Discussion PSA to anyone considering Charles Heating and Air, don't.

Last winter we told them several times there was a strange smell coming from the vents with the heat on. Multiple techs AND a manager came out to "address the issue" by gaslighting us and telling us there was nothing wrong. Finally this season we called a different company and the tech walked around the house and found the issue within seconds. He was appalled Charles hadn't noticed it. The intake and exhaust vents were inches apart facing down in the same direction so that when the wind blew slightly the exhaust was sucked back into the house. We had been breathing in harmful exhaust for AN ENTIRE WINTER. It wasn't an ideal fix but we added some PVC pipe to the intake to move the intake further away from the exhaust. No more smell. Problem fixed. It only took another company giving enough of a shit to walk around the house.

Previously they flooded our basement with a disconnected condensate tube, missed gas leaks despite checking, and straight up refused to check the flue cap on the roof to see why the flue pipe was rusty (water was getting in cause the cap was in fact messed up). We spent thousands purchasing a water heater and furnace from them and all it took was less than $200 with the other company to fix everything they missed.

Please for the love of god do not give these people your money this winter, avoid the big names and find a smaller company that cares about keeping your business.

Other Anyone want to start the Artist’s Way?

I did the Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron over twenty years ago and it changed my life. I’m in a rut and have decided to pick the book up again. Anyone interested in joining me? We’d not need to meet in person - could simply check in via email or Zoom.

Friday night was exactly what Fire & Friends was all about!
We brought people together for games, a treasure hunt, s’mores, and a little friendly competition. What started as a group of people who barely knew each other turned into a night of laughter, new connections, and even plans to hang out again! 🥹
Making friends as an adult isn’t always easy, but sometimes all it takes is showing up. ❤️
A huge thank you to everyone who came out and to Freight Yard Brewing for hosting us!
Here’s to more nights like this! ✨

Recommendation Wanted Kitten in backyard - Help!

I live in Syracuse and while helping my next door neighbor clean out her shed we discovered a 1-2 week old kitten hidden nearby. Unfortunately the kitten’s two siblings have passed, so we don’t want to leave it where it is.

Every SPCA / animal shelter in the area seems to be closed. Can anybody help me get in contact with a professional to make sure this lil guy makes it through the night? Thank you.

I have a broken PVC pipe in my garage connected to my main sewer line and my ejector pit that needs to be replaced. Had Hummingbird out and they quoted me $1844, which seems insane to me for a broken pipe. Does that estimate seem fair? Can anyone recommend a better option? Much appreciated.
