Best Affordable Cities in France for English-Taught Master’s Programs?

Hi everyone!
I’m planning to do my master’s in France and return to my home country after graduation, so job opportunities in France aren’t a priority. I’m looking for an affordable city (affordable regarding living cost and tuition) with public universities offering a wide range of English-taught master’s programs. So far, Toulouse, Grenoble, and Lille seem like good options. For those studying or living in France, what do you think of these three cities? Are there any other cities you’d recommend, and why?

Has Anyone Gotten Into Sorbonne University Without Submitting Their High School Transcripts? What Was Your Academic Background?

Hi everyone! I'm an international student who graduated from high school three years ago, and I'm hoping to apply for a bachelor's degree at Sorbonne University.

Unfortunately, my high school no longer has records of my grades from throughout those years, so I'm unable to obtain an official transcript.

I've come across a few posts on other platforms from students who were admitted without submitting their high school transcripts, and I'm wondering how common this actually is.

Has anyone here been in a similar situation? If so, I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience and academic background. I'm especially curious about how competitive your application was and what qualifications might have helped you get accepted.

Thanks in advance for any insights!

URGENT: EEF-Pastel Pre-Registration Certificate NOT available on my Campus France dashboard

I got my Campus-France confirmation a few weeks ago and have been unable to find the certificate they mentioned in the email they sent me. I followed the instructions and looked for the sections on the website that they named in the email, but I literally cannot find the PDF certificate anywhere on my dashboard or in my application stuff. What do I do?

These are the instructions they gave: "You will need to log back into your Etudes en France account to generate a PDF document, the EEF-Pastel Pre-Registration Certificate, which is required for your student visa application. Depending on your application type, this will be entitled ‘Confirmation d’acceptation’ or ‘Accord préalable d’inscription’. To find this document, log-in to your Etudes en France account. From the Welcome page, click on your application tab (either ‘Not Yet Accepted’ or ‘Already Accepted’ depending on your application type), and click on 1 – Finalize the procedure. The PDF icon will be under the « Select a Program » section. Download and print this document for your visa application and for your records."

As I'm writing this, the campus france website has also gone down. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction? This whole process has been so convoluted I could scream.

Doubt regarding Eiffel Scholarship for PhD (36 months)

Hi everyone,

I’m in a 5-year integrated Bachelor’s + Master’s programme in India and for my final-year master’s thesis, I’m currently doing a 10-month internship in France (May 2026 – March 2027). I am not officially enrolled at any French university. I’m still registered only as a student of my Indian institution. My internship is divided into two parts- a 6 month convention de stage and 4 month CDD.

I want to apply for the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship for a new PhD in France (I know that you have to first submit your application to the university). The guidelines say that students currently enrolled in a French higher education institution are not eligible. Since I’m currently residing and working in France but not enrolled at a French university, does this rule apply to me?

Has anyone been in a similar situation, or gotten clarification from Campus France or their host institution? Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Studying in France

Hi! I’m an IB student in NYC planning to study in France. My goal is medicine, so I’m looking into licences with accès santé, potentially Law or AES at Paris-Saclay.
I’m currently considering Paris-Saclay, Paris Cité, Nanterre and Montpellier.
I’d ideally like to live in Paris intramuros, but some universities are quite far from central Paris. I’m used to NYC public transport, so a one-hour commute doesn’t bother me too much.
Which university would you recommend for accès santé, and would living in Paris while studying at Paris-Saclay or Nanterre be realistic? I’d love to hear your experiences!

Would it be better to work before applying for a masters in france?

I'm a current 2nd year, non eu, math student doing my bachelors. I wish to move to france for studies, initially i wanted to do polytech and enter the 3A parcours directly after my 2nd year here but i don't think that'll be possible for next year because my finances don't allow it. And I also wanted to get some research experience abroad before doing my masters so I'm not really sure if I should work first after completing my 3rd year here, maybe for a year then apply for polytech, especially since the polytech network is usually in bigger cities and rent will probably be higher. Or maybe i could take a loan after doing my bsc and use that to apply to a normal masters instead of aiming for the diplôme d'ingénieur. Any advice?

I am currently a young entrepreneur, and I am creating a corporation that targets to help everyone to come to France for studying, working or other purposes.

It will be working like IA is for the administration and the human for the rest.

I have some questions to help me to improve my service to help you to come easier to France.

If you have 5 minutes, it is really quick:

Hiii! I’m planning to apply to Paris 1 and TSM this year (Licence and Bachelor’s program)

I'd want to know more about how competitive the admissions are and what kind of profiles successful applicants had in previous years.

If anyone’s comfortable sharing their stats or application experience, rly appreciate it !!

Btw, i cant find the 27/28 L1 application information for Paris 1, it doesn’t show up on EEF either. Does anyone else having the same issue :(

Single name applicants, how do you handle the surname field on Études en France?

Hi! Has anyone applied to French universities through Campus France with only one name on their official documents?
The Études en France application requires a surname, and I’m unsure how to fill it in without creating inconsistencies with my passport and academic documents.
What did you enter in the surname field, and did you face any issues later during admissions or the visa process?can I copy my first name as my second name in the field?
Would really appreciate advice from anyone who has dealt with this. Thanks!

Extremely Unprofessional and Disappointing Experience with EduStay – Gaurav

My experience with Gaurav from EduStay has been deeply disturbing. His behaviour made me feel that he was crossing professional boundaries and showing inappropriate interest in young female students. As students coming to Paris from abroad, we deserve to feel safe and respected, not taken advantage of because we are new to the city and unfamiliar with the system.

Student accommodation should be about safety, trust, and professionalism.

Based on my experience, I would strongly advise other students to do their due diligence before choosing accommodation through him. We come to Paris to study and build our futures, not to deal with this kind of behaviour.

Advice on choosing between MSc Human Resource Management in France (SKEMA) or the UK (Aston / Queen’s Belfast)? Any recommendations for January intake?

Hi everyone!

I'm currently deciding where to pursue my MSc in Human Resource Management and would really appreciate some advice from people who have studied at these universities or have experience studying and working in either country as an international student.

1. France – SKEMA Business School

I'm quite interested in SKEMA because the modules look really interesting, particularly those related to technology, data, and HR. The curriculum seems more aligned with the direction I want to pursue in my career.

However, I have a few concerns:

  • What's student life at SKEMA like, especially in terms of workload, teaching quality, and the overall student experience?
  • How difficult is it to get good grades? Is the academic workload manageable?
  • Is it realistic to find a part-time job in Paris as an international student without speaking French?

2. UK – Aston University vs Queen's University Belfast

I'm also considering Aston and Queen's Belfast. Their modules seem okay, but they appear to be more theory-oriented, with less emphasis on technology and data-related HR topics compared with SKEMA.

The tuition fees are around £20,000, which feels quite expensive to me, especially when comparing the universities' rankings and SKEMA's position as a business school.

On the other hand, I feel that finding a part-time job might be more achievable in the UK, although I'd love to hear about other people's actual experiences. The UK visa application process has also been quite stressful and unpredictable, which is another factor I'm considering. :(

My main priorities are:

  • A practical, relevant curriculum that can support my long-term career in HR, particularly in tech companies.
  • Reasonable tuition fees and living costs.
  • Opportunities to work part-time while studying.
  • A good overall student experience and a qualification that will be valuable for my career back in Vietnam.

I'd also really appreciate recommendations for other universities offering a relevant master's programme with a January intake, preferably a one-year programme in HRM or a related field. I'm open to considering other schools in France or the UK if you have any suggestions!

And if you're currently studying at SKEMA or have graduated recently, I'd really love to connect and ask a few questions about your experience. Feel free to comment or send me a DM. I'd be very grateful for any insights!

Would you choose SKEMA for its curriculum, or lean towards the UK options for the overall experience and potential job opportunities?

Thanks so much for your help!
