Superman could pull a galaxy behind his back no problem but had trouble lifting an overweight Lois Lane.

The funny part is that he was actually the one who caused her to became fat in the first place and only pretended he doesn't know it's her. He's an asshole for the love of the game here.

How? Im genuinely curious about the story

He altered a plant growth ray to also work on humans.

He did this because Lois was the only witness to a murder and Superman made her fat so the killer wouldn't be able to recognise her.

The best part is that the killer still figures out that it's her because he sees her standing in front of a funhouse mirror that makes her look skinny.

The man who puts on a pair of glasses as a disguise thinks he needs to do all that

Lois has worked with Clark for years. If Superman gave her an accessory to obscure part of her face, and it worked, she would figure out his secret identity immediately.

That's an advanced level disguise skill, Lois wasn't ready for that.

I'm like 60% sure those glasses are like special magic hypnosis glasses that don't alter his appearance, but somehow coax people into not connecting the dots that they're so similar looking

That is canon these days, but personally I don't like it. As much as people make fun of the glasses as disguise thing, they aren't the only part of the disguise. Clark's mannerisms and personality are also part of the disguise. He goes out of his way to seem too meek and awkward to be a hero. In All-Star Superman, Superman straight up says to Lois "I'm Clark Kent btw" and Lois finds the idea so laughably absurd that she assumes Superman is trying to prank her. That's the disguise. I don't think the hypnosis glasses are necessary at all.

Well at least it (the glasses) explains the visual similarities. Yes, the mannerisms matter to people who know him, but if you're on the street and see someone whose face and build look identical to superman's you don't really think about the man's mannerisms that much, especially when it's someone working for the only news agency that superman does interviews with

The persona is important, but so are the "hypnosis glasses" imo

Not really. There's a psychology thing to it, I think it's actually called the Superman effect. Most people know that Superman is an alien, so they don't expect him to have a secret identity. He lives in the arctic, in his Fortress of Solitude. Why would he need to go around dressed as a mild mannered reporter? It never even crosses most people's minds. It's like how Frodo and Sam were able to sneak through Mordor in tLotR. "One does not simply walk into Mordor". It's such an absurd idea that no one even thinks of it. And since no one thinks of it, it works

Though something like facial recognition software would still be a problem that needs to be addressed.

Well you're kind of correct. The part that you're not quite right about (at least in some continuities) is which alter ego is the disguise. He doesn't go out of the way to seem meek and awkward, that's just who he is. Superman is the disguise. He puffs out his chest and speaks in large grandiose "I'm here to save the day!" But his real identity is the awkward farm boy who loves his Ma

I mean that's true, Clark Kent has been considered the real him since at least the 80s, but I still feel like he exaggerates his awkwardness to some degree to make the idea of him being Superman seem even less likely.

That sounds like all he did was make her a bigger target, literally.

Being so afraid for your life you have to gain tons of weight to avoid being recognized but still go out to the Carnival.

The fun house mirror thing is kinda funny though

Iirc some kind of a criminal was targeting Lois. Superman used some kind of tech to change Lois body into becoming so fat that she was unrecognizable and to ensure nobody will think it's the same person he also acted like he doesn't know who she is. After the danger stopped he revealed everything to her and that it was all easy to reverse.

“Hmm, who can we get to run an ad on this story about someone gaining a hundred pounds? Oh, Tootsie Roll, perfect!”
