the opportunity to turn one of them into a Shardbearer, he chooses Moash without seemingly giving Teft much consideration.
I don’t necessarily dislike Moash, either. I just genuinely cannot understand why Kaladin would consider him a better candidate than Teft.
Throughout the book I get this vibe that Moash will betray Kaladin and from a writing perspective giving him the shards sets him up to do that but it goes so against Kaladin’s personality. No spoilers please!

Will definitely re read before arc 2 but the first read is always the most special. Journey before destination.

How I picture Rock. Most Rosharans have epicanthic folds, although most art I've seen doesn't picture them that way.

Super strange crossover, but image Lift and Nimona from Nimona meeting.
They would be CHAOS.
It kinda clicked for me when I was watching the Nimona movie for the 5000th time, and this train scene came on, and Nimona referred to herself as being "Awesome". Which, knowing Lift...
Anyway, yeah. Hope this sparks some nice talk.
(Btw, I have only finished RoW at this point, so if anything happens later that affects Lift, just... don't worry about it)

Im reading Shadow of Self at the moment, about 40% in and I’m struggling.
The constant banter, the Marvel-like humour and action, and the way some characters feel exaggerated or overwritten are really starting to wear on me. And it’s not just Wayne. Even characters like Steris sometimes feel like their personalities are reduced to a handful of quirks that get emphasized over and over again.
What’s bothering me most is that it’s starting to affect my enthusiasm for Sanderson in general. Stormlight is by far my favourite fantasy series, and I still have Wind and Truth to read, which I’ve been looking forward to for a long time. But instead of feeling excited to get back into that world, I’m finding myself a little burnt out on his writing style.
I’m wondering whether I should push through or take a break before I end up souring myself on an author and a series I genuinely love.

She's currently going through characters, making a relationship sheet. Looks promising based on Tien's profile.

I read first books in like a week, now when i started the oathbringer i stopped enjoying reading it and i barely made it to 200th page. Idk how to find the will to keep reading, i would just hate leaving it unfinished because i adore the created world. I guess i just don’t like the execution in this book?
Edit: thank you all for the comments, i feel better knowing there are others alike. I will push through!

At the end of the book when the oathpact was being reforged, it sounded like the wind had planned this from the start. This is way before anyone knew that dalinar would relinquish honor's power, breaking oaths doing so (disregarding cultivation planned it all theories) which would have been the pre requisite for reforging the oathpact. So my question is did the Wind plan for all of this or in some way knew this was going to happen?
It kept mentioning that kaladin would need to make a sacrifice and that the spren need a champion. Wit also said something similar like kaladin was needed elsewhere and he may not return but he was the most surprised dalinar gave up honor??
If the wind knew the events of what was going to happen long ago, shouldn't it just idk have told anyone about this?? Like did it want retribution to happen since it used to be apart of Ado so it wants to see shards merge back tgt?

⚠️Mistborn era 1 spoilers⚠️
I just want to take a moment to appreciate how much Brandon has grown as an author. That weird love triangle between Elend Vin and Zane was executed so poorly I can only loosely call it a triangle. I straight up viewed Zane as like Vin’s evil conscience and nothing else 😅 I understood what Brandon was trying to do with that and he executed what all love triangles are supposed to: reflect the two sides of the person in the middle. But it absolutely did not accomplish that through romance by ANY stretch of the imagination 😂😂😂 Now here I am only halfway through the Stormlight Archives (on Oathbringer) and I’m foaming at the mouth about Kaladin Shallan and Adolin 😅 Frankly I think they’d be an AMAZING polycule and my husband wishes I’d shut up about it 🤪 I yearn for Shakadolin for purely romantic reasons 😭😭😭

Omg omg omg.
So I read all of Mistborn Era 1 and 2 before starting on Stormlight Archive (I know not the proper way to do it but I was just loving Mistborn so much)
Omg, the chapter preludes in the second part of Rhythm of War! I’ve been waiting for Preservation and Ruin to show up. And they have! In Chapter 29 prelude it says:
I have begun searching for a pathway out of this conundrum by seeking the ideal person to act on my behalf. Someone who embodies both Preservation and Ruin. A…. sword, you might say, who can both protect and kill.
Sazed!!!! I know obviously Scadrial has been mentioned quite a lot and obviously Wit/Hoid, but this feels like something big!
I am freaking out!! One of my friends is on the final book of Mistborn Era 2 and I am already counting down the days till she gets to this point, but not having anyone to talk to about this is killing me!!!

My brother is currently reading RoW and he loves everything about the stormlight books. (as everyone I guess???)
So my brothers birthday is in 1,5 months and I am looking for a cool stormlight related gift.
Do you have cool merch suggestions? everything up to 50€ would be okay.
Thank you! ✨
Comment: I put the RoW spoiler tag as the gift should not have WaT spoilers but RoW is okay.

I can't describe how I feel after that chapter, so cruel, so intense, so awesome to imagine. I suffered the whole thing with Kaladin. This book is amazing

I thought what if Shallan and Kaladin ended up together. How would it have affected the story?
Would we have seen the same Syl - Kal relationship?
I love the way it is but still wanted to see them together after the chasm scene.
