The reason Rodimus is hated is because of Hasbro. Prime had to die, so that Rodimus could become the new Prime. Now people usually need some time to accept that their favorite character has been replaced. But if you give them the idea that said new character is the reason the old one died, then the new character won't be very popular. The writing failed Rodimus in a big way, and it didn't help in the slightest that they brought Optimus back.

Bee: Optimus came back after he led a team for 5 minutes
Elita: literally was going to steal the matrix until Optimus gave it to her, then she proceeds to disown people who remain loyal to him.
