I, and many others I have spoken to, have found OIE's work to be shoddy and negligent at best, and structurally designed to protect the system over its people at worst.
Any media here? Would love to read more about this.
Hi everyone, hope your classes are going well this semester.
We wanted to let you all know that we're excited to announce that the community will soon be having its first AMA!
The AMA will be hosted by UofA's official socials team ( u/UniversityofArizona ) and they'll be available to answer any questions you may have about advising or registration. Since it'll be an AMA and not an AMAA (ask me almost anything), we're sure they'll also be happy to answer any other questions you may have that are in their wheelhouse.
The AMA will be taking place here (on r/UofArizona) on October 21 from 10am to Noon.
Once they make their submission on the 21st, we'll also be pinning the AMA to make it easier to find.
as an incoming freshman (class of 2031) I’m very curious about the applied physics degree/ program. from what I’ve seen it looks like I would be able to take engineering classes as technical electives, while still focusing on physics and astronomy (which is my main goal). I’ve been told I should major in aerospace or optical physics instead because the departments are much more reputable, however im planning on going to grad school and not straight into the industry so it matters less. I’m probably going to minor in planetary science if that matters.
Do any aphys or engineering students want to give advice?
Hii! I'm a sophomore at the UofA and have been wanting to start volunteering but have no idea where to start. I'm majoring in Aerospace Engineering and have tried joining clubs to get more involved and get information but leave the meetings still feeling lost and just stopped attending them. I’ve had people tell me I just need to continue attending but it lwk felt like I was just invading a big group of friends.
My resume isn’t great which is why I haven’t tried going to the career fair or anything similar.
I was just wondering if there's opportunities outside/in of the uofa I should consider trying out to eventually build up a better resume and be more involved. honestly any advice would be great
so ive been in the dorm since fall of 2021 and in spring of 2026 my room mate wanted me to go to bed like 5-6hrs than i usually would, so in return i asked for us to use lamps so my eyes dont die while im doing homework or chilling, but i didnt have an issue because he would go to bed at midnight, but fall of 2026, he goes to bed before 10pm, so now thanks to that i have to eat early or else i wont get the chance to eat my 2nd meal, i would eat 3 times a day, noon, 7pm to 9pm and sometime in the am hours, but now i only eat 2 meals a day. i barely make any noise during the night, but my desk is in front of his, so while we are both awake i have 0 privacy and i have no idea what he does, back before the issue i would have privacy as he sleeps and darkness which worked well. now i have only like 2hrs instead of 5hrs a day. so after i finish what i need to do by midnight i climb into bed and only use my phone and blue tooth headphones, but its not as efficient or comfy, i have a $500 razer iskur chair, where as the bed isnt that good of back rest cause i put a pikachu pillow on the wall, i also cant use switch 2 cause the wifi needs a password which can only be done on pc and phone, i use my pc hotspot to play online. im also still drinking my coffee as hes sleeping which is annoying that because of a early bird room mate it affects my schedule so much, when im awake while he sleeping i dont eat, use microwave, when i exit room and enter i make it soundless, where when im sleeping he does the opposite, he slams everything, slams the door, slams the mircowave shut, eats noisy food, why are earlybirds so inconsiderate to night owls
so basically, if i will leave the dorm in december what way do i make it a better experience?, i cant divide the room, cant put foam padding up, im too shy to tell him to shut up while im sleeping, but either comfort or privacy, i know phones have a thing where at a certain angle it will be a black screen, but mine are ultra wide curved monitors, im not sure how to get more privacy. for comfort i might buy that bed thing with arm rests and backrest or just try more pillows. for privacy theres some videos or games i only play when hes sleeping and when hes moving around i have the yt video not shown and i only have certain thing on my right hand monitor, like homework, discord or something where when hes sleeping then i have game on left and yt on right screen
anyone thinking of moving into dorm make sure to be behind your roommate and if your a earlybird then get a night owl and vice versa so u can be up when they aint, then make sure they let u be up. since mine aint i really dont want to be in dorm no more, from fall 2021 to spring 2026 it was fine, but its changed. also when u sleep have a fan on to cancel out some of the crappy noise and get a beefy blanket to stay warm, mine is the black honeywell quiet set 8 setting fan, its a beast, after some time the led go wonky, but i have it on every night and some days and it never breaks for me. the image below is room layout and the green is my setup
Hello. I was looking into studying abroad for a semester, but the places I want to go to don't align with my major. I'm best matched on the U of A study abroad website is for international internships, typically over the summers. I am most interested in internships in Asia. Does anybody know how competitive these internships are to get into? As always, thank you for the help.
I’m getting a bit anxious and wanted to see if anyone else is in the same boat. I interviewed with the University of Arizona for their PharmD program back on September 2nd and finished my Kira Talent assessment on September 11th.
It’s been over a month now and I haven’t I received any emails. I know a few people who interviewed after me who have already gotten their acceptance letters, so the silence is making me nervous.
Has anyone else who interviewed around early September heard back yet? Or does anyone know if U of A releases decisions in batches or based on specific interview panels?
Thanks in advance, and good luck to everyone applying this cycle!
Hey guys so I’m stupid (obviously ) I was trying to drop a class that haven’t even started yet and since they are both the same name and I accidentally withdrew from a class i wasn’t meaning to. Idk what to do
UA Resist, DeFlock Tucson, Feminists Organized to Resist, Create, and Empower (FORCE), UA National Lawyers Guild (NLG), UA Planned Parenthood Generation Action (PPGEN), UA Students for Socialism (SFS), and United Campus Workers of Arizona (UCWAZ) announce a campaign to make the University of Arizona a sanctuary campus!
We demand the UA Office of the President and Office of the General Counsel publicly commit to solidifying the University of Arizona as a sanctuary campus to protect every student and worker, including, but not limited to, undocumented and documented UA community members against state-sanctioned violence.
We task the University of Arizona with these demands to end their ongoing silence and complacency as students and workers continue to have their visas threatened and be detained. Students cannot attend classes, let alone live, without fear. We are inundated with surveillance of our daily lives. Moreover, as a sanctuary campus also means ending the proliferation of DHS, ICE, and CBP's overreach and power, the UA must dismantle their entrenched funding, research, and labor with these federal organizations.
The Office of the President and Office of the General Counsel have been notified of these demands as of 7 AM on Monday, October 12, 2026. We have requested a response by 5 PM on Friday, October 23, 2026.
Y’all need to stop for pedestrians, you know that, right? You can’t just ignore them or speed through when you see someone crossing at a crosswalk. Pedestrians have the right of way, and you need to respect that.
I’m currently in this class and kind of struggling to keep up with the pace, does anyone have any helpful resources that I could use to learn, study, or practice? Open to tutoring as well.
I need help picking a psio course for next semester. I was planning on taking biomechanics but for some reason it's not offered this year. I am now stuck with picking between Psio 429, Psio 425, and Psio 411. If anyone can give suggestions on which of these you found interesting that would be great.
So I’m a comp sci major from a mid sized university and I’m just wondering if it’s a good idea to transfer. I kinda just want the warm weather (it’s very cold where I’m from), and the social vibes. I’m actually not very social (thanks to depression) myself I just enjoy being surrounded by it. I’m a freshman right now. Also no need to worry about living away from parents, I’m already doing that.
Does anyone else think it’s weird that in the social sciences bathrooms there isn’t dividers for the urinals. It’s literally just 5 urinals lined up next to each other without any side wall that blocks you from another persons sight.
I literally just saw a girl crash off her bike because an oblivious pedestrian was walking in the bike lane. If even if you’re just going to cross the lanes to get to the other side, maybe look both ways before proceeding so you don’t cause an accident. They’ve literally had to put people out by the lanes with signs to tell people this, but they can’t do this every single day. It’s called a Side-WALK for a reason.
Hey everyone, im currently living at the cottages and i swear they paired me with the worst roommates possible. ATP im not really interested on switching units since i know everyone has their routines and i genuinely don’t want to bother anyone. Has anyone broken a lease with the cottages? Im genuinely not interested in living here and i would be more benefited if i just move to another apartment by myself.
Has anyone here had to file a report/ complaint through the U of A's Office of Institutional Equity? Did they accept your report/ complaint? Were you satisfied with the scope and results of their investigation?
Did the OIE or anyone else /any other entity at the university help you while the investigation was pending?
Hey guys, I’m looking at colleges right now and hoping to direct my future career and goals towards landscape architecture design. I know ASU has programs for these but I’m trying to avoid the crazy school and hopefully come here instead. Also, I’ve been wondering if UofA has any programs where I could do the student exchange program at UH Manoa for possibly my master degree since UH Manoa doesn’t have any BLA programs. I’m still pretty new to this so any advice/tips would be appreciated. :)
I need an advice for a first year (3rd semester) CTS PhD international student at UofA Tucson. They have reached out to professors in the program for funding after their first year fellowship but haven't found anything.
Please kindly suggest some potential funding options. It could be a GA, RA, TA or any other opportunities. They have 2 years TA experience during their masters program (Tutoring chemistry lab).
I’m an idiot who put off my Spanish requirement and now I’m a junior who cannot spare a 4 credit hour course in my schedule. I haven’t taken a Spanish class since sophomore year of high school, but I’ve kept my Spanish skills up a decent amount through speaking with people at my work and with one of my roommates.
Wondering if anyone knows how hard the Spanish language proficiency exam you take via honorlock is. It costs $40 per retry, so I want to try and get it first try. How much does it cover? What’s the approx. 102 level at the UofA?
This is mostly a rant about a recent small negative experience I had in certain dorm. Don’t read if you hate negative vibes during Family Weekend.
Background info, international, male. It was roughly 3 a.m. I had just finished my weekend Netflix binge and decided to go brush my teeth before bed.
There’re three restrooms on that floor, two gender-specific ones and one for all-genders. I usually use the male one, but I sometimes use mixed gender one cuz it’s actually closer to my room. When I hold my toothbrush and stuff and about to get in, a white girl pulled the door and tried to get out. I stepped aside to let her out first, just to be polite. But then she suddenly asked me, “Why don’t you use the men’s restroom?” I replied, “It did say ‘All Gender’ on the door.” Then, completely out of nowhere, she just said, “Gross,” loud and clear and walked away before I even had time to process what had just happened.
I admit, I only had been in US for 6 weeks, there’re certain social rules and cultural norms I’m still learning, and I’m happy to respect them. But I’m pretty sure none of those rules said dude deserves to be called “gross” if they used the mixed gender restrooms. My stand is, If a girl don’t feel comfortable seeing people of opposite genders in restrooms, she should use the female restroom instead, which is only couple doors away from the mixed gender one, where you are totally legit to call them freaks and stuff and call the police if you see guys wondering inside, same rule apply for males. When you decided to use the ALL-GENDER restroom, you should already assumed the risk of this kind of situation, and calling strangers “gross” only reveals that you’re the one who’s being uneducated, rude, mean and “gross”.
I didn’t say anything this time because confronting and arguing aren’t my instinctive nature. But I’ll keep using mixed gender restrooms whenever I feel like to, and if anyone say sh*t to me for that again, I’m not just going to stand there and take it this time.
For those of you majoring in engineering: UofA vs. ASU
I currently go to Pima Community College and I’m trying to decide between transferring to the UofA or ASU for engineering.
I have a few older friends who are in engineering, and they’ve all told me that I’ll probably end up having to move to Phoenix to get a good internship.
So my main question is: What does the UofA do to help engineering students find internships? Is it difficult to find engineering internships in Tucson, or are there actually decent opportunities here?
I’d especially love to hear from current UofA engineering students or recent graduates about their experience finding internships, whether in Tucson or Phoenix.
