The Dark Knight Is The Only Good Movie In Its Trilogy

The Dark Knight is one of my favorite movies, so people naturally assume that The Dark Knight trilogy is also one of if not my favorite trilogy of all time. It surprises a lot of people when I tell them that I don’t like Batman Begins nor The Dark Knight Rises, only TDK. I think that Batman Begins is hindered by the fact that it has to be an origin story, and I didn’t really love how Christian Bale played Batman in that movie. I also hated Ra’s Al Ghul as a villain. The Dark Kngiht Rises had some awesome action sequences but Tom Hardy was terrible as Bane and Talia Al Ghul was one of the worst villains ever put to screen in a comic book movie. The cast of side characters is also so much more interesting in The Dark Knight, with Rachel, Harvey Dent, and Jim Gordon all having compelling narratives. Heath Ledger of course carries the movie with his performance as Joker, who is my favorite comic book villain of all time, followed by Thanos and Ozymandias.

People who answer the phone just to say they're busy are morons.

• Upvotes

If you're too busy to answer the phone, there is another option... you could simply not answer the phone. There is a reason voicemail, texting, and emailing exist as alternatives.

I will never understand the logic in picking up the phone just to say "I'm at work" or "I'm busy"

I find the phrase "that's fair" to be annoying

I find the phrase annoying because I know people mean well when using it but it comes across as pretentious to me when you look into it. Like you are judging someone for their opinions while remaining neutral on the subject like an arbiter of truth. It gives the condescending vibe of "you have bad opinions usually, but this time you made a decent point good job." When you could have just said I disagree or agree and leave it at that. It's like the person wants to say more but cuts themselves off leaving their real opinion up in the air while pushing down on someone for sharing their opinion. How do you guys view it?

4k television sucks!

It just looks so fake, and weird. It doesn’t even look like real life. Perhaps, it’s good for video games. However, I can’t stand watching 4k on regular television.

The term “burden” in relation to people is often times definitionally correct, but is still not acceptable to call people that

The term “burden” in this context refers to a responsibility held by one or more people, with the connotation that said responsibility is unwanted and/or not enjoyable to handle.

Some people do unfortunately fall under this umbrella, where their care is put on others who didn’t ask or the responsibility and struggle with it physically and/or mentally.

But, that doesn’t mean it’s an acceptable thing to call people. To me it seems similar to calling someone a slur. The word might technically be accurate, but it’s still an incredibly hateful and insensitive thing to say.

I don’t think people should be shamed for having to be in the care of others, as it’s not something people usually have control over. It’s as stupid as being hateful to someone for any other of the many things about someone that can’t be changed that they didn’t choose.

Most everyday interactions are completely meaningless, and the "you need small talk to build social skills" argument is a total cop-out.

The vast majority of casual, everyday interactions are completely worthless, and you do not need to subject yourself to tedious small talk to learn how to socialize.

"Well, you have to practice interacting with all kinds of people so you know how to function in the real world!" That is absolute nonsense. You don’t need to master the art of discussing the weather or nodding along to someone's recycled daily complaints to learn effective communication.

Real social competence, empathy, active listening, witty banter, and deep connection come from interacting with people you actually want to be around. You build true social skills by investing in reciprocal relationships with real friends, peers, and collaborators who challenge you, share your wavelength, or bring genuine substance to the table.

The only exception to this is the workplace, where socializing serves a strictly utilitarian purpose. Performing for coworkers or management makes sense because you are literally being compensated to navigate those professional dynamics. Outside of getting a paycheck, forcing yourself to endure mind-numbing chatter with random people who offer zero stimulation doesn't sharpen your social tools. It just drains your energy and teaches you how to tolerate boredom.

The vast majority of day-to-day encounters lack any real depth, and pretending they hold some profound personal developmental value is a coping mechanism for people who can't handle silence. Unless you're on the clock, you're allowed to skip meaningless social theatre. You can learn how to communicate just fine by focusing exclusively on the relationships that actually matter.

The drum break in "In The Air Tonight" is not as great as people make it out to be

Cool part, sure, but I just don't get the people who act like that drum break is the second coming of Christ. It's nothing like the guitar solo in Hotel California or the drum solo in Moby Dick. I understand why those songs are iconic.

I don't even get why it's considered such a great song, just super repetitive lyrics, melody is not particularly interesting, vocals are alright.

No disrespect to Phil Collins, he's a legendary drummer, but I just don't get why this song is so highly regarded.

Upscaled remasters of old games usually look worse than the original

I’m not talking about full blown remakes, but rather remasters that take the original game and simply upscale it to a higher resolution and update a few textures. An example of this would be Zelda Twilight Princess vs Twilight Princess HD. The thing with older games is that the low resolution actually hides many of the imperfections like low poly models, but when upscaled things like this become so much more noticeable.

Another thing I’ve found is that when playing old games, the worse your screen is the better it looks. I was playing the N64 version of Zelda Ocarina of Time on a 32 inch HD TV and found that the old graphics actually had a nice charm to them, however the same game on a large 4K TV is incredibly ugly. I’m sure that on an even older and “worse” CRT screen it would look even better!

In my experience, I just think that most old games don’t look very good on modern screens and in high resolution.

The towels we use to dry off with are WAY too big.

• Upvotes

...and I'm not talking beach towels. We lay on those, so the size is reasonable. But for just drying off after a shower, I feel like the size of the towels we use are super excessive. Recently, I couldn't find a clean towel for after my own scrub-a-dub and wank sesh. So i grabbed a hand towel instead and folks, let me tell you: I was dried to completion. In fact, I feel like the smaller towel would have been enough had two of us been in there. Never mind that I haven't showered with another person in about a decade. The point stands!

Look, it's not like bath towels are a problem, per se. They are just...too big. You guys totally agree, right??

I do not think TNR is ethical and I believe feral cats should be put down

Like the title says. I think Trap Neuter/Spay Realease is incredibly unethical and selfish. Just because those cats aren't having more kitten doesn't mean they aren't doing insane amounts of damage to the environment they are released back into. I love cats, I own cats and belive that kittens off the street should be rehomed, but feral cats who cannot be handled at all do not need to continue living on the cause carnage amongst bird, reptile, amphibian, squirrel and rabbit populations.

Cats are invasive and destructive. I dont understand these people that put all this effort to catch them just to let them go. Its also extremely dangerous for cats in the wild, coyotes, Bobcats, cougars, Hawks, not to mention the cruelty of human. And the rampant nature of sickness among wild colonies. The easiest way to prevent suffering of these feral cats who cannot become pets is to put them down humanely.

Why do cats get a pass for destruction of ecosystems, just because they are cute? Why do we let them continue suffering cat fights, and sickness and cruelty when there is a solution?

I also believe wholeheartedly in spay abort, especially considering that so many of these pregnant cats are barely out of kittenhood themselves. We dont need more kittens in our failing shelter system, especially when we have so many cats without homes.

Rating a book 6 out of 5 Stars just shifts the scale from 1-5 to 2-6

Nowadays on BookTok and book-related social media, reviewers love talking about their “6-star reads.”

I understand that "6 stars" just means they loved the book so much that they want to give it an extra star to show their enthusiasm. But all that really does is shift the entire rating scale up by one.

If 6 stars is the new maximum, then your 5-star books are effectively 4-star books, and everything else on the scale just slides up with it. The relative rankings between books haven't changed at all.

Basically, a 6-star book is just a 5-star book on a normal rating scale. You're not giving the book a higher rating so much as inflating the scale to accommodate how much you love it.

E bikes can actually be good for kids

I constantly see people opining online and in the news that E bikes are bad for kids and bad for society. Usually people point to accident rates, and kids driving dangerously.

But, as a kid who grew up driving bicycles, mopeds, four wheelers, dirt bikes, etc., I think it’s important to let kids learn (when they’re ready) how to get around our streets by themselves and how to safely navigate on the roads using safer and easier methods of transport like a bike, an e bike, or a scooter. As millennials we decry kids not getting out and exploring like we used to, but when a new tech lets them do just that, we immediately say they shouldn’t have it.

I used to ride my bike when I was 13-18 to parties, to school, and eventually to my pizza job when I turned 16. Everywhere! It gave me a ton of freedom but was much safer for me and the world at large than giving me a humongous car to drive. An e bike can be just as safe as a bike if ridden smartly.

Here’s my take - the tech is overall good for kids so long as they are old enough and mature enough to otherwise ride a bicycle unattended and they obey the rules of the road. But there should be some kind of system where they lose their e-bike privileges if they get caught breaking the rules of the road. If a kid isn’t ready to even try an e-bike, that’s on the parents and not society to determine. Otherwise, kids get the benefit of the doubt until they make a mistake.

A Song of Ice and Fire is pointless if George R.R. Martin won't finish it.

1.9k Upvotes

I know a lot of people love these books but if an author cannot finish their work for a reason other than dying or rendering them incapable of writing, then there's really no point to their work. They're just a bum. Why would you want to read something they're too lazy to even finish? And if the argument is that it's "too complex to finish" then the writer is simply unprofessional. Bring some people in to help you tie the loose ends. Otherwise you're only letting your audience down or being an ego maniac.

Something hurting people’s feelings, make them uncomfortable, and/or feel unsafe doesn’t mean the thing is bad

All the time I see people discussing the morality of various things, and points like this inevitably come up.

People can and often do have negative feelings about the most random, harmless, or even objectively good things. It’s not an indicator of morality at all.

If your entire argument for why something is bad is that it makes people uncomfortable or feel unsafe, you don’t have an argument.

Obviously intentionally doing things to upset others and cause drama or conflict is wrong. That’s not what I am talking about.

The reaction to Tom Cruise jumping around on the Oprah couch was massively overblown

Ok to start, and please do read this: I think Tom Cruise is a pretty strange guy, and I think he’s into a lot of weird stuff, and I’m no huge fan of him as a person (although I like a lot of his movies because they’re good movies and he’s a good actor). But him jumping on the couch and punching the air a few times in celebration, on a talk show, where everyone was very much cheering him on and encouraging it, was hugely overreacted to. People do that kind of daft shit on talk shows all the time. He was just being a bit silly, and I don’t know why it became such a thing. It’s simply not that unusual or zany when you watch it again. If a celebrity did it today, nobody would pay any attention.

The “Lighter” World Cup song is great

im saying this from a Musical respective, the song sounds super epic and uplifting, and the lyrics of them being not-shackled to the ground feels empowering. The best port is when they switch it to the Spanish lyrics, which made for a phenomenal beat drop. I don’t care it has little to do with soccer, but I’ve never heard something like this before.

Liberty Biberty is not that bad

I’ve noticed a lot of hostility towards Liberty Mutual’s new mascot on social media, where people have been making edits of him dying horrible deaths or counting the ways they would make him suffer.

But idk. LiMu and Doug (actually just Doug) were a million times more obnoxious.

Maybe I’ve got a soft spot for puppets, but I find Liberty Biberty to have quite an endearing and innocent demeanor. Especially in that one commercial where that himbo gives him his autograph and he realizes he can’t read. He also kinda reminds me of the star from The Good Night Show (iykyk) which makes it difficult for me to hate him.

On top of that, he has no limbs which makes him completely harmless compared to LiMu, who could potentially attack when cornered by people angry about their policy or Doug, who is usually the main source of conflict in those ads. In other words, Liberty Biberty is the ultimate pacifist which perfectly encapsulates the image that an insurance company would want as the face of their brand.

Surely I can’t be the only one who feels this way?

Making event-specific obtainable items is cruel in gaming, especially when it's powerful or necessary

For example, a halloween event in a game. you would want to spend the halloween celebrating, or doing anything else, but your favorite game dropped an event-specific halloween only upgrade which is available for a limited time, takes time to grind towards, and is a huge boost to gameplay. and if you don't do it's annoying grindwall it will threaten to keep it out of reach for you for an entire year's worth of time. this forces the players to quickly grind the whole halloween, or partially during halloween, which they could've spent either having fun with friends and family during halloween, or done anything else. i understand if u have event-based cosmetics that only make you look cooler, because it's optional, but not when it boosts gameplay or actually benefits it.

You can see everything is over dramatic and fake.

(Post is about a movie called “you can see everything” )

None of this felt like an actual doc. It all felt like a big play about a doc.

The part when Amanda is arguing with Billy is so dramatized and obviously scripted. It’s like they were told to be dramatic; No one in this doc talks like a real human being.

One of the worst movies (fake documentaries) I’ve ever seen.

The whole theatrics of wine tasting is completely unnecessary

Wine either tastes good or it doesn’t. Going eyeballs deep in your wine to sniff it and to making up a bunch of random fruits that it tastes and smells like is so unnecessary. Every glass of wine doesn’t need to be a whimsical ballet through the grapevines of Narnia.

The saying that "you are the only one who can control your destiny" is a very optimistic and sadly untrue viewpoint of the world and how it really actually works

This saying, as well as similar ones such as "nobody is going to save you", "nobody will care about your success except for you", "you can only rely on yourself", etc.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on the way you look at it), you actually do need people who are willing to care about your success, work with you, give you a chance, etc. to succeed in this world. They say that finding a job is oftentimes not so much what you know as much as who you know, you need that person willing to give you a chance. Similarly, if you're going to become an entrepreneur, you need people willing to purchase from you, invest in your business, etc.

Sadly we do need to rely on other people in order to "further" ourselves in this world. Not to mention the amoutn of people we rely on for other services. We in fact can't rely on only ourselves in this world. The people around you actually do have a lot of control as to the direction your life goes in. Random circumstance is also another factor that sadly you can't control either.

My guess is this advice is passed on to generations to encourage people to always put their best foot forward. Or possibly to try to convince the advice giver themselves that that's how the world works/a coping mechanism. Also, I would say that one's success in a school setting (where people usually first hear this) that this saying is probably more true than the work world, although still not completely true by any means.

Would be nice if you personally could control what happens but you can't sadly, you need other people

Social Skills are the most important skills to have. It is better to be a bad person with good social skills than a good person with bad social skills.

Social Skills are the most important skills of all. Having good social will get you far in life and more important than anything else (having technical skills, being competent at a job, being a good person)

Having good social skills is the most important thing when it comes to getting good jobs . Most bosses would rather hire a charming social butterfly with zero technical skills for the job and is incompetent than someone who has great technical skills for the job but has poor social skills. I've lost count of how many times i've seen people get fired for being "too quiet" at work or not socializing with coworkers on off-time.

I'll even go as far as to say that having good social skills is far more important than being a good person
Most people would rather be friends a chatty charming extrovert who his a horrible person/blly than a quite introvert with poor social but is a good person who regularly volunteers and donates to charity. Every blly i've know was always surrounded by tons of friends and loved by most people. Meanwhile the socially awkward are treated like monsters for existing, despite being good people.

As long as someone has good social skills, they could be a murderer ,drugdealer, thief, predator, cheater, or blly and they would still be loved and defended by people around them.

Nobody cares about your skills or how much of a good person you are. All they care about is your social skills and how much you make them feel good.

People hate the socially awkward far,far more than they hate bad people.

sports team names that reflect their city should not move when a team moves

Teams like the Lakers, who got their name when they were in Minnesota the “Land of 10,000 Lakes”, or the Jazz, who were named for New Orleans’ famed jazz scene, are committing cultural theft when they move to a new city and keep their same name.

I understand that teams are assets and their owners can choose to move their teams for a variety of reasons, but when teams borrow from a city’s or state’s cultural and historical brand, they should not get the right to take that brand and move it to another city. It’s just wrong!

And it’s nonsensical. What in the world does Los Angeles have to do with lakes? The only lakes we have are man made reservoirs that are quickly drying up. Same goes for Utah and jazz: the Mormons are about as far as you can get from the rich and sometimes debaucherous history of jazz music.

A 225LB Benchpress is not impressive. 315 is the new 225.

• Upvotes

It's commonly stated some small percent of (all) men can benchpress 225lb therefore it is impressive or good.

However that statistic doesn't mean jack shit because of course people who don't try to perform some physical feat won't be able to do it. It really only matters what percent of men who TRY (IE train) to bench 225 eventually end up being able to. Many men go to the gym and weight train and even flat bench, but still may not even be aiming to bench whatever weight.

So following my new criteria what percent of men who train to bench 225 can hit 225 at some point for 1RM? I'd say at least 70% if not more. So assuming thats in the ballpark the majority of men who try to bench 225 can bench 225. Thus it isn't impressive.

Let's change 225 to 315. I'd say less than 10% of men who try to bench 315 will ever hit it. Therefore it is impressive.

Anecdotal GYMFLATION. Gymflation of an impressive bench is occurring because simply more people these days train to bench heavy because starting strength popularity, influencers, and higher popularity of power lifting than in the past. Since most men will hit 225 if they train for it and more people are training for it you see it pretty damn often even at a commericial gym. I got to a commercial gym during senior citizen hours and I almost always see multiple people benching 225. Since the conversion rate for most men who can bench 225 to get to 315 is small you still rarely see it even with more men than ever trying to get it.

It’s gross if you DON’T pick your nose

3.0k Upvotes

Part of staying clean is not having a nose full of boogers and the absolute best way to clear them all out is by picking your nose.

Is it gross to wipe your ass? Yes. But it is 10x grosser to walk around with shit in your ass.

Same thing with picking your nose. It’s a little icky but much cleaner than walking around with a booger filled nose.

And no, blowing your nose into a tissue does not sufficiently get rid all of the boogers.

I personally do it in the shower so that my hands are clean before and after.
