(MARWOLF) - Is Logan an alcoholic? like a bad one?

Post image

All these years and its finally coming together. This dude walks around with the shirt off his back and barely 2 nickles in his pocket at any given point in time.

and Im like, WHY is he always broke?!

Nathanial Essex OTOH is like ~200 years old too and the man is richer than Diddy

Its gotta be the drinking. I always thought his metabolism would prevent him gettin sloshed but I guess I was wrong

He likes to drink but he can't get drunk on anything on earth. He regularly goes to Knowhere or Asgard when he wants to get real drunk. He and Thor are actually drinking buddies. But Essex was a socialite, inventor and Businessman, that's why he's rich. Logan was a wanderer who regularly had his memory wiped and was used as a weapon for a long time.

How have I gone my whole life without seeing a Wolvie vs Thor drinking binge...

.... until he was like 13 and killed his father. Then ran off into the wilderness and never went back so that has no bearing on his financial status.

0

u/love_wolverine 8h ago

Oh 😬 sorry I thought he still owned it my bad I was kinda trying to use it as a reason to justify his richness but I actually think he is rich but doesn't use that money cuz if u think about it he has a lot of warehouses and weapons so maybe he's not rich in liquid cash but he is in estate and possessions

0

u/PersonalitySmall593 8h ago

He doesn't have any of that. Those belong to his old teams or allies, and he still has access to them. He owns no homes or property.

0

u/love_wolverine 8h ago

Maybe not but many storylines have briefly touched on him having hidden stashes, Swiss bank accounts, or investments managed by specialized firms (like Landau, Luckman, and Lake), and he used to rob banks like get mystique and many under world operations and he just doesn't care about wealth so he either has it and doesn't use it or doesn't care about it or spends it plus when he robbed banks he never really cared about the money it was just for the thrill or manipulation

0

u/PersonalitySmall593 8h ago

In the main universe it has never shown him to HAVE anything. Like I said it is all things belonging to allies or old safe houses set up for him when he was an operative. Any money he gets he spends or gives away.

1

u/love_wolverine 8h ago

I'm not trying to totally disagree with you, but when you say he owns absolutely nothing, I think you're overlooking how comic writing works across different eras. He does have history involving hidden assets, stashes, and corporate/firm connections (like Landau, Luckman, and Lake). I haven't even read the comics in quite some time, but various writers over the decades have still hinted at him having resources tucked away. It might just require paying close attention to background details across his long publication history rather than taking a surface-level look. I'm definitely not saying he's filthy rich—just that he has more going on in the background than people give him credit for. Many writers add Easter eggs that u really need to pay attention to notice. If you read the other comments in this post, you can see I'm definitely not the only one saying this, there are plenty of other readers pointing out the same thing.

1

u/PersonalitySmall593 7h ago

I'm not overlooking anything.

He does have history involving hidden assets, stashes, and corporate/firm connections (like Landau, Luckman, and Lake).

Yea, connections. Still not monetary wealth.

He has friends who have a lot of assests at his disposal... but they aren't his.

He has access to old safehouses from various agencies he used to be apart of....but they aren't his.

He is owed favors by high ranking people who can provide him with what he needs.... but the assets aren't his.

He OWNS NOTHING.... Full fucking stop.

What about his motorcycle bub

u/Sugar_Crash_Brigade 9h ago

I think it's stated once upon a time, that Wolverine actually has a crazy amount of money, he just doesn't want to use it or show it off?

I did a quick search on it but didn't find anything of use. Maybe someone else can chime in.

67

u/Cael_NaMaor 8h ago

It was stated in the comics that he's among the wealthiest members of the X-men

My google search says he inherited the Howlett fortune (logging in Canada), over a century of accrued interest; inherited the Yashida crime family fortune, & demonstrated this wealth by funding the school in the series Wolverine and the X-men

18

u/UnicornWorldDominion 8h ago

Oh is that how they funded everything? I was always so curious!

6

u/RandomPenquin1337 4h ago

That and prof X bekgn able to just gather insider info whenever he wants and trade fat stocks

2

u/Cael_NaMaor 2h ago

this is the way....

19

u/Peslian 5h ago

He has also taken down a few criminal operations and kept whatever cash they had in hand.

3

u/Cael_NaMaor 2h ago

as one should.... :)

18

u/joblow514 8h ago

He's rich but not crazy rich like tony stark or Bruce Wayne. His money is managed by landau luckman and lake or LLL which is kind of like a poor man's version of the tva and operates in multiple dimensions. He used to own a bar but I'm not sure if he still does or not

6

u/maltliquorjetski 6h ago

Have the been in the MCU yet? I’m really hoping Madripoor and LLL gets brought in at some point.

5

u/apatheticviews 6h ago

Madripoor shows up in Falcon and the Winter Soldier

5

u/maltliquorjetski 5h ago

Oh I half watched the one and don’t remember…but it ain’t the same thing without ā€œPatch!ā€

3

u/apatheticviews 5h ago

They have Patch show up in DP3

3

u/DevilWings_292 6h ago

I’m pretty sure Madripoor was brought up in Age of Ultron

2

u/joblow514 5h ago

Patch was in the deadpool movie but I doubt we'll be seeing LLL

3

u/Sugar_Crash_Brigade 7h ago

If I had to put a figure on it, I agree he isn't billionaire wealthy, but hundreds of millions possibly

9

u/LewisRyan 6h ago

He’s like the vampire father from twillight ā€œwhen you’ve been working for 700 years, you tend to save some moneyā€

Wolverine read that army contract with a fine tooth comb. ā€œYou’ll pay for all my stuff for life huh bub?ā€

10

u/HickoryStickz 9h ago

I mean he has to have access to dough if he has a bunker with his shtf loadout stored inside. I don’t think those are cheap.

13

u/Sugar_Crash_Brigade 9h ago

I pulled an old issue, #79 Volume 2, where he has a huge warehouse of antique weapons and all sorts of interesting artifacts... So he definitely definitely has a lot of money,

10

u/HickoryStickz 9h ago

Yeah Logan is def like Highlander šŸ˜‚

6

u/SpprtRdcIHbts 8h ago

There is zero excuse not to be filthy rich after living 150+ years. Our economic system is based on compounding interest .....Well I guess other than he can't remember anything.

2

u/Fenrir_Carbon 4h ago

He could have had his fortune destroyed by 2 depressions a century apart tbf

He had stock in Bank of United States, Enron and sold all his Gamestop shares in 2020

6

u/mattyonice 7h ago

My first comic I ever bought was Wolverine #82. In it, he talks about a child he saves being funded properly through Landau, Luckman, and Lake.

It made it seem like he was ridiculously wealthy

3

u/Sugar_Crash_Brigade 7h ago

Yes, that's the same! I think he is insanely wealthy

5

u/asilentsigh 4h ago

It’s in a comic where he’s in California with Melita and talking about opening his own school. It might be after/during that little Chinatown run. I can’t remember the exact comic but it’s probably a thing that can be Googled. Anyway, she says something about him having the money to build a school and he’s like why do you think I have no money? She tells him because he lives out of two paper sacks and he replies saying how that’s just a lifestyle choice (I’m probably paraphrasing a lot but that’s the idea). I have this screenshot somewhere but not at hand!

Anyway, it would make sense that he would have money stored away because he doesn’t really live a lavish lifestyle, he’s been alive for ages and is always working with every team possible plus normal human jobs a lot of the time too. As Patch alone, he’s probably made himself a ton of money through both legit and shady means, which I believe is referenced in the comics at different points. There is this thing that happens after the Fox movies where writers begin to depict him as an incompetent slob but that was never his vibe previously. He might be careless with himself but he’s not irresponsible in general. He’s a smart man who has been around for a long time. He’s got safe-houses all over the world, there’s no way he hasn’t been saving money too. He also comes from some extreme wealth and even if he never got the chance to really claim any of it, I’m sure he understands how money works by now!

Tl;dr is that the man had enough cash to build and operate an entire school, to staff and house teachers and students, to have the tech and an ever watching/present Danger Room…don’t let the appearance fool you, he’s doing ok for himself. Being on every team ever has got to pay!

8

u/asilentsigh 3h ago

Replying to myself here because mobile wouldn’t let me add a photo to an edit of my post but I found the panel:

3

u/haste319 2h ago

Duuuude, I wasn't even thinking of the Patch run!

He probably made a killing in Madripoor.

1

u/asilentsigh 2h ago

Haha right?! The man has been around and he has been working! It’s crazy that there is this idea that he’s a bum when nobody is doing as much as he is! He probably made a few bucks from his time in the military across decades, he’s on every superhero team, he’s teaching, he’s running a bar while doing the whole Patch thing, he’s a busy guy who loves a side quest!

8

u/Diligent-Neck6594 8h ago

isn't he grossly in debt because of refusal to pay taxes

11

u/SpprtRdcIHbts 8h ago

He's Canadian. They're not going to do anything about lol

3

u/deadpoolsdragon 8h ago

Plus he avoids his taxes

6

u/Funny_Or_Cry 8h ago

I know ive come across the same someplace! ...maybe a What If Story

But thats my point, You cant tell me he doenst have some WW2 trophy gold stashed away in the canadian rockies LOL

2

u/Terrible_Reporter_98 6h ago

Check out wolverine MAX

1

u/Dudewhocares3 7h ago

He also doesn’t pay taxes

5

u/nickytheginger 6h ago

considering the government funded the illegal experiment that put adamantium in his body, I' think they' look the other way about back taxes.

3

u/Sugar_Crash_Brigade 7h ago

Wolverine is Canadian, so why would Tony Stark, an American, care about what Wolverine has or has not paid?

3

u/LewisRyan 6h ago edited 3h ago

The irs always get their due.

The other option is let Wolverine be extradited (wouldn’t go well for the cops sent to arrest him)

Wolverine would kill them, putting a huge target on superhero’s as a whole, one bad apple spoils the bunch

15

u/BilliamClimptonIII 8h ago

He may be an alcoholic in spirit, but his healing factor won't let him be a true alcoholic

2

u/Funny_Or_Cry 7h ago

Any AA meeting Wolvie is in will never be the same:

W:"Hey my names Logan and Im an alcoholic"
"Hi Logan!"
W:"I been on the good stuff since 1890. I been trying to cut back"
"Im sorry, did you say 1890?"
W:"Yeah bub"
"You know you're not supposed to come TO a meeting loaded right?"
W:"What are you trying to say bub?"
"Im saying, you need to dry out first. This is a safe place to face your demons
W:"How bout I show you a demon right now"...

1

u/heywhathsuo 6h ago

You can go to AA or NA meetings while drunk or high, literally kinda what its for so you can start on a path to betterment

14

u/redkomic 9h ago

he really can't get drunk so yes. and no.

3

u/UnicornWorldDominion 8h ago

There’s been times he seems absolutely sloshed but it’s only after drinking a fuck ton.

8

u/Ahorahan 9h ago

As far as habits go, yeah. As for As effects go, not really. If I remember correctly he can only stay drunk for a very short amount of time.

3

u/UnicornWorldDominion 8h ago

Yeah that’s why he chugs a whole bottle of whiskey so he can get drunk like someone would after 3-4 drinks

7

u/Arkamfate 7h ago

Hold my beer.

Logan is a functional alcoholic. Like a real life one. It takes a rather large quantity of booze to get him even slightly buzzed. He drinks cause he loves the taste and after burn honestly.

He functions with and without it, hence being a functional alcoholic. The term(irl) refers to people that can drink and get drunk and still act/behave as normal. Logan, is the superior version of that. As his healing factor makes it difficult for him to get drunk. Even if he were he'd be fine. Captian America, Deadpool, The Flash, and Superman all have similarities when it comes to alcohol consumption. They cannot get drunk or it metabalizes ver fast.

1

u/isthisonetakentoo309 5h ago

I would disagree, if he isn't getting drunk due to the healing factor then he's not acting/behaving normal while drunk. If he's just drinking for the taste that would put him closer to being a conisur than an alcoholic

-1

u/ErstwhileAdranos 5h ago

He’s not a functional alcoholic. To be considered a functional alcoholic, you still have to meet the criteria for Alcohol Use Addiction, and he does not.

6

u/RaeMidwestMae 8h ago

Logan's healing factor burns through alcohol so fast that he probably has to drink an impossible amount just to catch a mild buzz

3

u/spectatorade 8h ago

This!!!!

Also answers the 'how can Logan ALWAYS be smoking a cigar with no breathing issues?'

Like bro can tank a bullet to the head, radiation exposure, electrocution, and The Phoenix... He's not being done in by a 10proof and a smoke.

4

u/Gojifantokusatsu 9h ago

I think it's still canon that he literally invented Beer

2

u/UnicornWorldDominion 8h ago

Except beer has been around for thousands of years?

1

u/Gojifantokusatsu 8h ago

And the Thing is Blackbeard the pirate. I dont think historical accuracy matters.

4

u/Character_Neck_2368 8h ago

He isn't the type to save money. He work at blue collar jobs and odd jobs, spend on things like clothes, cigars, drinks and motorcycle. He also have memory problems which make long term investment complicated.

2

u/Funny_Or_Cry 8h ago

I know right! and the memory totally makes sense ...hahah he's probably collected and just up and forgotten about a dozen fortunes over the decades

5

u/Fang3710 8h ago

Is there a "good kind" of alcoholic? šŸŗšŸ˜µā€šŸ’«šŸ¤¢šŸ¤®

0

u/Funny_Or_Cry 8h ago

YEAH the good time alkie's you wanna do drinking games with!

Drinking games with Logan will always wind up getting shanked. No Bueno

1

u/Janer-Raner8200 8h ago

That’s not cause he’s drunk though(he can’t really get drunk), he just chooses to use his knives as a solution to every problem he has.

1

u/SPEZ_IS_A_JABRONI 8h ago

the claws are a party foul

3

u/Artistic_Kangaroo932 7h ago

Wolverine doesn't care about money and technicaly is a alcoholic larper as he is immune to the life threating downsides (other than being stupid) and addiction/dependancy to alcohol

3

u/Shadiezz2018 9h ago

He can't get drunk because his healing factor

3

u/ThanksWild4275 8h ago

Bro loves beer so much he invented it

1

u/Funny_Or_Cry 7h ago

hahah there was one of those memory sequences he talks about being a moonshine runner.
He got the bug!

3

u/Dadbod-goatee 6h ago

Due to his Healing factor poisons have very little effect on Logan. He literally doesn't get drunk.

3

u/EdgyPun34257 4h ago

Logan's healing Factor basically means it's almost impossible for him to get drunk, and if he does ingest the vast amount necessary to get a buzz it doesn't last minutes.

That's why he drinks and smokes cigar is heavily, because he has to super ingest to get anything out of it

-4

u/Arkmes 3h ago

The healing factor doesn't mean alcohol doesn't have an intoxicating effect. It may mean it causes less long term damage though.

2

u/EdgyPun34257 1h ago

That's at least one comic I remember of Wolverine saying "alcohol is a toxin, and my body instantly neutralizes toxins"... But he was obviously drunk at the time.

1

u/Aquagan 1h ago

You're getting down voted, but I do feel like there's at least a hydration issue. I don't think his healing factor automatically keeps him fully hydrated and alcohol is a diuretic.

2

u/ZebraManTheGreat7777 9h ago

His alcoholism isn’t that bad šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£

2

u/Expert-Task-1305 8h ago

He's the best kind of alcoholic

2

u/Cael_NaMaor 8h ago

This pic makes it look like he & Nightcrawler about to have a night that Nightcrawler's gonna have to pray about for years to come...

2

u/No-Tomorrow-8150 7h ago

No he's a terrific one

2

u/XGNik 6h ago

Pretend you said "Hi" to him just now. Does he respond, or does he drink?

1

u/Funny_Or_Cry 5h ago

Neither...he'll "shrug" lolol

1

u/XGNik 2h ago

Counts as a response. He's not

2

u/Floronic_man 4h ago

It's a popular trope for immortal, inmune or high healing factor characters to do selfharm, addictions, toxic substances, drugs...

1

u/Alternative-Jello683 2h ago

I mean, when you know you can’t die of something, it can easily just be ignored or become a habit.

2

u/seanmonaghan1968 1h ago

I think living hundreds of years, friends constantly dying, seeing the things he has would likely drive most to drink a little

1

u/Funny_Or_Cry 59m ago

This is the only answer LOLOL. i imagine he spent some time TRYING to be a wino and forget about all his issues (of that century LOL) but eventually levelled out

1

u/fenrisunchained117 8m ago

not to mention the constant kidnapping by shady organizations and memory wipes. when Wanda gave him back all his memories multiple government agencies went into panic mode and started mass shredding and deleting files

2

u/thejason755 1h ago

Honestly, if a naked nightcrawler suddenly apparated right in front of me i might choose to hit the sauce a little.

1

u/Funny_Or_Cry 1h ago

BWEHAHAHAHA cannot fault this reasoning

2

u/Icy-Status2681 50m ago

I've always wondered if his healing factor including filtering toxins from his blood? Could he even get drunk?

2

u/KTPChannel 39m ago

Imagine being able to smell everyone and everything within a 500m radius.

He drinks for the same reason he smokes cigars. He’s dulling the senses.

1

u/Funny_Or_Cry 24m ago

Yeah gotta admit that'd probably keep me drowned in scotch most of the time too

1

u/XenowolfShiro 8h ago

Is there such a thing as a good alcoholic?

1

u/BrandoCarlton 7h ago

I mean it’s a disease. There are tons of decent people that have fallen victim to the booze. Historically Ulysses S. Grant is my favorite alcoholic.

-3

u/Funny_Or_Cry 8h ago

YEAH! those good time alkie's you can play drinking games with.

Drinking games with logan will always end up with somebody getting shanked. Its no good

3

u/doctor_gloom1 8h ago

I don’t think you’ve known a lot of alcoholics.

1

u/fenrisunchained117 4m ago

there is that one DC hero who only has superpowers while drunk, and uses them for good. i think he counts

1

u/Tight-Parking955 6h ago

It really does not matter its not like he's gonna die from alcoholism? And he's not gonna develop a beer belly from it

1

u/HangryBeard 6h ago

With the shit he's seen, his rate of healing, and immortality, really how could he not be? It probably takes him a few bottles of bourbon within an hour for him to get tipsy. Dude is always drinking.

1

u/IllegitimateBuddhist 6h ago

He’s a functioning alcoholic, yes. Logan can’t get drunk the way humans can. He would have to drink massive quantities of high proof alcohol to get drunk like a normal person who mostly drinks Whiskey every day.

Now, if Logan were to be in an Olympic sized swimming pool full of say, 100 proof Whiskey, and he was somehow able to consume, let’s say, a quarter of it, he’d probably be drunk for at least a few weeks.

Or he’d be dead due to drowning.

Probably. I don’t know.

1

u/Funny_Or_Cry 6h ago

BWHAHAHA,.. ok you have a point. The consensus seems to be:

  • Wolvie drinks cause he likes it
  • He likes it so much, he cant get drunk
  • So He's a high functioning alchoholic
  • and so long as he stays away from olympic pool size tubs of hard liquor, he's usually good to go within hours

1

u/MrNigerianPrince115 Weapon X 6h ago

Drinks to forget the unforgettable

1

u/Sekshual_Tyranosauce 5h ago

I figure his healing factor sobers him up fast AF and keeps his liver tip top.

I don’t think alcoholism applies to him any more than any other disease does.

1

u/JohnMarston38 5h ago

James Howlett aka Wolverine gets his drinks for free because people fear him.

Most of his habits comes from Smitty from the comic Wolverine Origin. After James lost his father by accident when he discovered his powers for the first time. After he fled from his home, he took most of his habits from Smitty. He has seen in him somehow a father figure. He wanted to be like him, serious, mean and strong.

When it's about James being an alcoholic, it depends on his mood and how his day went and depending on who you're, he will act differently.

1

u/Kdilla77 5h ago

No; he’s not constantly drinking but he enjoys going on a bender from time to time. He does feel the effects of alcohol, he just feels it less because of his healing factor. (He clearly states ā€œI’m drunkā€ in Claremont/Miller’s original miniseries.) My head canon states that one six pack hits him like one beer for a man his size.

1

u/Tsujigiri 5h ago

I've always been curious to know if the biological aspect of addiction is healed by healing factors. If so, he probably just does it behaviorally, because he enjoys it, and because he can.

1

u/dobec 5h ago

Yes

1

u/Wise-Perception-5832 5h ago

His metabolism DOES prevent him from getting sloshed which is why he needs to drink SO MUCH to be able to feel anything, or maybe more accurately so he doesn't feel the emotions he doesn't want to feel. I also saw it mentioned that he likely smokes cigars so often to deaden his sense of smell so he doesn't have to deal with all the other strong scents around him.

1

u/cthesmith 5h ago

He's broke because he doesn't give a shit. If a person cares about power they can make themselves wealthy in a single lifetime, if you're Logan you'll spend most of your lifetimes drinking beer that barely dulls your senses to try to forget everything you've had to do.

1

u/thelonetext 4h ago

He is neither a alcoholic nor a drunkard. That healing factor and the fact that he's constantly under attack makes it quite hard to enjoy the buzz of boozing.

1

u/More_Act_7538 4h ago

I didn’t think mutants can get drunk. Considering, alcohol is a poison and Logan’s healing repairs intoxication…

1

u/RuneKnight3 3h ago

Alcoholic for Wolverine with his powers is a relative term, but its become worse since he isn't allowed to visually smoke anymore because Joey Q said so.

1

u/ninjew36 3h ago

Nightcrawler is naked here

1

u/kastles1 2h ago

He can’t get drunk for the most part. So what may look like a lot is just a buzz if that for him.

1

u/bootyholeboogalu 2h ago

Yeah I know you're wrong now about that like completely wrong about it but go ahead

1

u/Rayson0o 1h ago

Why is nightcrawler nekid

1

u/Funny_Or_Cry 58m ago

Cause his mum mystique is usually nekkid. Prolly runs in the family

1

u/Funny_Or_Cry 55m ago

This started from this one level in MARWOLF where he wakes up in some other dudes bed with like 100 empty corona bottles scattered about.

Im guessing he can drink himself to sleep easy enough but then his metabolism slows like anybody elses would, and he's gotta suffer a hangover for a few (minutes? certianly no more than 30) before everything rights itself

Rinse, repeat, no fear of liver damage. Thats actually not a bad deal TBH

1

u/theBJbanditO 41m ago

Lmao what is a "good" alcoholic?

1

u/Funny_Or_Cry 32m ago

Somebody you can get sloshed and play drinking games with , without worrying about getting a carrot up the butt...or shanked

2

u/theBJbanditO 29m ago

That's called "non-violent." I don't think you know what an alcoholic is or how many different types of alcoholics there are.

1

u/Funny_Or_Cry 25m ago

HAH i meant more in the context of "is the reason why the MFer always seems broke, is he spent the last 200 years trying to stay hammered, cause of the f*cuked sh*t he's had to do
