Mod Announcements Toronto Municipal Election Campaign Activities Memo - PLEASE READ

Elections are upon us. Candidate sign-up began May 1, 2026.

As a neutrally-moderated Toronto sub, we do not moderate based on political bias or ideology. As such we will apply rules equally to all campaign and election-related posts.

Many candidates and groups are likely coordinating online 'opinion' influence campaigns which may or may not include posting in this sub and other Toronto-related subs.

As such some additional ground rules (which may be relaxed at times) will be in place.

Any posts related to the election, candidates, third-parties, campaign activities, candidates, ads, social media clips, rumours must be newsworthy or include substantive sourcing.

As such all election and campaign related contributions are permitted only if they are accompanied by a link to a reputable news media source covering it as a story or include substantive sourcing.

All other posts about the election, candidates, campaigns, ads, rumours, smears, spamming about one candidate will be strictly moderated and may be removed without notice.

Contributions (posts and comments) containing claims about the election candidates or campaign-related activities must include substantive sourcing.

General election or campaign related posts that do not add substantive discussion material will be locked/removed.

If you are part of a campaign, related to a candidate, a candidate yourself, aspiring candidate, volunteer to a campaign, part of a third-party advertiser, community advocacy group, part of a campaign discord server or the like, or similar to the above, you must disclose that if you are contributing in posts and comments related to campaign activities.

If you are still unsure about what is permitted, please contact the Toronto_Ontario Mod Team through modmail.

Please read rules and posting requirements for this sub. Please become familiar with how we moderate.

All Toronto election-related info is available here.

This may be updated as necessary and will be indicated by an update tag at the top.

Mod Announcements Welcome! Please Read Before Posting - Rules and Requirements.

Updated 06/2026

Welcome to r/Toronto_Ontario! The fastest growing Toronto subreddit!

PLEASE READ THE RULES

This community is intended to provide an open, respectful space to discuss the happenings in the city of Toronto.

We’re glad you are here!

BASICS

We have an account age and karma minimum.

Our auto-moderator will remove content from accounts that do not meet the age or karma threshold.

Join if you post often. If you don't, the system may hold (filter) all your comments.

We don't moderate based on bias or unstated rules. We encourage all to contribute meaningfully.

We're crossing guards with stop signs, not activists with signs telling you how to think.

WHY

Toronto is an amazing place of glitz and grit, complexity and conformity, controversy and cohesion, passion and compulsion.

This sub aims to embody all of it. Left, right, centre, non-aligned, moderate, snarky, sarcastic, cringe, ecstatic, depressed, dour and delightful. Expect a cross-section of opinions here.

GENERAL TONE AND CONDUCT

You can be snarky and sarcastic, but avoid being over-the-top insulting.

Given "be civil" is a common rule across most subs, if you want your comment to actually appear, BE CIVIL.

Your tone should be similar to that in a bar or at a dinner table. Heated discussion is fine. Being vicious or insulting is not.

If your comment would warrant a punch in the face in-person, do not post it here.

You can get your point across without name-calling or being disparaging.

Don't be obnoxious or inflammatory with your first posts here. We crack down hard on those.

No brigaders or crusaders (monotone posters about one thing).

Freedom of expression is a core principle here.

But enforcement of rules is maxed too.

AUTO-MODERATION

As stated, we have an account age and karma minimum. Our auto-moderator will remove content from accounts that do not meet the threshold.

This is to prevent alts, bots, brigades and ban-circumvention. The minimums are set at reasonable levels. They are not hard to meet.

We may review removed posts and approve them when we get a chance.

Crowd-control might be engaged on some threads which will be indicated by a stickied comment at the top. The Auto-moderator will filter more aggressively in these threads and will involve a more strict application of the rules (one-strike may apply).

The auto-mod will typically also flag your post if you're insulting or incendiary and the reddit algo may downgrade your account site-wide. Additionally, your comment might get automatically 'held' or removed by Reddit (never seen). So have opinions, but avoid insults.

ACTIVE MODERATION

We try to be as hands-off as possible as long as meaningful conversation is happening. We rarely lock threads.

Don't be a pest. Don't make work for the mods anywhere. Don't whine about the sub or its moderation. Do not misuse the reporting function. Keep content specific to Toronto and the thread's subject matter.

First-time participants will have rules applied more stringently.

If you contribute in good-faith but your posts are received as unpopular, we may even green-list you so you don't catch bad-karma automod-filters. We appreciate all good-faith debates regardless of position.

We never "shadowban". We only ban for breaking stated rules.

We are generally lax about what is said unless it violates the stated rules.

We generally have a three-strikes rule. Violate the rules three times, you're gone permanently.

We generally have a one-strike rule in crowd-controlled threads.

Promotion of external projects, outside links, and anything intended to redirect traffic or collect data is generally prohibited.

If you're still unsure, get clarity by sending us a modmail.

If you choose to send us a modmail, please keep your tone courteous. We always try to do the same.

=xx=

This will change as needed.

Enjoy, contribute, and tell us what you think!

Long time area resident - my thoughts on Bloor St and a prediction, post bike lanes.

• Upvotes

I've lived in the Kingsway for 30+ years. I'm retired now so I get to walk my dog every day for 2-3 hours a day. I walk from Jane to Islington, Eglinton to Queensway. The reason for the context is I have watched how traffic patterns have changed over the years.

The big change is, of course, volume. Just look at the arterial roads, particularly Dundas and Bloor and notice the number of condo buildings that have gone up in the last 20 years. The worst street for volume increase is Dundas. It's an awful street to walk on. From 8:00 to 9:30am and 3:00 to 6:00pm it's a solid wall of cars going in both directions. Eastbound is particularly awful as you have the Scarlett Rd intersection which gets backed up with cars heading north. At non-rush times, it's basically a highway. Cars drive very fast, especially over the Humber bridge.

Bloor St., OTOH, has become a welcome respite from the noise, pollution and stress of Dundas and I think it's because of the bike lanes. They offer a buffer between the sidewalk and the cars. Because it's only two lanes of traffic, cars tend to not drive as fast as on a straight, 4 lane road. Even the Humber bridge, which used to one of the police dept's favourite speed traps, is civilized.

The bike lanes will be gone in a few weeks and I predict that a lot of Dundas traffic is going to divert to Bloor St. Bloor will become as bad as Dundas. The awful traffic will spread like a cancer. And those cars, they won't be stopping to shop in The Kingsway. No, they are just passing through, as fast as possible.

I am saddened that I will no longer be able to enjoy a coffee at the Cafe Rouge sidewalk tables because cars will be 18" from me.

It will take some time but in few years, the honeymoon will be over, the traffic will get worse and we're going to wish we never removed those bike lanes.

Rant Threatened by r/Toronto Mods

Two days ago I posted a CP24 article linking to an individual who was removing Ted Optiz and Brad Bradford election signs. It was removed by the mods of r/Toronto.

I reposted it in this sub, and received a ban and a threat from the Mods of r/Toronto.

I haven’t been rude, I haven’t done anything wrong other than post a CP24 news article.

Is this normal?

Toronto Election Brad Bradford's $6B campaign promises

I know people here loved seeing Bro Bradford screaming at Olivia Chow during the TVO debate but it also stopped her from answering a question he was demanding from her: how she came up with $6 Billion on how much his shit would cost. I decided to take a crack at it based on numbers I could find from city and official news reports.

What Bradford intends to spend

  • $205M a year for TTC platform edge doors. City feasibility study citing $4.1B over 20 years.
  • He wants to pay all capital projects with debt financing instead of collecting funds upfront and proposed 4% annual interest payments. 4% of $205M is $8.2M a year.
  • $140M per year to hire 1000 additional police officers based on their 2026 hiring budget of hiring 143 cops for $20M in 2026. This doesn't factor in annual salary increases.
  • $75.6M a year for the 4% interest to pay for water-based capital projects that are costed at $18.9B over next 10 years since he wants to debt finance.
  • $10M in refunds to TTC riders whenever the service is delayed as per his pitch based on conservative guess of 1% of all trips being delayed by 15+ minutes from fares collected in 2025. This number is higher if more trips are delayed.
  • $10M for the police substation at Union Station. I'm estimating 25% of the cost of a full police station, which was $40M in 2011.
  • $4M to remove Scarborough rapid bus lanes, based on Eglinton East costs. This would be higher if he also rips out Bathurst and Dufferin.
  • $3.5M for consulting services by KPMG or equivalent for Bradford's line-by-line review based on what city paid for Rob Ford's gravy train report. Likely much higher since this rate was from 2011-2013.
  • $305K to rename Sankofa Square based on what it cost to change it from Yonge Dundas Square.

Revenues Bradford plans on slashing

  • $792.6M in lost revenue per year from eliminating municipal land transfer tax based on 2025 figures
  • $75M in 2027 of lost property tax revenue due to freezing residential property taxes based on 2026 figure of $3.747B, assuming 2% inflation.
  • Bradford wants to keep property tax increases in the next three years after his first at below inflation. Assuming even just 1% is knocked off, that's $37.5M per year.
  • $31.225M from 25% reduction to industrial property tax based on 2% share of $6.245B levy.

So based on this, if Bradford is elected, he wants to spend an additional $1.743B while reducing revenues by $3.52B over his four year term. That's roughly $5.26B. Not quite $6B but I also didn't factor in things like other capital projects with additional debt financing, police salary increases for the additional cops, or costs to hire someone to manage the new water corporation.

If you feel like these numbers aren't accurate and can cite better examples, feel free to contribute.
