I used to work as a baker for an ice cream company (local and small-ish at the time). It was a Sunday and the only other baker scheduled had called out...again. So it fell to me to make 16 40-quart pots of caramel, multiple enormous batches of brownies, and some marshmallow fluff on my own.
I was having to work pretty quickly to compensate for the lack of help, and after I finished putting some of the caramel into hotel pans I hastily put them on a speed rack and started to wheel then towards the back to cool. I was in such a hurry that I didn't realize I had loaded the speed rack a bit unevenly. The rack started to tip towards me and my efforts to keep it upright were all for naught. A hotel pan at face level starting sliding towards me and I just BAILED. No job is worth getting 2nd degree burns on your face.
In my escape attempt, a wave of caramel cascaded down one of my legs and into both of my kitchen clogs. I screamed because goddamn, that hurt. A bunch of people came running, my supervisor slipped and fell into the caramel river...It was a hot mess. Literally.
The insanely hot warehouse worker (/EMT in training/part time model) scooped me up, took me to a safe area, and inspected me while telling awful jokes to get me to stop crying.
I miraculously did not get fired and ended up hooking up with that coworker a few times.
Ah. Yea hard agree on the second degree burns. I’d go as far as to say third degree burns don’t suck as much as somebody who’s gotten both and still has scars from both. My second degree ones came from a baking pan and brownie tray respectively. And my third degree burn is from a hot glue gun. Took my skin RIGHT off, that incident did.
I have a scar across my belly from baking last year, I dropped the tray into my stomach while wearing a crop top. Parts of it were borderline third degree and parts were second and first, and fuck they hurt so much more. The deepest parts had fried my nerves so they didn’t hurt at all
Would you say your scar looks neat? I’m pretty into my two lines on my left arm. My finger scar however isn’t quite as good looking because it’s so small. I’d imagine a larger area would give a better look to a third degree burn.

I once spilled ~15 gallons of hot caramel at a job. This AI slop really took me back. Not that it was accurate in any way
