I really enjoyed the new Wolverine Game, but had my own criticisms and wishes like anyone else. This made me wonder what I'd actually want out of a Wolverine game if I had my way. So, I wrote a shit tonne of rough, unfiltered ideas down in my notes app out of boredom. If you're bored too, you're welcome to read through and say what you would want out of a Wolverine game.
Map type: open world, some linear and semi-linear sections
Traversal: parkour, running on all fours, customisable motorcycle
Combat style-
-mix of God of War abilities and Ghost of Tsushima stances with various combos?
-Choice between stealth or full frontal assault. In Japanese game, stance combining claws and katana with eventually getting the Muramasa blade.
-enhanced senses/reflexes to respond to enemies attacks, bit like Spidey sense from Insomniac games
-enhanced durability and passive healing factor, but must not take too much damage or will be incapacitated rather than die
-Limited use of firearms and other ranged weapons.
-Environmental combat and stealth opportunities.
-Berserker rage metre like Spartan rage in God of War.
-Claws or barehanded options, lethal or non-lethal barehanded options.
-dismemberment/decapitation and finishers
-intimidate/terrify enemies causing them to flee, but if an enemy escapes it increases notoriety
Other gameplay mechanics:
-enhanced senses mode similar to Witcher or Arkham batman for tracking and stealth.
-mercenary or bounty hunting missions
-notoriety system based on public use of mutant powers for elite enemies to hunt you. Gradually goes down when you leave an area, emphasise Wolverine's nomadic aspect?
-consumables like alcohol and tobacco for temporary buffs
-option to change the appearance of other characters with some of their iconic looks (i.e. Sabretooth, Hulk, Cyclops, etc.)
-random open world boss fights. Reoccurring encounters with Sabretooth, maybe Sabretooth shows up at max notoriety? Would be cool to have Sabretooth as a consistent character across all games, a bit like Joker from Arkham Batman
-destructible environment
-cage match side activities, bit like bare knuckle boxing from AC syndicate
-motorcycle races (not that into racing, but every open world with vehicles has it so gotta have it)
Training/challenges: testing programme at Weapon X, training at Alpha Flight, and Danger Room at X Mansion to practise, complete challenges, replay linear sections of game, and replay boss fights

Wolverine Tetralogy Ideas-
Wolverine: Weapon X
Setting: Canadian Wilderness
Canon costume(s): weapon X and Team X
Plot: The story begins with Wolverine as a test subject and agent of the Weapon X programme with no memory of his identity or life before then. Wolverine and his fellow agents go on covert operations culminating in a mission in a Soviet base and a confrontation with Omega Red. After this, Wolverine attempts to escape the programme as the other agents try to stop him. He attempts to escape with his love interest and teammate, Silver Fox, but is betrayed. Maverick, previously a close friend, is experimented on and compelled to kill Logan. Logan battles the likes of Maverick, Kane, and Deadpool until Wolverine confronts William Stryker who he only manages to maim before a final boss fight with Sabretooth.

Plot: After Wolverine escapes Weapon X, he wanders the wilderness until found by Heather and James Hudson. They take him in and become close friends, indoctrinating him into Alpha Flight, a superhuman team that works on behalf of Department H of the Canadian government. Wolverine gets his iconic tiger stripe costume as an operative of Department H. Wolverine becomes close with the team and feels he found his place. He is sent on missions with his team as well as solo operations. This will lead to a mission to fight the Hulk where Logan discovers the Hulk's true nature and the real problem of the Wendigo. The dishonesty from Department H about this mission makes Wolverine question their motives. Realising that he was again a weapon and pawn of a shady government organisation, Logan becomes disillusioned with the team and decides to quit. However, Logan quickly realises he is not free to leave and Department H is no different from Weapon X. Despite their warm feelings for Logan, Alpha Flight spearheaded by James Hudson/Vindicator hunt Wolverine to return him to the team. Wolverine reluctantly dodges and battles his friends to free himself from Department H control facing off with Sasquatch, the twins, Aurora and North Star, Shaman, and Snowbird until a final boss fight with Vindicator. Unwilling to kill his friends and despite his defeat of Vindicator, the rest of the team intervene and close in on Wolverine until the X Men come to his aid and extract him back to the X Mansion.
(Plot needs some tweaking due to similarities with the first game)

Wolverine: Revelations (Prequel)
Setting: X Mansion, Canada, WWII Europe, etc.
Canon Costume: Astonishing suit, others
Story: starts with Wolverine's first days with the X men, at first he is distrustful of Xavier and the group due to his previous experience with Weapon X and Alpha Flight, but Xavier promises they are a safe home for mutants like him and he can help Logan recover his lost memories. The story is structured a bit like Assassin's Creed where Xavier helps Logan return to his past through his memories with some missions and story in-between these segments and the X Mansion. The story spans multiple years from Wolverine's rocky start with the other mutants to becoming an important teammate and family as well as a mentor to younger mutants as he gradually recovers his memories. There will be present day missions against classic X men villains like Mr Sinister, Juggernaut, and Magneto in between Wolverine's memories.
The first memory explored will be Wolverine's origins in Canada, when he mutated (leading to Logan realising he had bone claws under the Adamantium), the death of his father and his escape with his childhood friend and first love, Rose, he is then pursued by his half-brother, Dog Logan. Wolverine remembers his true name, actual age, his family, and how he got the name Logan.
Back in the present, the X men are shocked by his true age and throw him a 200th* birthday party which Logan dismisses, but secretly appreciates the gesture and becomes a bit closer with the team.
We return to Logan's memories and his life on the run with Rose, but they are pursued by Dog Logan. In a final confrontation Wolverine fights Dog but accidentally kills Rose as she attempts to stop him.
Another return to the present, an X man mission saving mutant like Jubilee or Kitty from sentinels, giving Logan a surrogate daughter. Wolverine is starting to evolve into a reluctant hero and embraces Xavier's dream of mutant freedom. Return to memories. Would be cool to have a run in with Juggernaut and have Logan and Xavier bond over their problematic half-brothers, this would instill trust between them.
Wolverine is devastated by Rose's death and runs away to a circus where he encounters Saul and Clara Creed. He becomes close with Clara until Saul betrays him to Nathanial Essex (Mr Sinister) who wants to experiment on him. Logan discovering this, kills Saul, causing Clara to leave him and her telling their abusive brother, Victor (Sabretooth), Saul is dead. This starts the grudge between them that Logan was unaware of prior to their rivalry on Team X. Some more bullshit happens with Sabretooth attempting to kidnap Wolverine for Mr Sinister.
In present day, Wolverine goes on a mission to fight Mr Sinister and his marauders with the X Men. Mr Sinister takes note of Cyclops and Jean Grey (reference for future games). Having recovered his memory of Essex, Wolverine gives into his rage and kills Essex (although he doesn't really die) creating friction with the team especially Cyclops due to his use of lethal force. Tension builds between Cyclops and Wolverine because of Wolverine's distrust of authority, and Cyclops reminds him of Vindicator from Alpha Flight. Cyclops questions Wolverine's ability to work with the team.
Returning to his memories, Logan begins his relationship with Silver Fox and her tribe, culminating in Sabretooth murdering her. This confuses Logan as she was alive in the Weapon X programme and they had no memory of each other. Wolverine has a final boss fight of this chapter with Sabretooth. He meets Mystique at some point.
Wolverine returns to the present day and does some more missions and character building shit.
In the next memory chapter, Wolverine fast forwards in time to his service in WWII. He goes on missions with Captain America, meets Bucky, Nick Fury and the Howling Commandos. Liberates a young Magneto from a concentration camp. Has a final boss battle with Bloodscream? (Maybe save that for Madripoor)
In a present day mission, Wolverine and the team fight Magneto. Magneto throws Logan around until he recognises him as the man who rescued him as a child. In disbelief, the battle ends and Magneto leaves in peace. Wolverine recognises the good he's done in the past as a liberator and feels he can be a hero again for fellow mutants.
Maybe that will be the end? Or maybe another chapter of Logan's life? Maybe possible to touch on the false memories implanted by Weapon X.
Either way Logan's final memory witnesses him back in Canada, drunk and stumbling out of a bar until he is tranquilised and kidnapped by the Weapon X agents. This brings the story back to the first game.
Through his time with Xavier and the X Men, Wolverine starts to heal from his past as he recovers his memories and becomes whole again. Rediscovering his own struggles as a mutant as well as his heroism in WWII. Finally feeling like more than just a weapon and a savage animal. Wolverine finally feels comfortable with his newfound family and his role as a hero for fellow mutants.
This kickstarts the X Men game series while giving Wolverine one last solo game in Japan.

Story:
Deathstrike, Silver Samurai, and Daken form the Red Right Hand to take their revenge against Wolverine. With Logan's memories recovered with the help of Xavier, he returns to Japan to make amends, only to face a rude awakening as the Red Right Hand move against him. Deathstrike vows revenge for the adamantium process being stolen from her father and used on Wolverine, Daken wants to punish Logan for the death of his mother, Itsu, and abandoning him. Silver Samurai wants to prove he's better than Logan and punish him for his relationship with his sister, Mariko. He also fights some other cunts like Ogun and Gorgon along the way.
