Who else was fascinated by the AT&T Infoquest museum in NYC back in the day when tech was fun and not terrifying?
THIS PLACE was a regular destination for my family back in the day. Anyone else lose their marbles here? I miss those days where tech was a delightful, intriguing wonder, not a potentially world-ending destroyer of every discipline we hold dear, as is the case with AI. Josh Johnson had a great speech about that shift from adoring tech breakthroughs to loathing them. Anyway, if you went here, what was your fondest memory? I loved that your name would drift around on the computer screens if you punched it into a card, the Alice in Wonderland computer game, and the robot, of course. “These are the days of miracles and wonder and don’t cry, baby, don’t cry…” - Paul Simon

We get old, but sometimes not older.
Sometimes you gotta roughhouse with a buddy you met back when you were like 30.

Discussion Those of us having to start over professionally in our 40s - what career path are we pursuing?
Laid off. A year and 500 applications later and still no work. I'm beginning to accept that the career I once took for granted is no longer a viable path forward. I need to start over doing something else, but I have no idea what to do.
Anyone else in the same boat? What's the plan?

Jamming to the Sneaker Pimps tonight, still great 30 years later.
I had a great friend in high school that used to buy cd's just based on unusual band names. One time, we went to the mall, and he bought Sneaker Pimps - Becoming X. We both really were taken by the album, and it was something we played whenever we drove around and smoked weed.
I found out that he's had some recent health issues, and from what I understand, he's in a coma and the outlook isn't very postive. Playing this one tonight and thinking about some of our youthful adventures.

It just dawned on me...
It just dawned on me why the carriage return key on PC keyboards is dog legged. The carriage return lever on mechanical typewriters was dog legged so it was easier to blindly push so the shape just got carried over into the key on electric typewriters and word processors, then to computers.

Weird Al Syndrome
Does anyone else have trouble listening to songs from our generation without hearing or even singing the Weird Al version? I cannot listen to Another One Bites The Dust without singing - loudly - Another One Rides The Bus. Or I Love Rocky Road. Might as well face it I'm addicted to spuds.

The people of New York City must have not cared seeing an odd looking van with turtles driving it
But hey, it’s New York City. Weird things happen everyday.

Let's pretend it's 1985! You're going to the theaters, and both of these films are now showing. Which cinema would you like to watch?
No this is not a double feature, and yes you could only pick 1 just for fun!
Cinema 1 - Day of the Dead
Cinema 2 - The Return of the Living Dead

Discussion The young woman working the drive-thru window at my local Taco Bell said “bet” so many times while taking my order…
I started to think that they were running a casino out of the kitchen.
One more thing to add to the “I don’t understand the modern age” list, I suppose.

How are you feeling about our tech evolution?
Every day I’m thankful I grew up in a pre-internet world, and that I’ve been able to witness the tech evolution that got us to where we are today.
Maybe it’s AI being pushed absolutely everywhere, the surveillance cameras popping up on my neighborhood streets, social media being a cesspool for our society, or everything getting wildly expensive, but I’ve found myself starting to feel disgusted by the tech world. I used to be the guy who needed the new smart phone, needed the new gaming console, needed the new fancy gadget. Now I’m looking up how to transition to dumb phones and old school mp3 players. I don’t want any part of this anymore.
Are you still all in and excited by new tech, or do you feel completely burnt out and over it like I do?

Wine
I remember going for dinner with friends, and often people would open a bottle of of wine and “let it breathe”. Looking back I think they were just trying to look like they knew something other people didn’t, but it’s absolute nonsense.
