I'm pretty sure that tipping culture in America came directly out of the house slaves. the house sleeve would serve drinks to the master in his buddies... do an okay job, and the drunk white supremacist would throw the guy a shekel or two..
when slavery was abolished they continued this practice as a way to not have to pay the help as much... I'm pretty sure what I just said is true but I forget if it was or not. sounds correct.
