Rodimus: Did nothing wrong people misplaced anger

Smokescreen: never actually succeeded him

Bee: Optimus came back after he led a team for 5 minutes

Elita: literally was going to steal the matrix until Optimus gave it to her, then she proceeds to disown people who remain loyal to him.

I agree.

In my opinion Rodimus did nothing wrong. His leadership was during a peaceful time where there would have been more diplomacy not war which is why he thought OP would be better but OP would probably have had the same doubts.

u/Palmer132YT FEMALES? I thought they were extinct! Apr 17 '26

You gotta feel bad for Rodimus because he probably only knew war for the entirety of his life

90

u/Slimeredit Apr 18 '26

Rodimus also can perform amazingly in a diplomatic role as we see through his tenure as autobot leader he not only forged alliances with multiple planets and was willing to work with blitzwing

82

u/NumericZero Apr 18 '26

Big agree on Rodimus Him and Kup were awesome together as a duo Old head and Rookie leader always make for great chemistry

And

That Elita one is so wild to me

She deadass pressed him till he said “Fine..here” then one of her first orders as leaders is “follow me or get out of the squad” Like what 😭😭

29

u/Nox_The_Overlord Apr 18 '26

I think the Smokescreen one is why he's on this list. Because of the potential and the tease but no follow through

8

u/Square-Newspaper8171 Apr 18 '26

Eh, after the movie, Rodimus' character takes a huge nosedive

3

u/DevinLucasArts Apr 18 '26

At least Bee never lost command. Optimus was pretty adamant about that from what I recall.

3

u/Palmer132YT FEMALES? I thought they were extinct! Apr 18 '26

He literally argues with Optimus in the show about command structure

1

u/Several-Ad1231 Apr 23 '26

Yet another pointless example of character assassination.

3

u/ExcellentEssay3282 Apr 18 '26

Bee had a team for a whole season, then OP came in the season 1 finale. Then he left with his own team in season 2 whilst Bee led his own, then returned in the finale where he tried to lead again but gone in an argument. Then in the final season OP only appears for a handful of episodes. Your point kinda stands but OP was still kinda gone for the first 24 episodes of season 1 which was a good chunk of time for Bee to lead.

The reason Rodimus is hated is because of Hasbro. Prime had to die, so that Rodimus could become the new Prime. Now people usually need some time to accept that their favorite character has been replaced. But if you give them the idea that said new character is the reason the old one died, then the new character won't be very popular. The writing failed Rodimus in a big way, and it didn't help in the slightest that they brought Optimus back.

u/Adept_Animator_2876 Apr 18 '26

Rodimus after the movie was a bit bad due to him whining and complaining, smoke screen he’s alright, RID bee had potential but it was simply ruined, Elita…i honestly don’t know the context of skybound.

1

u/Palmer132YT FEMALES? I thought they were extinct! Apr 18 '26

Dawg he was a ground troop who got thrust into the position of king

0

u/Adept_Animator_2876 Apr 18 '26

Yeah, but if you complain every episode I would lose sympathy over time.

u/Roisepoise101 Apr 17 '26

Can’t wait for Elita to loose it all.

91

u/Significant_Camera47 Apr 18 '26

Them bringing back Optimus in RID after his beautiful sacrifice in the finale of TFP was dumb (also hate how they written him) 🥀

54

u/Several-Ad1231 Apr 18 '26

99% of RID was dumb. So much of even the best of it was based upon tearing down good things from Prime.

32

u/Significant_Camera47 Apr 18 '26

Also Soundwave trying to destroy earth to alert Megatron doesn’t make sense given that Megatron RETIRES at the end of TFP 😭🥀

33

u/Several-Ad1231 Apr 18 '26

He wouldn't know that since he was on Earth, but that doesn't matter. It isn't even consistent with when he tried that same scheme in Season 2. His original design in that very season wouldn't have destroyed the planet and as far as he knows Megatron explicitly wanted Earth in one piece to conquer.

Atleast the Artstyle was cool though

It's probably an bias on my end since RiD introduced me to transformers, but it's honestly one of my fave 3D animated projects artstyle wise.

The Artstyle alone is doing most of the heavy work for RiD, and I think that it does make up for most of the more worse aspects of the show.

8

u/Spirited_Airline6206 Apr 18 '26

If I had a nickel for everytime Hasbro made a sequel series connect to the previous popular one & screw up the canon, I'd have 2 (MLP G5 & RiD).

Hell there's probably more that I'm missing.

My issue with Elita Prime is the same as Arcee Magnus.

Had potential to give them a cooler new name, and didn’t. Just slapped Magnus/prime at the end. Hell the designs aren’t even that different either. Elita’s design sucks

59

u/CesarGameBoy Soundwave: Superior Apr 18 '26 edited Apr 18 '26

“Elita” already kinda sounds like the name of a Prime to begin with lol. Being based around the word “Elite,” which means Elita Prime literally translates to “Best Best.”

But I do get what you mean. It’d be like saying “Starscream Prime” instead of like “Stellar Prime” or something.

18

u/sansywastakenagain Apr 18 '26

Stellar Prime should have been the name of AOTP Star Convoy. I've maintained this opinion since the figure was revealed.

26

u/BhanosBar Me no flair, me king Apr 18 '26

Idk man. People been waiting for years for someone like Elita to take up the role of Prime and it was pretty rushed and lackluster here. Hell her design is just Elita with back wings.

8

u/arseniccattails I'm not splittable Apr 18 '26

Prime also means one. Elita's name has the same construction as Optimus's to begin with.

3

u/NoChampionship1167 Apr 18 '26

Honestly Elita is like the only character I see keeping her regular name after upgrading.

1

u/Blue_Jay_Raptor Me no flair, me king Apr 23 '26

It’d be like saying “Starscream Prime” instead of like “Stellar Prime” or something.

Actually if Starscream had an Prime name it'd either be:

  • Saggitarius Prime or Supernova Prime (referencing how Supernovas are basically "Stars screaming when they die")
  • Stellaris Prime (reads better than Stellar Prime)
  • Stellaris Scream (would basically be him using his own name over the "Prime" name)

15

u/sansywastakenagain Apr 18 '26

Arcee really should have been called Arcana Magnus

4

u/fknhatewhities Apr 18 '26

Just saw a piece of arcee magnus fanart titled Arcana Magnus, and i thought that name sounded so cool. Skybound writers missed an opportunity there

Im also really hyped to see more of Arcee/Arcana Magnus, since the magnus title feels earned in her case.

Elita Prime though... i dunno. I'm hesitant to read the new issues with her in it. Given the way she was written in the beginning of the series, I'm not optimistic about her tenure as prime.

2

u/sansywastakenagain Apr 18 '26

Pretty sure the name Arcana Magnus comes from an interview about the POTP vote. From what I've heard, the designers were asked about what name would've been given to Arcee if she won, and they answered with Arcana Magnus. Dunno how true it is, I've just heard it repeated a few times in this sub.

4

u/fknhatewhities Apr 18 '26

Oh cool! Even its not true, its a cool head canon to have. I just hope the skybound writers find a way to work that nane into it (even thoughi know they wont)

15

u/NumericZero Apr 18 '26

I kinda accept Arcee a bit more because it’s a role Arcee as a character hasn’t really been in and the “level up” felt more natural

Way more natural at least compared to Elita

Big agree on Desgin tho All they really did was give rhem bigger shoulders and a sorta new headpiece for

4

u/BhanosBar Me no flair, me king Apr 18 '26

Im mostly good with Arcee but I cannot forgive Elita.

8

u/tornedron_ Our worlds are in danger! Apr 18 '26

“Arcee Magnus” implies Ultra Magnus’ name was just Ultra

Andromeda Prime could've been real

Or heck, Icarus Prime

22

u/megosonic Apr 18 '26 edited Apr 18 '26

Random thought, I wonder if Heatwave could be considered a worthy successor

19

u/BazingaTrainZ Apr 18 '26

Not directly to prime, But he would be a good envoy for Cybertronians to Earth, and Earth to Cybertronians.... Oh wait a second He IS

11

u/RRY1946-2019 Apr 18 '26

Or he would be if the Griffin Rock powers that be didn't let the Rescue Bots serve openly as aliens.

8

He is very worthy and I'm totally not biased or anything towards my husband 😌

19

Let's be honest Optimus is a tough act to follow.

32

u/Edgoscarp Me no flair, me king Apr 17 '26

Give elita some time, she has been a prime for two issues and only one had her in it

21

u/Elemental-T4nick JAAaAam??? Apr 18 '26

Rodimus - did nothing wrong

Smokescreen - never succeeded him

Bumblebee - fuck that guy

Elita One - she literally just got the matrix, calm the fuck down and wait to see what she does

1

u/Stuffies2022 Apr 19 '26

SPECIFICALLY that Bumblebee or all Bumblebees?

Also sure I’ll wait to see what they do with Elita’s character but as of now she isn’t really giving me many reasons to root for her

8

u/The_Word_Wizard Apr 18 '26

I still think it would have been awesome in Prime if Smokescreen had been Hot Rod instead and Optimus had actually died and passed the Matrix on. Would have been a good way to include that “what it means to be a Prime” theme that wasn’t super prominent in the actual show.

5

u/Foreign_Split4768 Apr 18 '26

The way Elita-1 got the Matrix is bad, and I'm tired of some influential creators acting like it's not

4

u/Radio__Star Autobot Apr 18 '26

Optimus offering smokescreen the matrix was such a tease man

I guess this is why Optimus will never get replaced he’s just too ironic

5

u/nova-prime-enjoyer FEMALES? I thought they were extinct! Apr 18 '26

TFP Smokescreen is just Hot Rod with a stolen identity

10

u/Several-Ad1231 Apr 18 '26

Put some respect on Smokescreen's name, him choosing to give up the Matrix and the destiny he always wanted and choosing to revive Optimus was absolutely perfect character writing.

2

u/TaiyoFurea Apr 18 '26

Hard agree on that, smokescreen has my respect

2

u/chaoticConjurer Apr 18 '26

Where Armada Hot Shot?

2

u/Willhelmlee Apr 18 '26

Trying to succeed Optimus feels doomed to fail each time. Optimus set the standard and the qualities of a Prime in most of the media they present him in. I like the concept of the young leader with grand expectations and responsibilities placed upon them, but they need to at least attempt to have the young leader grow into that role and earn their title (and not bring Optimus back randomly in the middle of the story. I’m looking at you RID.).

2

u/RETARDERP Apr 18 '26

I'd argue that Rodimus DID do something wrong. While he was told multiple times not to interfere with Prime's fight, he ignored basic commands and still got involved. But that's NOT the issue here. The issue is HOW he interfered. Hotrod, who for all intents and purposes to us is a rookie nobody, decided a good way to help Optimus while he had a gun trained on Meg's face, would be to jump in the way and physically get close to Megatron, the strongest deception in their ranks and their LEADER. Hotrod, youre not that guy. But here's the thing, he could have avoided literally ALL of that issue, if he just yelled at Megatron from behind, dragging his attention from the gun, and then seeing Hotrod standing with both his arm guns trained on him as well, standing a comfortable distance AWAY from the murderous psycho. So now, Megatron has two sets of guns trained on him, (Hotrods arm guns are apparently able to EASILY ground a freaking shuttle on their own, so they should be plenty sufficient to harm Megatron in his weakened state.) It would have assured that no matter what move Megatron made next, Optimus would have been able to blast him apart on the spot if he retaliated. (Something he was completely unable to because Hotrod offered himself as a free body shield for Megatron) Those are just my thoughts on the matter and why Hotrod is just... Really stupid

2

u/Shadowbeast3316 Apr 18 '26

Personally I enjoyed smokescreen and am curious to what would've happened if he actually became a prime because the fact he knew optimus could lead better and that he knew himself to be childish at times he decided to risk it all to help optimus get fixed which proves he has some qualities of a prime

2

u/Micske033 Apr 19 '26

Gonna be honest I'm like 90% sure elita's whole 'successor' plotline is gonna be her realizing how hard Optimus's job really is and that her being a prime won't change the war much and that she's going to realize that Optimus staying on Earth was the much better option.

1

u/Best-Telephone-8178 Apr 18 '26

Hot rod was just there, and he made one bad decision

1

u/IntuitiveShark Apr 18 '26

The only one that didn't get messed up was Hot Shot!
