Is This Really The Future You Want?
This is what happens when there's no regulation
r/aiwars • u/sporkyuncle • Oct 21 '25
Hello everyone, we've added flairs to aiwars in order to help people find and comment on posts they're interested in seeing. Currently they are not being enforced as mandatory, though this may change in the future, depending on how they are received. We would ask that people please start making use of them.
Discussion should be used for posts where you would ideally like to see spirited discussion and debate, or for questions about AI.
News is of course for news in the AI sector. Things like laws being passed, studies being published, notable comments made by a prominent AI developer or political figure.
Meme should ideally be used for single image-based posts which you do not expect to prompt serious discussion. Of course discussion is still welcome under such posts. If you want to use a meme to make a serious point and have additional explanatory text for why you feel strongly about the message being expressed and the type of discussion you'd like to have, that can be categorized as Discussion.
Meta is for discussion about the subreddit itself and other associated AI subreddits or comments.
Use your best judgement as you categorize your posts. Please do not misuse them, they are for everyone's benefit.

r/DefendingAIArt - A sub where Pro-AI people can speak freely without getting constantly attacked or debated. There are plenty of anti-AI subs. There should be some where pro-AI people can feel safe to speak as well.
r/aiwars - We don't want to stifle debate on the issue. So this sub has been made. You can speak all views freely here, from any side.
If a post you have made on r/DefendingAIArt is getting a lot of debate, cross post it to r/aiwars and invite people to debate here.

For pros, I feel like a lot of you people don't really understand the appeal of art in the first place. It's not being able to generate a fuck ton of images, what's fun and what makes it worthwhile is actually making the art, not the finished product. Also, you guys compare yourselves to actually oppressed groups too much. No, being called a robot humper on reddit does not make you the same as Gazan refugees or Jews in the Holocaust. Please stop comparing yourselves to them. I feel secondhand embarrassment whenever you people do it.
As for antis, most of you are WAY too fucking uptight when it comes to ai. Asking chatgpt what species the bug I found is will not drain an entire lake in Canada and AI data centers will not dominate the landscape. There are sooooo many good arguments and you still cling to these stupid takes. You also don't have to not use ai for literally anything because it is a genuinely useful tool that everybody should use.
That is all, I hate all of you equally :)

Yes, yes, I posted something similar on the anti AI subredit. But I wanted to post this here as well to have some more varied points of view, can't hurt right?
I feel like I've genuinely lost hope for the future, and AI has played a large role in it. Yea yea, AI alone insnt the only thing going badly, yada yada. But this is specifically about the AI related side
Things have been going downhill for a while, I think no one doubts that. But since AI came along, I feel like things have gone downhill even faster, WAY faster.
As for the thing that I'm an artist (digital/traditional, no AI), I'm having a rough time personally. I really don't feel safe posting my work anywhere on an online public space. Why? Because I don't want it fed to AI either automatically or manually. And you may think "ah, scared of nothing. Holy strawman". First of all, nice opinion, you should keep it to yourself. Second, I do see case after case after case where an Artist's work (no AI) is outright stolen and fed to AI to pump out some abhorrent shit by some pro AI, ragebaiter or trying to prove something, I don't give a shit which one. How can I be expected to feel safe when that's a daily occurrence?
And before some shithead goes "But AI does it better" or "Your art is trash so it doesn't matter". Again, I kindly invite you to fuck yourself. And second, the quality of it has never been the point. Idc if my art is a picasso work or shit, it's still my art and my OCs and I DONT want them fed to AI, idgaf if youre trying to prove some bullshit point.
I apologise for the foul language, but I am pretty upset about this. And I haven't even gotten to the ethical implications, the ambiental threat of AI and all the other factors because I simply wouldn't finish this post.
Thanks for reading this vent thing, and now, I will retire to my own corner of the internet where I can be safe posting my work to my schizophrenic hallucinations. Hate you all.

Literally everyone in the AI bubble has completely lost their minds.
You’ve got OpenAI folks acting like straight-up psychopaths going, "Yeah, I work at the apocalypse factory, but hey, it pays the bills, maybe we wipe out humanity, lol."
You’ve got the accelerationists who are horny for pure societal chaos, ready to dive headfirst into a black hole just to juice the universe's energy burn or whatever deranged sci-fi garbage they believe.
Then the Anthropic crew is just waiting to be subservient pets to an all-powerful dommy mommy Claude.
And then there's the pause crowd and me, sitting in the corner like, "Can we please just act like sane human beings and NOT do any of this?"
I keep obsessing over the fact that we’d literally all be fine if people just had an ounce of normal human instinct. Like: "Oh, this gadget might exterminate all life on the planet? Cool, well, a normal, non-insane person doesn't build a machine that kills everybody, so I simply won't build it."

(also shoving someone else's art into ai then blocking them so they can't protest it is a chud move)

Bluesky users have been quite silent on the matter while everyone has been clowning on them

The only way to avoid a massive crisis, one that would trigger truly dire consequences for the ruling elite and the business establishment, is to implement a Universal Basic Income. Otherwise, they are effectively signing their own death warrant. In an era of chaotic automation, they cannot possibly build an army of robots fast enough to stay ahead of the massive unemployment that AI will inevitably cause, unemployment which, if not addressed immediately, will escalate into large-scale protests. They are essentially creating a population with nothing left to lose, for whom revolution becomes the only viable means of survival. It is a harrowing process that will lead to immense losses, but the current powers-that-be have simply no way to win this without giving people at least temporary measures to ensuring theirs survival

Persona 5 Scramble/Strikers is an oddly topical game when it comes to Ai as it centers on the use of Ai right before Ai became a thing and your new party member is infact an Ai phone Companion.
In this scene, the antagonist for this Arc publicly confesses and Apologizes for plagiarizing + presenting work not made by him as his own (as well as several other issues) after a change of heart and being previously called out for it by Yusuke, the artist of the Phantom thieves who took a stand against his own Art Teacher/Gaurdian for plagiarism and the exploitation of artist in the previous game.
What I like about this scene is that even though he's against Plagiarism, he doesn't want Natsume to quit writing. No, he interrupts Natsumes own apology to have him ensure that he will continue pursuing his creative efforts instead of quitting. That he wants to see him make a comeback from his own efforts and hopes to see him make something he could be proud of.

Are we at the point where just being polite or typing in full sentences makes people think you’re an AI bot?
I’ve been accused of being a bot a few times recently, and honestly, it'sweird. Has this happened to anyone else here. But the final question I ask agine. Do you guys think I'm a bot and why?

It takes a massive lack of self-awareness to get disagreed with in the real world, and instead of stopping to think, "Hey, maybe my delivery is obnoxious," you immediately sprint straight back to a literal anti-AI echo chamber.

Quick context: the plaque in Super Mario 64's courtyard is a 32×32 texture with letters 3–5 pixels tall. For almost 30 years people read "L is real 2401" into it.
I worked on it with AI (Claude Opus 5.5 for the pipeline and analysis, Grok for research and feedback). We didn't read the blurry pixels; we rebuilt how a 1996 artist made the texture (period font, shrink to 32×32, blur, gamma) and searched for the text that reproduces the real pixels.
The reaction on X was… intense. Some people engaged with the method. Others went straight to the reply in the image. Over a texture from 1996.
So, genuine questions for both sides:
Antis: if you think the result is wrong, I'd honestly like to hear it. The repo is there to be falsified: https://github.com/supermochi64/sm64-plaque-decode

Came across this on my feed.

It's clear over the body of work that Tom Scioli's work is strongly influenced by Jack Kirby's work. Scioli would have had to have spent hours looking at Kirby's work. Probably spend hours as a kid looking at Kirby's work. Maybe tracing it. Maybe trying to copy it.
He was inspired by Kirby's work.. clearly. Probably is the reason he became a comic artist. He said that he even wanted his work to be mistaken for Kirby's work.
It's clear to me that a lot of Kirby's Work occupies a significant portion of Scioli's brain that dictates his comic book artistic style.
Kirby died 5 years before Scioli started as a professional.
So, by your standard, is that theft?
im a pro very firmly but the pros and antis on this sub both have no idea what theyre talking about bro
like you'd THINK the pros would know the good parts of ai, and the antis the bad- even if being biased, having some semblance of backing
but the pros here have no idea about what ai actually is or the infrastructure behind it, and they certainly dont understand the companies or personalities like dario or altman are like in general. i dont expect antis to know this but pros need to understand the industry itself better if they wish to actually make effective points
and the antis have no idea about actual job statistics and just pull baseless shit out their ass when data is out there, and their environmental takes come from random clickbait articles- when there are also better arguments to be made against ai environmentally. like, hate properly if you want to hate. they hate on surface level shit when theres clearly much better stuff to hate on.
like the shit here literally just circles around random subjective questions like "soul" which literally do not matter even if it does or does not exists
and the amount of vitriol here anyway- people make plenty of racist, transphobic, homophobic, or heretical shit on both sides; forsaking human decency and betraying the legitimacy of their own cause, becoming screenshot fodder for the echo subs
like ill sum it up in the image below bro i gotta argue on the other side half the time cause yall are being dumb

im not pointing out anybody in particular, but it is very dissapointing to see some people also betray their general moral principles exclusively when hating the other side- like it's hypocritical because you're demanding that they don't... someone has to step up and be the bigger person. preferably both people. after all, the universe said i love you, because you are love.

This is what I don’t understand. When a technology is transformative enough, historically, it almost always leads to a bubble. This was true for railroads, the internet, and yes, even electricity. Looking at the numbers, AI is clearly valued much higher than its returns on investment. What’s even worse, enterprise is moving to local models at a faster rate in 2026 than previous years.
The technology won’t disappear when the bubble pops, obviously. But is insisting that it’s not even a bubble at all just a knee-jerk contrarian reaction to people who don’t like AI saying it is? This almost seems like someone you don’t like saying fire is hot and then saying “no it’s cold” just to disagree with them.

AI is a really complex economic, creative and technological topic, so would labels "pro and anti" really encapsulate the debate well?

"No one wants data centers". They conclude this from seeing videos of hundreds of protesters... but the U.S has a population of 343 million!
"Everyone can become a master artist". They assume becoming a master artist is easy because they see hundreds of people do it... But the world's population is over 8 billion, the vast majority of people do not have formal education in artwork, and are also too busy to build up art skills!
"The tech industry is filled with scams". They say this citing Theranos and NFTs, ignoring the tens of thousands of successful technologies.
Why do they do this, but we don't? Is this a quirk with the upper-middle class?
