Question Rodney’s Caesar tallcan - where is it made?

This isn’t beer but I assume it’s probably getting co-packed at a local brewery. Rodney’s Oyster House canned caesars. I love these and it’s probably the best canned caesar made in Western Canada. Just really curious to know where they are made.

The Matt and Steve’s caesars are the other best canned caesar you can get here and they’re made in Ontario. Big brand Mott’s caesars are also still good.

Edit: another local one is La Cervecería Astilleros of North Van, makes a canned michelada which is not a caesar but lime lager and tomato-clam.

I'm not affiliated and I'm not an investment advisor.

Interesting idea. Assuming $8/beer, you could break even on the $2500 investment in less than a year.

Question Anyone worked at Russell?

If you worked at Russell in packaging, would love a DM. We bought a piece of equipment at auction that needs a password, and it would be great to get it rather than needing to pay the manufacturer $$$ for it. Happy to compensate well! Cheers

Other 13 years of our pumpkin beer challenge, and this year I built a Jackbox-style app to run it

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Every October for 13 years, a few of us have done a pumpkin beer challenge. Some years it's blind, some years it isn't. This year we wanted to go blind again, so for the first time we wrapped every can in foil, and I wrote a little Jackbox-style web app to run the whole thing:

- **Joining:** the TV shows a QR code. Scan it with your phone, pick a horror monster as your avatar, and you're in.

- **Voting:** your phone is your scorecard. Slide to score each pour out of 10, guess which beer you think it is, and leave a tasting note. You can go back and change earlier scores as the night goes on.

- **The TV:** shows which pour is on the table, who's still thinking, how much beer has been poured, the room's average score and how long we've been at it. It also runs old horror movies in the background and occasionally has some jump scares.

- **The reveal:** the host enters the number from the bottom of each can, then the TV unwraps them one at a time, counts everyone's ballots and ranks the beers.

11 beers this year, all BC plus one from the Yukon. Results:

  1. Storm Pumpkin Pie Ale — 8.00

  2. Yukon Pumpkin Spice Ale — 7.83

  3. Parallel 49 Lost Souls Chocolate Pumpkin Porter — 7.83

  4. Vancouver Island Pumpkin Shack Harvest Ale — 7.67

  5. Parallel 49 Schadenfreude Pumpkin Oktoberfest — 7.33

  6. Howe Sound Pumpkineater Imperial Pumpkin Ale — 7.33

  7. Steamworks Pumpkin Ale — 7.00

  8. Five Roads Oogie Boogie Pumpkin Spice Stout — 7.00

  9. Fernie Ghostrider Pumpkin Brown Ale — 6.50

  10. Longwood Full Patch Pumpkin Saison — 5.50

  11. Phillips Crooked Tooth Nitro Pumpkin Ale — 5.33

I wouldn't take the rankings too seriously, they got a bit all over the place as the night "progressed" haha.

Question Main Street quality drop

I’m a long time customer of Main Street Brewing, especially their lagers but lately I’ve noticed a steep decline in their product.

Am I the only one? I’m wondering what’s changed.

Discussion Best IPA flights in Vancouver?

I’d like to visit a brewery and try a flight of all IPAs. East Van would be a bonus. Any recommendations?

I tend to like IBV 6% and up. Hoppy is nice. Not a massive hazy fan. Haven’t really branched out and tried too many local spots and would like to change that.

Question Best craft beer selection?

I live by Highpoint and used to be a loyal patron of Brewery Creek. I know about Legacy and Everything Wine. Who else in your opinion has a great craft beer selection in Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam or North Van?

Question Best Saisons?

Was always a fan of Everyday Balloons by Twin Sails. Super dry, crisp, a little touch of fruit. Seems like they’re done brewing it for the season though. Anyone else doing a really nice crisp dry Saison? Always struck me as a perfect fall style

Question Brewer Networking?

Hi, young female kiwi brewer here. Planning to move up to Canada next year (work permit sorted).

I'm a good few months away from making the move as I want to see out our busy season here first, but I'd really love to start planting some roots with the industry over there as well.

So, does anyone have any advice on how exactly to connect with local brewers/industry friends and find work opportunities?

I was considering cold emailing a few companies, but I'm not sure how that would be received, and quite frankly, I am unsure who I'd even target.

I'm very excited and have lots of questions, so I also welcome any general advice about life in Vancouver/BC, finding work, hiring processes, etc.

Thanks guys.

Other For those interested in beer trading

The CANBIF (Canadian Beer It Forward) fall season is here. It is pretty cool, and a great way to trade out all our region has to offer to people in other provinces, and you get mailed beer from someone else in another province. Details are here https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/canbif-fall-2026.684102/ I have taken part in it before, its a lot of fun.

Question Help me remember this brewery

I went to a brewery years ago (I think about 7 years?) on a beer crawl with my dad and it had probably 2-3 of my favourite beers and I cannot recall for the life of me where it was.

The beers I remember was something that had an aftertaste that was identical to Cinnamon Toast Crunch and I remember 2 other beers that made with rice or at least inspiree by it, and they were very light and smooth and did somewhat taste like makgeolli.

The interior had 2 floors, the first floor was where the actual brewery was, but the top floor was a small seating area with a bunch of paintings on sale.

Searching the Cinnamon Toast Crunch, I see it mentions Storm Brewing, but the interior and exterior seem wrong to me.

EDIT: Thanks for all the suggestions and guesses y'all. A bunch of them seem vaguely familiar and I'm going to try and hit up as many as I can to figure which one it was.

Discussion Red Truck Beer - what are your thoughts?

All right, I want to preface this by saying I haven’t tried them in ages and I went back and tried their original IPA because it was on sale and now their original lager.

I gotta say I’m reasonably impressed and I think they are low-key, a dark horse in the Metro Vancouver craft beer scene. Their IPA is just a solid IPA, got a lot of bitter, floral, pine notes that you want in an IPA at 6% . Eithet on sale or even at the regular price it’s pretty good value for what you’re getting.

Their original lager is equally, surprisingly solid/very good. It has some sweet maltiness, with a bitter edge, some slight earth and pine notes, but not as piney as other BC lagers might be (surprisingly Steelhead Lager comes across as much more floral and piney compared to this Red Truck), but also not as sweet as some other lagers, like another value lager, Force Lager.

I’ve had their Cold IPA and thought it was pretty darn good for a cold IPA and IPA in general. And like of all the Vancouver and extended Metro van breweries I’ve tried, I’ve overlooked these guys for like a decade and a half.

I feel like I might’ve had some of their stuff probably 15 years ago and just wasn’t impressed and didn’t think it was ever worth a visit to the brewery and now my mind’s changed.

What are your thoughts about this brewery? When was the last time you tried their original lager and IPA and what were your thoughts? Has anyone else had this experience with any other brewery or this brewery where you initially thought they were no good but now you think they’re pretty solid and worth checking out more? Additionally, what are some value beers for you in BC (value being the balance between as high a quality beer you can get, for a reasonably cheaper price than you might otherwise want to spend)?

Question Brewery recs for a short trip

I'll be in town Sept 2-5, but 2nd-3rd is for work and then I have a day and a half for fun. Bringing my girlfriend (doesn't like beer) so will probably only get 1 brewery in and want to make the most of it. I'll be in Surrey 1 night (for work) then staying in north vanc for 2 nights but expect to be downtown and all around for the most part. I'm a fan of darker/malty beers (not ipas) if that helps narrow down!
