I'm a big ambient / drone / new age, etc fan and have been collecting records for a good while now. I think I have a good knowledge of releases across the genre, probably from the 00's onwards with spatterings through older decades.
What I'm looking for is records perhaps off the beaten track from the 90's backwards. I'd love to start building up some records from the 70's / 80's / 90's that I may have missed. I obviously know the big hitters like Eno / Harold Budd / Hassell, etc so I'm looking for artists from the around the world that may have released some ambient / drone / modern classical / ethnographic adjacent stuff that may have slipped under the radar I guess.
Here's a few things from my collection that I own that I really like along the lines that I'm after. It's usually either someone trying something different (e.g. Hillage / Hinze) or someone coincidentally releasing something droning and dense like Presencer.
Steve Hillage – Rainbow Dome Musick: https://www.discogs.com/release/169782-Steve-Hillage-Rainbow-Dome-Musick
Alain Presencer – The Singing Bowls Of Tibet: https://www.discogs.com/release/3187138-Alain-Presencer-The-Singing-Bowls-Of-Tibet
Chris Hinze / Raghunath Seth – India Chintan: https://www.discogs.com/release/449052-Chris-Hinze-Raghunath-Seth-India-Chintan
Bruton - Underworld: https://www.discogs.com/release/1939085-Various-Underworld
Any suggestions welcome! :-)

Liz Harris (aka Grouper) is releasing a compilation of film scores under her own name on November 27. This is the first release taken from Tanja Englebert’s We Exhale for fans of piano and and her characteristic tape loops.

Hey guys, I’m Jake, a small indie musician from the New England area. I’ve been playing guitar for 15 years, drums for 10, and enough bass and piano to start writing my own music. I’ve been making my own music in various ways since the start of covid. Someday, I dream of selling out a show at TD Garden.
I just released a song “Flying” on Bandcamp - it’s an ambient track that I’m quite proud of. I wrote this song about being far away from the beaches I grew up on. It doesn’t have lyrics or anything, but it’s got a lot of reverb and it sounds like standing on the ocean shore. Sonically, I was inspired to write it after listening to “Albatross” by Fleetwood Mac (a song worth checking out). I bet you could spot the similarities.
On the song, I used my electric guitar, a delay pedal, and a suspended cymbal.
If you enjoy the song, I’d love it if you supported me in any way on bandcamp. You can listen, comment, or buy the single (for a dollar) right on my bandcamp page. Flying is a part of an EP “Underscore” that will be released on October 30th.
Thank you for your time, and happy listening :)

I’m trying to find a song that was in the post-rock / ambient / slowcore / shoegaze sphere. Really slow and atmospheric. The video was on rotation on MTV2 UK around 2000–2003.
I distinctly remember the video featuring either a manatee or a hippopotamus filmed underwater in murky water, in slow motion. Nothing else. It had a greenish hue.
The word ‘Low’ rings a bell, and I’m aware of the Minnesotan band with that name, but I’ve looked through all of their videos on YouTube and can’t find any that match.
Any ideas?

It's exceedingly rare for me to post full albums, but I really had to do it here since there simply are no linkable separate tracks for most of this album.
It's mostly ambient, from chill-out to trip-hop with some space ambient, but it also some acid tracks that aren't ambient at all, it's really different things that I had preferred to post separately but here we are, it's not possible to do that with this album right now.
I was searching for an official link, but this seems to be one of those old rare records for which there is none & so this is the best I could find.

Summvs is the fifth collaboration album between Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto. The record was first released in 2011 and is the fifth and final installment of the ‘Virus Series’. The title Summvs refers to the Latin word “summa” (eng. sum) and “versus” (eng. towards), and serves as a metaphor for the work being oriented towards a collaborative result. The album features “Microon” compositions containing recordings of a 16th tone interval tuning piano—Piano Metamorfoseador Carrillo en Dieciseisavos de Tono. The album also features two covers of the track “By This River” originally composed by Brian Eno, Dieter Moebius, and Hans-Joachim Roedelius in 1977.

I've been experimenting with a setup that routes signals from plants into a Roland JU-06A, using ableton as the environment for the whole routing and production process.
The idea was to explore what happens when variations coming from a living organism become part of an ambient composition. The plant signals feed into the setup, while the JU-06A provides the synth textures, drones and evolving layers. I also incorporated 396 Hz as a tonal and conceptual reference for the piece.
What interested me most was the relationship between the parts I could control as a producer and the variations coming from the plants. Rather than trying to make the plants “play music” on their own, I wanted to build a system where their signals could influence the musical process. If you are intrested on listen what was the result I'll leave it here & on my profile!
I'm curious how other people here approach generative ambient, unconventional MIDI routing or biofeedback-inspired sound design.
Have any of you experimented with plants or other non-traditional control sources in your setups?

I’m somewhat new to ambient but these are my fave four dark ambient/drone so far

I'm curious to ask those that have a Hifi setup for listening to ambient soundscapes. What HiFi setup are you using?
I'm looking into a HiFi setup to compliment an experience I'm curating. I'm not sure how to classify the types of ambient music this is but the artists I gravitate towards most is Mount Shrine and Brian Eno.
I did go to high end stores and check out some sound. So far I've landed on KEF R3 Meta with KEF KC62 subwoofer.
I'd like some more recommendations and tips on creating deep meditative soundscapes and the right audio setup for a professional experience.

Hey, I'm sure of you are familiar with desert sand feels warm at night and his work. Please I've been listening to this album since February and I know this album is sampled. I would LOVE to know what song was sampled for the first track. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hey everyone, I'm a small artist with basically no audience, and I'm getting ready to release some music. I've been wondering about mastering.
Is it worth the time to learn how to do it myself? Or is it one of those things where you're better off just paying someone who knows what they're doing?
And if hiring is the way to go, how does that usually work? Do you just send them your mix and they send back a master? How much does it typically cost? What should I look out for? Do you usually get revisions?
I'd love to hear from people who've tried both. Did you start out doing it yourself and then switch to a pro? Or did you always hire someone? Any advice would be appreciated.

One of my favourite ambient/drone albums is Decreptitude by the buried marie project. I first found it on youtube about a month after it was released and i fell in love instantly. The quality of the composition, the harmony within tracks, even though each track is a wonder... all beautiful! Someone even said it was Basinski-esque, couldn't agree more.
Anyway, i tried finding it on yt to share with a friend.. nothing. No account, no works, just the Decreptitude album on bandcamp. Am i looking in the wrong places? Is my phone bugged out?
Any help or info is greatly appreciated, thanks guys :)

I really enjoy this style of ambient. It’s a mix of found recordings, synth, and orchestra. Any other similar artists/albums I should check out? Thanks in advance!
