🎮 ROG Xbox Ally Discussion Good case for now?
I know the x20 just came out, but i need a case. The official ROG one is ugly... i prefer a tomtoc case or anything similiar.

So about 2 to 3 months ago my right trigger broke on my ally. It was right at the hinge and I bought another trigger from Asus to replace it. Now I'm back at the same issue. It broke right at the same place and I want to know if this is happening to anyone else. I only play games like life is strange and chill games like that.
I will most like just replace it the same as last time and hope it lasts unless anyone knows of a better replacement or a remedy to my situation.

Please help I have tried everything that I can think of to fix this problem with the face buttons stop working and hate to have to wait 2 weeks and sending it into asus if there is an easy solution to the problem that fixes this issue that I just don’t know about or haven’t tried. I can’t get the Xbox face button to work at all anymore, please advise on how to solve this issue, the d pad works and abxy. Why did the Xbox button stop working all of the sudden?

I want to buy my first handheld. I am confused about which one to buy. I have an Xbox only and I am leaning towards Xbox ally x but x20 just came out. New ally X is 1800AUD and marketplace had at 1400 almost new. X20 is 2400.
I know I can play Xbox games, steam and PlayStation games available on stream. Is Xbox ally X a good choice?
Should I buy brand new or second hand is good if it save some money.

The hype is over! It weirdly didn’t live up to my expectations! I already have a PC (4080 super), i wanted a handheld but weirdly when i got it, it didn’t feel right. I barely even use it to justify the price. Despite wanting one so badly, i can’t find myself excited to use it! I never had a XAX before
How many people are actually using their ROG ALLY X20 after buying? How much?? Cuz i haven’t used it much since buying it to justify almost $1600.

I got 5 to 6 more FPS on Warzone doing this.
Open the Windows Start Menu, search for Core Isolation, and open it.
Toggle Memory Integrity to Off.
Restart your device.
This also decreased stuttering significantly in BF6.

It does. Multiple people have posted a picture. Next day delivery on Amazon and cheaper than the Dbrand one.

Ive had a Z1E White Ally for a couple years and was looking at the xbox ally for the ergonomics. Glad I held out for the X20 though the OLED looks great and its significantly more comfortable compared to my old one. For the time being since I cant find a reasonable case for this thing I resorted to converting one of my hard cases which works amazingly well. Just a harborfrieght case for anyone curious, but I can bring it along in my work truck now without any concerns.

Playing Bluey's Happy Snaps on XAX.
This game runs pretty good on a handheld, stable 60fps on 17W.
There isn't any graphics settings for this game,. so everything is like console.
A very good game for kids.
Easy achievements.
It is available on gamepass.

Just received the device the other day and these are my first impressions compared to my Xbox Ally X.
Aesthetic and feel:
The ugly gold buttons and translucent shell don't bother me as much as I thought they would. The translucent plastic actually feels nicer than the plastic on the XAX and the grips on the back make it feel even better to hold. The XAX had fantastic ergonomics. The XAX20 is noticeably heavier though. The LED rings around the joysticks are also brighter. The joysticks themselves feel tighter than the XAX perhaps due to the new hall effect mechanism or maybe Asus just tuned them better. Either way the tension was already great on the XAX and this is just a little bit better. For people like myself who prefer a tighter more Xbox controller like feel than something like the MSI Claw. My only real complaint is that the power light is very noticeable through the translucent shell. Eventually my brain tunes it out, but being right above the screen that's an annoyance to the immersion.
The screen:
The larger OLED screen is definitely an improvement, but not as much as I thought it'd be. Perhaps that says alot about how great the IPS panel on the XAX already is. The extra screen real estate addresses pretty much the only complaint I had about the XAX. The screen also gets noticeably brighter.
Performance:
It's exactly the same as the XAX. It should be considering it's the same internals for the most part. Same Z2 AI Extreme chip, same RAM, etc. I've seen multiple videos online of people claiming it performs better than the XAX and that maybe the new cooling system plays a part. I personally haven't noticed any appreciable difference in performance between the two. The extra few watts from the new charging brick didn't matter either when charging or while gaming. The fans noticably push out more air and seem quieter.
Audio:
The speakers seem fuller and louder than the XAX. On my XAX I've used FX Sound to boost the overall volume, but those speakers were already very good. I haven't seen a need to adjust these.
Gimmicks and other stuff I haven't tested or don't have much of an opinion on:
I'm not a fan of the new D-Pad. The one on the XAX wasn't great either, but it was serviceable and inoffensive. This new rotating 4/8 way D-Pad is cumbersome to adjust where I almost feel like I am close to breaking it each time I pull it out and it's very loud, stiff, and clicks.
I haven't tested the micro sd ex slot yet as I don't really use microsd cards on my PC handhelds and express cards are ridiculously expensive right now.
The vibration motors in the hall effect triggers give some games a more tactile feel, but they really make no difference to me.
Value:
TLDR:
It's fairly priced for what it offers in a vacuum, but not when there are more powerful devices already on the market and in the same price range. Its own worst enemy is the XAX.
I purchased the XAX20 and pre-ordered the Predator Atlas 8 at the same time which should be arriving soon (Best Buy's Plus Membership and the 60 day return policy is so worth it for trying new tech) with the intention of selling or returning either or both of them if I didn't see any value over my existing XAX and Legion Go 2. Fun fact they were the exact same price. Albeit disappointingly the PA8 only comes with a meager 512 GB of storage in the US.
The XAX is probably the only Z2 Extreme handheld worth its money right now and that's largely due to not increasing cost across the wave of insane price increases across the board and the advent of the new G3 Extreme devices which offer substantially more performance.
The bottom line is if you don't have any PC handhelds or already have a XAX, the upgrade is subjective whether or not the refinements make a better device for you. If this had a more powerful chip then I could justify its existence more. The new slightly larger OLED screen is likely the main reason for the price increase and credit where its due Asus also probably tried to better justify it to consumers by at least providing a new colorway and those small refinements overall making it a more complete package. The problem is Asus is a PC manufacturer and a more powerful successor will likely be announced as soon as AMD inevitably unveils a competing chip to Intel's G3 Extreme probably within the next year.
What is your primary purpose?:
At the end of the day, the important question is what is your ultimate use case for owning a PC handheld? Do you just like the latest and greatest tech? Is it doubling as your main PC? Do you just want something to game on the go? Or are you like me and just want an all around companion device to your more powerful PC primarily dedicated to high end emulation?
I stated earlier that I own both a LG2 and XAX. I've also tried or previously owned/sold a OG LG, ROG Ally X, Steam Deck, and an MSI Claw 8ai+ as far as PC handhelds go. For my use case LG2 checks most of my boxes even with its few shortcomings, but I also purchased it at a decent price and would pay nowhere near what its currently being sold for new.

I’ve been experiencing weird multicolored pixels flickering on my new ROG Ally X20, mainly in game menus rather than during actual gameplay, particularly in FC 27 and Battlefield 6. Games run smoothly without crashes or FPS drops, and the issue persists even after a full ASUS Cloud Recovery and installing all the latest updates. I’m suspecting an AMD graphics driver or rendering issue rather than defective hardware, especially since I’ve encountered a few other software-related problems. Has anyone else experienced this or found a fix, or should I consider exchanging the unit?

I had the bottom line Ally. The white one. I liked it. But it was laggy. So I traded it in on a used XAX at BB. It was signed out, etc. I exchanged it
I was going to get another used XAX. Then I thought, might as well buy new
Now, I feel like I might as well get the X20. Especially with interest free financing at BB. I don’t want to under buy again
when. The. Hell can I find one? Now BB doesn’t even have shipping options, just says “unavailable”
Worth waiting???

Wasted $30 on the dbrand screen protector for the X20 and was incredibly disappointed. For double the amount as other screen protectors, you get only two protectors and the most barebones cleaning kit. The microfiber cloth they include leaves more dust than anything, rendering it useless. It didn't even come with dust stickers. Meanwhile, you can find $10 sets for similar devices online that give you the same items, but also come with handy things like alignment guides. They don't even label the film on the protector, instead relying on you to watch a YouTube video, likely to get some extra ad revenue instead of just labeling the peel like everyone else does. I shouldn't have to look up their channel just to know which peel comes off first. I'm not new to applying screen protectors, and I don't need much babying to do it properly, but what you get for $30 here is a complete scam.
As it turns out, Steam Deck OLED screen protectors fit perfectly (it's a one to one fit, due to the bevel below the screen), so I switched to a matte one for $15 and it looks leagues better and is way easier to apply.
Unless you need to alleged "better durability" because you like driving knives into your screen or dropping it from 30ft onto concrete, be smart and grab a Deck OLED protector instead for half the price. Dbrand isn't worth the doubled price and unfunny marketing.

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some help troubleshooting stability issues with my eGPU setup.
My setup:
Xbox ROG Ally X
AOOSTAR AG02
Asus RTX 5060 Ti 16GB
JSAUX HB0612 dock (mouse, keyboard & Controller)
Latest Nvidia Drivers (10/06/2026)
I’ve had several crashes while gaming. In both cases, the game froze and the Ally eventually blue-screened or restarted with error:
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x7E)
Failed module: nvlddmkm.sys
What I’ve noticed so far:
The crashes seem to be associated with having the JSAUX dock connected to the Ally’s second USB-C port with peripherals, even when it’s limited to just the controller, but when I supply power to the dock (from the OE Ally cable) everything works fine.
Question:
Does this seem normal to those of you that have a similar setup?

Is anybody else having an issue with their X20 killswitch case having sticky volume buttons? I noticed it immediately when I put the case on so I exchanged it for a different case at Best Buy but this new one is also having the same problems. Just curious if anybody else is having this issue as well.

I found a nice deal for a rog ally x for £420 but the reason the price is low is because theres two hairline cracks formed on the front of the case, where the microphone holes are on the rog ally x
The owner said it doesn’t affect performance but idk much about this stuff should I pull the trigger anyway?
But I’m not seeing any cracks on the case unless I’m just blind can anyone else see?

Got my X20 the other day and am loving it so far! I didn't pay much attention to the size difference to the original XAX so I realized when it arrived that the official case just doesn't fit the X20 and I had no way to protect it. Came across one on Amazon for a decent price and got it today and it's really nice. Holds the charging cord internally, is nicely structured and feels safe for the device. If anyone's interested in a good case for the X20, here's the link:

As the title suggests, has anybody received their pre-order from ASUS directly? It seems like most posts are BestBuy orders - whereas the few I have seen from ASUS are orders that are getting cancelled. So my question is, and as an ASUS preorder myself, has anybody successfully received their Xbox Ally X20 standalone pre-order?
