Questions Anyone else sick and tired of religious solicitation on campus?

Yes I am aware this is a public university and they have free speech however since I started at UofA this year I have been approached over 100+ times by these religious people. Sometimes they are handing out flyers and sometimes they come up to you and ask if you have a minute or if they can talk to you about your beliefs. The first 100 times I was cool about it and either said no thanks or just walked past but now I’m getting annoyed. Sometimes they stand outside of my dorm or on highland ave. I got really mad at one guy one time for approaching me right as I was walking out of my dorm lol. It’s also weird that they are usually in their 30s and 40s trying to recruit 18-23 year olds. Seems predatory to me. I know there was the big cult bust back in 2015 but can we do anything about it now? Also if it was cracked down on back in 2015 is there anyway reason it’s not still something the school watches out for? If it’s not it’s definitely something that they should start investigating again.

Questions Is there a place in Tucson I can scream?

I have been pent up and no better way to let off steam than to scream/yell, but I can’t really scream in an apartment complex, and screaming in public doesn’t sound like a good idea. So is there a soundproof place on campus, a secluded area, any place where I can just scream out my tension?

Questions Parking Citation

I got a citation for parking in one of the "Reserved; Parking Permit Only" spaces despite having a permit for the garage. Is this space not for people with permits despite explicitly stating they are?

Questions roommate issue

so ive been in the dorm since fall of 2021 and in spring of 2026 my room mate wanted me to go to bed like 5-6hrs than i usually would, so in return i asked for us to use lamps so my eyes dont die while im doing homework or chilling, but i didnt have an issue because he would go to bed at midnight, but fall of 2026, he goes to bed before 10pm, so now thanks to that i have to eat early or else i wont get the chance to eat my 2nd meal, i would eat 3 times a day, noon, 7pm to 9pm and sometime in the am hours, but now i only eat 2 meals a day. i barely make any noise during the night, but my desk is in front of his, so while we are both awake i have 0 privacy and i have no idea what he does, back before the issue i would have privacy as he sleeps and darkness which worked well. now i have only like 2hrs instead of 5hrs a day. so after i finish what i need to do by midnight i climb into bed and only use my phone and blue tooth headphones, but its not as efficient or comfy, i have a $500 razer iskur chair, where as the bed isnt that good of back rest cause i put a pikachu pillow on the wall, i also cant use switch 2 cause the wifi needs a password which can only be done on pc and phone, i use my pc hotspot to play online. im also still drinking my coffee as hes sleeping which is annoying that because of a early bird room mate it affects my schedule so much, when im awake while he sleeping i dont eat, use microwave, when i exit room and enter i make it soundless, where when im sleeping he does the opposite, he slams everything, slams the door, slams the mircowave shut, eats noisy food, why are earlybirds so inconsiderate to night owls

so basically, if i will leave the dorm in december what way do i make it a better experience?, i cant divide the room, cant put foam padding up, im too shy to tell him to shut up while im sleeping, but either comfort or privacy, i know phones have a thing where at a certain angle it will be a black screen, but mine are ultra wide curved monitors, im not sure how to get more privacy. for comfort i might buy that bed thing with arm rests and backrest or just try more pillows. for privacy theres some videos or games i only play when hes sleeping and when hes moving around i have the yt video not shown and i only have certain thing on my right hand monitor, like homework, discord or something where when hes sleeping then i have game on left and yt on right screen

anyone thinking of moving into dorm make sure to be behind your roommate and if your a earlybird then get a night owl and vice versa so u can be up when they aint, then make sure they let u be up. since mine aint i really dont want to be in dorm no more, from fall 2021 to spring 2026 it was fine, but its changed. also when u sleep have a fan on to cancel out some of the crappy noise and get a beefy blanket to stay warm, mine is the black honeywell quiet set 8 setting fan, its a beast, after some time the led go wonky, but i have it on every night and some days and it never breaks for me. the image below is room layout and the green is my setup

Questions How is U of Arizona as STEM student?

U of Arizona being tier 1 research institution as well as AAU member, U of A has some serious resources for students wanting to take advantage.

At the same time, UofA has so-so graduation rate as well as fun party culture.

How is it for being a STEM major? What made you decide to go to U of A to study in STEM especially if you’re OOS? If you’re in honors college, how is it?

My son is interested in attending and interest in hearing your perspectives.

Questions Are physical Cat Cards really not obtainable anymore, despite the official website saying they are?

Was just down there at that Cat Card office in the Student Union building, and the women down there all told me that I couldn’t get a student ID there, as there would be “no more physical cards”, and that “they’ve phased them out in favor of digital”. Is this legit?

The U of A website and Cat Card info pages explicitly say otherwise. If that’s no longer true, then it absolutely should have been updated by this new semester start.

And it just irks me that they’re forcing students to go the “everything online” route with an ID. Certain businesses and events have student discounts, but will I have to pull up the U of A app every time I want to show a form of student ID?

Can someone help me out here and let me know if they’ve heard anything about this shift? It just seems inaccessible for students who don’t always have smart devices with them/even use them. I prefer to have physical copies of all my cards and IDs anyways, as it’s more convenient wherever I go.

Questions First year Biochem Student

Hi! I'm a freshman this year at the U of AZ, and am just wondering how bad is biochemistry? Really? I have a lot of anxiety regarding it already and we're only in the second week of school, but everyone I talk to about my major choice just tells me how hard it is and how much I'll want to drop out—I was even told I'd want to "k—ll myself and should bc there's no way I'll finish that major".

Not exactly a great start! 😅

Even worse start because I'm minoring in Neuroscience.

For some background, I also know my first year is already a LOT different than other freshman. In my last 2 years of highschool, I took Dual Enrollment courses which led me to enter with 28 college credits already, so, after December I'll be considered a Sophomore already, even if I'm not really.

I'd like to go to medical school and become an anesthesiologist, or a Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation(if anesthesia doesn't work) or a Family Medicine Physician(if the previous two fail).

My counselor told me I'm basically guaranteed to graduate in 3-3.5 years but I'm not too worried about that.

I'm mainly curious about how "bad" are the classes?

Should I give up now and switch majors?

The classes don't seem too bad yet but I'm really scared thanks to the fear mongering.

Questions Is UofA a good place to stick around after you graduate to get a job?

Tucson is a great college town but I'm not sensing it as a place I'd want to stick around after school. It seems like you really need find some affiliation with the school or else its a boring place to live.

On a positive note it seems like if you're still into college life you can still party on the weekends, go to sporting events, and still be connected to UofA.

Questions Should I transfer here

So I’m a comp sci major from a mid sized university and I’m just wondering if it’s a good idea to transfer. I kinda just want the warm weather (it’s very cold where I’m from), and the social vibes. I’m actually not very social (thanks to depression) myself I just enjoy being surrounded by it. I’m a freshman right now. Also no need to worry about living away from parents, I’m already doing that.

Questions Streetcar delays this school year

Is anybody else finding it impossible to rely on the streetcar as transportation to and from the U of A? I've experienced and heard of impossibly long delays. It has affected my family if not every day, then most days this week and seems way worse than last year. Asking for them and for research purposes. Trying to figure out what's going on.

Questions The college experience as an 18-year-old Junior

I recently committed to UA, paid the fee and all, but I'm beginning to feel like I've been doing college wrong. I began taking math classes as PCC as a fun after school activity during my junior year of high school when I was 16, and now I'm graduating with an associate of science degree at the same time as I graduate high school. For all intents and purposes, I'm considered a Freshman by the university, but I will be taking almost exclusively Junior and Senior (300-400) level classes.

Since I graduate high school in just a couple of months, everyone around me is talking about the "college experience" and how it's supposed to be some magical thing, but I'm already done with my first two years of college, and I feel like I have no life and no friends. I feel like I'm two years ahead academically and two years behind on every other aspect of my life. I'm anxious about being an 18-year-old Junior at UA, and I'm afraid that it will negatively affect my ability to make friendships and relationships, since I'll primarily be in classes with people 2 or 3 years older than me.

I'm curious to know other people's thoughts on this, and if anyone has had a similar experience with attending with a large amount of transfer credits.

Questions Help me decide (UofA vs UCLA)

hi this is my first ever reddit post but i need help.

Last week I got into UCLA which i mean, it’s UCLA. But the cost of tuition is absolutely insane and would cost my family around 64k a year.

In January, I got into the UofA honors college. My instate school which is significantly cheaper than UCLA (around 21k annually).

My parents are leaving the decision up to me and I am so conflicted. There’s huge pros and cons of each school besides the tuition.

UCLA has: a great location, better prestige, better for my major

But UofA has: a better social scene, more fun games, parties, etc., and is not as expensive.

I‘m studying political science on a pre-law track and I don’t know if sinking myself into debt with UCLA is worth it if I was to go to law school.

I know most of the reasons I like UofA are also superficial but those are things that are still important to me.

This is my first reddit post so sorry for any formatting or grammar mistakes but admitted students day for both colleges are on the same day so I need to decide ASAP which is why i’m coming on here for help.

Questions Question about insects

Hi wildcats, I’m an incoming international student of 26 Fall. Laugh if you want but I’m super afraid of insects/arthropod/most of creatures with more than four legs. I’m not sure about how common to encounter them in UofA but I’ve heard about rumors about scorpions, kissing bugs and black widows in Tucson. What the odds that I encounter any one of them in my four year journey if I live in the dorms? Please answer from your real experiences and don’t mess with me, insects are the one thing that I can’t bear down with, thanks🙏

Edit: please don’t share pics of insects you encountered, word description is enough. Seeing any will make me sick for the the entire day if not more. Peace🙏
