Hated Tropes [HATED] Adaptations done intentionally without help from the source

Halo TV show: Before the show came out, the writers were praising their decision to not look to the games for inspiration when making the show

God Of War TV show: Chris Judge, the actor of Kratos in the games from 2018-Now, spoke up about his dislike on the show not hiring anyone who worked on any of the previous games. One of the original creators of Kratos also spoke up about them not having faith in the adaptation.

Supergirl 2026 film: the director for the film not only said he decided to not read Woman Of Tomorrow, the comic the film is adapting, because he wanted to do his own thing, he also didn’t look at comic art for inspiration to design Lobo and instead used an AI image generator to design Lobo’s look for the film

The Witcher famously did this, with writers openly bragging about it. They unfortunately fumbled several key themes of the books and games to produce a bland, generic fantasy show that was blatantly written by committee and for some reason reversed the age gap between Geralt and Yen to make Yen barely an adult.

Henry Cavill ended up leaving as a result of all this and certain people tried to imply it was because he was a chud bigot misogynist. Lots of women hed worked with came forwards to defend him and it became increasingly clear he quit because the show was dogwater.

It’s always impressive to me how people continue to just spread fake internet rumors and truth about Witcher. Some grifter just tweets some made up shit and everyone just assumes it’s true and doesn’t fact check anything. Like 90% of everything you said never happened lol

He's right on the fact they tried, to make him the evil guy after he left

Nope. A random person on Twitter claimed it with zero evidence. So they quite literally in fact didn’t lol. Please stop believe every weird thing some grifter tells you.

So, then why did Cavill leave?

His contract was up and didn’t want to renew it and wanted to do other things. He’s never said specifically why. He had signed on to come back as Superman and was in talks to run, produce, and star in the 40k universe. He likely just didn’t care about the show enough to do it over being Superman and 40k (a series he loves more than anything in the world).

Not everything is a big controversy lol

He left because he didn't renew the 3 year contract, and was taking on a different job for a Warhammer adaption. It's a thing actors do.

Man it's crazy how the responses getting downvoted are just pointing out Henry Cavill fired by the nefarious showrunners for loving Witcher too much was an online outrage-fantasy with no actual corroboration. The only direct information we've ever gotten was Cavill wanted to pursue other projects, and people upset by the adaption's low quality have stapled a saucy telenovela drama over it to circlejerk over.

Let’s just say everyone agreed he could and should, both sides were done.

You're the one making shit up, a podcast aired and made claims and statements from people on the witcher-flix team and smeared cavill, which was picked up and published in tons of gossip, celebrity, TV, and video game news sites. Is that you, Lauren pissrich?

Begging you to take a second look at this conversation, because this is exactly how every single random bit of conspiracy theory and misinformation spreads online.

Person A: [Cavill being fired or forced out as an act of deliberate spite] is an unsubstantiated rumor, people repeat it uncritically online to add personal drama to an otherwise mundane and disappointing part of actors coming and going from projects.

Person B: You made that up. There was a podcast that cited someone on cast/crew who said negative things about Cavill.

This doesn't actually mean anything. Finding hearsay of a rando who spoke negatively of Cavill does not then swim upstream to become evidence of Cavill was forced out in a messy scandal then slandered negatively online to cover up the actual nefarious activities of showrunners, this how conspiracy theorists try to sell you on outlandish theories without having to interact with evidence.  There isn't and never was evidence Cavill was forced from the role, and the urge to make a dramatized narrative of clashing visions and noble artist vs villainous hater is falling into the same pattern as 'facebook commenter who reads headline and immediately gets upset over an imagined scenario without reading the story'.
