You know the commercial I am talking about.
I saw this commercial when it was first aired and have seen it dozens of times since. Not once did I think it made the brother and sister look like a romantic couple. I am from the U.S. for reference.
I feel that western society has a perverted take on the family unit, as well as a perverted sense of humor on a lot of things.
I grew up with a brother and a sister as well as a mom and dad who stayed married. We were typical of U.S. families I would say where me and my siblings would fight and tease each other. My parents were too stressed at work to be fully emotionally present with all of us. They did their best to provide, and we had good times, but we were never a wholesome family unit.
But that wholesome family unit was all that I ever wanted. I resented my brother and sister for how much they mocked and teased me, and not once did we ever say "I love you" to one another. Now as adults, we never developed a healthy relationship with one another. In ways they feel like strangers to me.
The brother and sister as depicted in the commercial is a wonderful example of how siblings should support each other and genuinely care for one another, and how parents should be relieved to see their child they haven't seen in a while.
Many cultures do have family units that behave in such a way, and we should strive to emulate this. This is what makes them strong.
Why are you so averse to a brother and sister who are not afraid to say "I love you" and who consider it a gift to see each other after so long?
